CHAPTER 41: CAUGHT UNEXPECTEDLY

CHAPTER 41: CAUGHT UNEXPECTEDLY

FRANCESCA'S POV

"In a fit of rage, I hurled the glass against the wall, the shattering sound a symphony of satisfaction to my ears. I stood there, frozen, staring at the shattered pieces as if mesmerized by the destruction. The calm that washed over me was short-lived, as my mind began to whirl with thoughts of confrontation and revelation.

"As I glared at my phone, a sudden thought slithered into my mind like a snake, and I couldn't help but hiss in delight. A wicked grin spread across my face as I contemplated the perfect plan. I would lure her into a trap, coaxing her into revealing the truth while my phone, discreetly recording, captured every incriminating word.

"Patience was key. I would wait for the perfect moment to strike, gathering evidence to confirm my suspicions. And once I had it all, Enzo would see her for what she truly was – a deceitful manipulator. I chuckled to myself, envisioning the look on his face when he finally realized he'd been duped.

"My laughter was low and menacing as I imagined her walking out of the mansion, her fairy tale ending in a most unpleasant way. 'Let's watch how long this little fairy tale lasts...' I paused, savoring the moment, before adding with venomous intent,

"I'll call Carlo and update him. This way, he'll know what's going on and can make his move."

Slowly, a desperate smile clinged to my lips and so I took out my phone from the drawer and called him.

Ring … Ring

And then he picks.

I didn't even let him speak before I started firing up my words.

“That bitch doesn't have Amnesia, Carlo. I have doubts about her and I'm trying to get proof but Enzo? He's just too soft and always has eyes around her like a sick puppy even when he has never done that for me.“

Even though I got no better response than 'hm' and grunts, I was sure he'd do something.

A wicked smile played at my lips when suddenly Enzo's voice caught through the midnight air and silence.

“And that's why you were going to inject her?”

I shifted uncomfortably as he walked in on me and even much closer that his hot breath fanned against my face like a deadly threat.

I  stayed still and frozen on the spot .

My knees threatened to buckle, they seemed like they needed to hit the ground as it's only homely comfort, I needed the coolness that the floor brought to my barefoot even though slowly, I was slipping away from the truth.

"As he folded his arms and waited, I wanted to defend myself, but I was too stunned to speak. I just stared at his back as he walked out, feeling frustrated and angry. My face scrunched up in a scowl, and I cursed under my breath."

“It was always about Diana, that slut. I grinned.
Fuck!

DIANA'S POV.

"I slipped into Ezo's study, searching for clues. I approached a heavy bookshelf and gave it a push. After a bit of effort, it finally moved, scraping against the floor with a loud noise that made me cringe slightly."

"I was shocked to discover a secret vault! But when I tried to open it, I realized it was locked. I kept entering passwords, but they were all wrong. I was getting anxious and impatient, knowing I had to get back before anyone noticed I was gone. Every tick of the clock made me more nervous."

"I tried my birthday as the password, but it didn't work. I also tried Enzo's birthday, but that didn't work either. Just when I was about to give up, I entered both our birthdays together, and the vault opened! I was excited, but then I felt a chill. Inside, I found confidential documents, photos, letters, and even guns. But I wasn't interested in any of that - I just wanted to find the truth or a clue to what was going on."

I sucked in cold yet long breath as I held one of the hard covered books from the shelf which seemed so different from the rest of the folders but once I wanted to search through desperately like a thief who needed to just find money and leave, the papers rustle, my chest heaved and breath became uneven in the sudden cold and tight study when a knife sliced through the air. — the thick and stern voice sliced through the air like a death sentence.

“What the hell are you doing here, Diana?“ his stern voice alone twisted in my ribs. My heart skipped a beat at recognition of the voice.

Enzo.

My fingers stiffened that they became too heavy to even twitch, the grip around the hard cover I held onto tightened and my heart raced and drummed loud enough for Enzo to even hear. It was all too sudden, too unexpected.

Or what was my expectation? Maybe that he wasn't back and got things to do outside the axis of this house but I wished wrong, he was here standing — just behind me with his thick voice cutting through every silence.
