Chapter 37 37

Chapter 37 37
Zara’s POV

“I’ll take care of you tonight,” Alpha Henry murmured close to my ear, his voice smooth, almost too smooth. I hated the fact that he was clingy and I don't understand why I had to be drunk when I was around this pervert.

“Don’t think about anything else, I just want you to relax and enjoy yourself.”

I managed a faint smile, though it didn’t quite reach my eyes. I needed to get my act together and leave this place but at that point, the world had already started tilting and by the time the third shot burned its way down my throat, everything inside me felt loose and untethered. The humiliation, the whispers, the weight of the night… all of it blurred at the edges.

When I slid off the barstool, my legs betrayed me instantly and the ground rushed up but strong arms caught me before I could fall and it was Henry again.

He held me tightly against him, one hand firm at my waist while the other moved slowly along my back in what should have been comforting strokes but something about it made my skin prickle and I didn’t like it but my body was too heavy and my thoughts was too scattered to protest.

“Easy,” he whispered, his breath brushing my ear. “I’ve got you.”

I barely managed to stay upright as he guided me, no he actually pulled me toward the exit and my feet dragged uselessly against the floor and most of my weight leaning into him.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, a thought surfaced, where’s Bella…?

But it slipped away just as quickly as it came.

Before I knew it, we reached the doors, and suddenly I wasn’t even walking anymore.

Henry lifted me effortlessly into his arms and my head lolled against his chest, my body slack, my senses drowning in a haze of alcohol and confusion.

I mumbled something incoherent, earning a low chuckle from him. “Come on,” he murmured. “Let’s get you somewhere more comfortable.”

A flicker of unease stirred inside me but I couldn’t grasp it and couldn’t hold onto it.

“Alpha!” a female voice cut through the fog.

It sounded familiar and urgent so I forced my eyes to open just slightly and the first thing I notice was the world spinning wildly around me.

“You shouldn’t be taking her anywhere,” the woman said sharply. “She’s clearly intoxicated.”

But Henry didn’t even slow down. “We’re both adults,” he replied coolly. “She’s coming with me.”

That didn’t feel right and something about it twisted uncomfortably in my chest but then another cold but absolute voice sounded from afar and I knew that voice so well.

“Put her down.”

The air shifted instantly and even in my dazed state, I felt it the sheer weight of that presence and even Henry froze.

“I warned you once,” the voice continued, quieter now, but far more dangerous. “Walk away before I make sure you never touch anyone again.”

My heart stumbled, why is he here again even through the haze, Darius still looks hot and handsome.

My body reacted before my mind could catch up and Henry grip tightened for a second with hesitation and calculation but it didn’t last because power like Darius’s wasn’t something you challenged not unless you wanted to be destroyed.

“I… apologize, Alpha,” Henry muttered, his tone suddenly stripped of all confidence and then, I was being pulled away by a strong yet familiar arms and when it wrapped around me I suddenly felt safe and without thinking, I clung to him, my fingers curling into his jacket as I pressed my face against his chest.

His scent surrounded me dark, intoxicating and dangerously comforting.

Darius said nothing because he didn’t need to, he just carried me out.

The cool night air hit my skin, sharp and grounding.

A car was already waiting, the door opened and moments later, I was inside, his presence following right behind me.

He didn’t let go not even then, his arm remained around me, holding me steady as the world continued to spin.

Heat bloomed under my skin and my senses were a mess because of too much alcohol, too much emotion… too much him.

My fingers moved before I could stop them, brushing up his chest, feeling the firm lines beneath his shirt.

God, everything about him felt wrong and forbidden and yet my body didn’t care. He looks so handsome and hot on suit.

“You shouldn’t....” his voice came out rough, strained, like he was fighting something but I wasn’t listening because I couldn’t.

Not when he was this close and when every part of me was hyper-aware of him.

“I want you…” I whispered, my voice soft, unsteady, barely recognizable as my own.

His body went still, completely still.

“And I know…” I added, my fingers curling around his tie as I slowly loosened it, “you want me too big daddy.”

I tucked his shirt from his trousers and felt his hard chest, he felt so hot under my palms. I still can't believe he's a single father and he has a daughter around my age already.

My thoughts went back to the first time we met at the club and I can't believe I'm going to have him finally. My hand touched his tight and the air in the car thickened as his eyes darkened, something raw and dangerous flickering within them.

For a second, just one second it felt like he might give in like everything holding him back was about to snap and then his phone rang and the sharp sound cut through the tension like a blade.

Whatever I thought I saw in his appearance completely disappeared, he was back to his alpha form and just like that, the phone call has disrupt my fantasy.

But I'm definitely going to have this man to myself and one thing I gain today was that he is really attracted to me.
