Chapter 21 21
Sheila’s POV
That night, I didn't sleep. I was bothered by the contents of the file I had gone through at the office. It showed a stable flow of income until about a year ago but there were no traces of where the money was going to, not a proper trace of course so Cameron decided to stay up all night and help me figure it out.
We discovered the laundering and fished out the people behind it. It was an internal corruption and some of the executive members of the company were involved. I called Delilah before daybreak and asked her to get me a list of new qualified workers and to fire those who were found guilty.
I resumed to the office hours earlier than I should and began to interview those who Delilah sent my way, most were girls back from her college who had experience and she could vouch, some were men whom Cameron outsourced while the rest were just lucky to see the job post and smart enough to come for an interview. I knew Alan would argue this and everyone else was acting just as planned.
When the noise and allegations got louder and irritating, I spammed my hand on the table and ordered them to be quiet.
“Not to challenge your authority Miss Sheila but it is quite unreasonable to take these steps without consulting us first.” One of them intoned.
“What is your name?” I asked him calmly.
“Klein Witherspoon, Head of the sales department. “ he replied, confidently.
“Klein, for the past few months, sales has been going downhill and the finances have been deteriorating right under your command, correct me if I'm wrong but keeping the sales volume well above the margin is the reason you were hired and been paid, yet you deem it fit to school me on how to run my business?” I retorted and his high ego deflated instantly.
“Miss Sheila, you're a woman and this is a matter of business, you cannot be cranky or just fire people because you feel like it, my department has been facing a lot bec-”
I stopped him as I raised a hand. “You will have to explain yourself later to your alpha why some of the laundered and mishandled funds went to a private overseas bank account of yours. I speak with evidence and wanted to make this private, seeing that you've worked with the company for years but what do I know? I'm a woman, cranky and clueless.” I spat, sarcastically and Delilah showcased the evidence on the projector.
Beads of sweat broke on his forehead and he began to unbutton his suit, attempting to fan himself with his hands. The smile on Alan's face was now frozen and I chose that moment to strike.
“Klein, you have ten minutes to handover every property belonging to this company that is in your possession, don't even think of trying to leave the country, I'll find you. You'll receive a lawsuit before the end of today. Leave.” I commanded, authoritatively and dismissively.
“Miss Sheil-”
“Get out!” I growled, warningly.
He rose to his feet, head hung low in shame and walked out of the room. Everywhere was dead silent and no one dared to say a word. Good, it was the exact reaction I wanted to get from them. I sighed quietly and dusted off imaginary dirt from my dress.
“Where was I?” I asked, rhetorically.
My eyes swept over everyone and they swallowed whatever was left of their protests, I smirked, contentedly. “I stayed up all night to figure this out, I went through every single file and pipeline of money flow. If you have any worries about my decision, you're free to cross-check the files in front of you or reach out to my secretary to clear those doubts. I'm guessing we wouldn't have any contrary opinions now would we?” I raised my head, awaiting their response but none came.
“Good, let's proceed because I intend on making a lot of changes today.”
No one said a word afterwards, not unless I authorized them to or it was required. I exposed most of the dirty secrets the company harbored and pretty much reassigned the new head of departments and assigned supervisors as well, of course they had some disagreements to this new plan of mine and I was totally expecting it.
The meeting ended after three more hours of discussing how things will be henceforth and I returned to my office.
“You look exhausted but full of energy at the same time.” Delilah commented as she handed me a fruit bowl.
I chuckled softly. “Pass me that Adipose Inc file, I want to go through it one more time.”
She hesitated for a split second. “Alpha Cameron said to ensure you eat and not exert too much force on yourself at work.” She stated decisively. I glanced sharply at her and she gulped in nervously but stood her ground.
I gave up and began to shove the fruits in my mouth. “You don't understand Delilah, I have to weed out all the disturbances here so I can go back to my original place of work, there's so much work to be done here and little time to do so.”
“You really unbelievable, you changed everything here overnight, you're sure to earn yourself some enemies in record time.” Delilah commented.
I laughed gently, chewing slowly. “I've attempted to make friends and it almost cost me my life so making enemies for a change is a better choice.”
“You-”
“What the hell do you think you're doing?” Athena barked, barging into my office like an oncoming storm, interrupting Delilah.
Delilah frowned deeply and scowled at this rabid behavior but I motioned for her not to react.
“You fired all the people I recommended Alan to hire, they're members of our pack and now there's a problem as their families are prominent members of the pack and they're blowing up my phone calling me a betrayer and all sort of names!”
“They should've thought twice before stealing from me.” I retorted, lazily.
She guffawed. “Your company?”
I focused on my fruits and shoved a few slices of apple in my mouth, shaking my head affirmatively.
“My company, do you have a problem with that? I thought I've addressed the issue of you walking in here like you own it. Get out.” I muttered, with my mouthful.
I could feel her rage towards me. “Just because you're the CEO doesn't mean you can step all over me, you better watch your back because if I were you I wouldn't make an enemy like me for yourself.” She warned, a hint of threat in her voice.
I scoffed in derision. “Well, you're not me and thank you for your concerns, I'll fight my battles myself so get out of my office.” I spat, insulting her.
“You don’t know wha-”
I slapped my hand on the table, causing a loud bang and finally looked up to her, I rose, my figure towering over hers. “I said get out of my office! You have some nerve barging in here and spewing rubbish, you better watch your tongue because I can easily link these discrepancies to you and fire you. This company belongs to me now and unlike you, I intend to make real changes and progress, not betraying my best friend and screwing her mate so get the fvck out of my office before I have my men throw you out!” I thundered.
She stood at one point, deeply rooted in fear, unable to say a word. I exhaled sharply and sat down. “Throw her out Delilah.”
