Chapter 35
Claire's POV
Instead of going home, I waltzed into Connor's office after having the driver take the car downtown.
The secretary told me Connor was out of town on business.
I said I knew.
After the last experience, she didn't dare to say anything this time and let me in silently.
I remembered that last time I put a safe in the corner of the office, so important documents should be placed there. But what is the password?
I first tried Connor's own birthday, could not open.
Could it be Lydia's birthday? I was worried while looking forward to it.
Da ...... da ...... da ...... da ...... from the beginning of the heart jumping to later impatience, I screwed out Lydia's birthday.
Take a deep breath and pull hard!
......
The safe did not respond in the slightest.
I was anxious and pleased that Lydia was not particularly important in his mind.
Time was running out, I had to decipher the code, or the secretary would soon become suspicious.
Connor's parents' birthdays, the date of his death, the date the company was founded, I kept trying different passwords, none of which I could open.
I was getting anxious and my palms had started to sweat.
Could it be the day that Connor first sent Lydia to school? I was scared for myself with this answer.
But it was all I could do to get the file and try with shaking hands.
Ta-da! A crisp sound rang out and the safe opened.
For a moment, my hands went numb as several strong emotions of anger, jealousy, and hate mingled together and my head began to run out of oxygen.
I quickly took a few breaths, adjusted my breathing, calmed myself, and hurriedly scanned the files with the new phone that I had sent Wendy the photos of Lydia's bed, and put them back in.
I straightened my clothes and walked out of Connor's office as if nothing had happened.
When I got home, I didn't dare to connect to my home Wi-Fi, so I sent the scanned files to the person using data traffic, with the message "If you don't want everyone to be exposed, it's best to wait a while before acting on your plan."
Soon, the phone received a text message "wishing you and your loved one a long life".
If Connor found out about this, he would want to chop me up and flush me down the toilet, not even leaving me a body, not to mention getting along as lightly as he is now.
"Oh, Dad." I sneered and mocked to.
Then took the phone as the man, smashed it to pieces, and threw it down the toilet.
The only reason I did this thrilling thing was because I didn't want Connor to have time to go back to Washington and get him to break clean with Lydia.
The development of things now began to be under my control, after a few days, the detective sent a message to tell me that Connor has returned from Washington, and after returning to London, working overtime every day, even if he lives in his own apartment, will only go back for an hour, and immediately back to the company.
I knew that something was starting to go wrong with the Carter Group.
However, this is not enough, to make Lydia can not live a good life in Washington, I have to make one more trick to achieve the goal.
Maybe because of guilt, or maybe because of something else, after I came back, almost every half month Wendy will come over to see me.
Now I'm going to use this great opportunity to take advantage of Wendy's guilt and bring Lydia down once and for all. Even if that person can't help me get rid of Lydia, I can still make Lydia choose to die herself!
If nothing else, Wendy will probably visit me here in the next few days, and while Connor is busy with work at the company and won't be back, I can just set things up properly.
I contacted a familiar psychiatrist and asked for a vial of medication, and also contacted the nearest hospital and bribed the attending gastroenterologist there to stay at the hospital for the next two days and discuss the contents of my diagnosis.
As the proverb says, "Money is the key to everything", it only took me a day to do all these things.
Before I went to bed, I imagined Lydia crying and exclaimed, "It's good to be rich!"
The next day I woke up, not long after I had dressed myself, and Wendy arrived.
Luckily, I'm always prepared for what I plan to do, so I woke up this morning with an eye on not tidying myself up and trying to look haggard and disheveled enough.
Calculating the time it took for Wendy to walk into the living room, I picked up the bottle of pills on the table that resembled sleeping pills and swallowed them.
"What are you doing!" Wendy rushed straight over and took my hand.
I swallowed the pill so hard that I choked right out of my eyes.
This was just what I wanted.
I looked at Wendy through eyes blurred by tears, "Mom, please forget about me and get a life. I'm really tired."
"What the hell have you been eating!" Wendy shook me.
Then, pretending to want to vomit, I rushed to the toilet and let out a loud dry heaving sound.
I silently calculated the time in my mind, anticipating Wendy's discovery of the bottle of sleeping pills on the table, and walked out with a messy head of hair.
By this time, Wendy was dialing the emergency number of the hospital.
"You must tell your father and me if anything happens, we will always support you and always be your strong back." Wendy hugged me and cried after the phone call.
I hung helplessly on her: "I'm sorry mom, I'm really tired, I don't know why I can live my life like this."
"No, it's not your problem, it's Lydia's fault. it's also your father and I, who failed to raise her properly." Wendy's tone sounded very self-conscious.
The Green family has now become a joke to all the famous families in London, and Wendy is still helping her out.
Then let me add another fire this time and burn your relationship completely!
"No, don't blame her, you know, Connor hasn't been home for a long time ......" I said in a weak voice.
"I heard that something happened to Carter Group recently." Wendy tried to comfort me.
"I know, I don't blame him. But I hired a private investigator to look into it for me earlier, and he flies to Washington every once in a while." I cried straight out, a few of these tears I knew were genuine, but how many, even I couldn't tell myself now.
"Washington ......?!" Wendy's voice sounded shocked and angry.
I have long asked the private detective to check, she has received Lydia from Washington sent back packages, she knows Lydia has moved to Washington, just she looks at my current state, dare not say to me explicitly.
"I know, Lydia moved to Washington ......" I picked things up straight away.
"You ...... hey ...... I don't know how to make it up to you, my dear oldest daughter." Now Wendy was so helpless, so guilty.
Just then the nurses came in with the stretcher, interrupting the bonding drama that was giving me goose bumps all over my body.
I didn't say anything else and obediently laid down on the stretcher and was carried away by the medical staff.
Wendy followed with an anxious look on her face and kept talking to the paramedics about my condition.
I closed my eyes and pretended to have no strength, thinking silently in my mind.
I asked myself, "Don't I feel a little guilty seeing Wendy like this? Actually, there was a little bit of it.
But as soon as I thought that if it wasn't for her, my mother wouldn't have died, I wouldn't have been alone, and I wouldn't have gone through the treatment that no ordinary person could have gone through some time ago, the little bit of guilt I felt immediately disappeared without a trace.
Suddenly, the hand I placed at my side was warm, a pair of warm hands wrapped around my hand and kept rubbing it, trying to warm my cold hands, without opening my eyes, I knew it was Wendy.
"Baby don't worry, in a few days when you are better I will go to Washington to find Lydia, I will make sure she gets married as soon as possible to get this thing over with." Wendy kept her hands up and her mouth continued to talk.
For more than ten years, Wendy had not called me baby, and today this "baby" somehow made me want to cry. I almost couldn't help but open my eyes and tell Wendy that I was fine, that I was faking it all.
Claire has given so much to get this result, you must not be soft.
I warned myself silently in my heart.
Do you want to go back to a life where everything is shared by two people? Do you want Lydia to keep showing up in front of your eyes, making you jealous and annoying?
Do you really think Wendy is doing this to you because she loves you? No, it's all because she killed your mom, she owes you that, don't be so soft.
I asked myself over and over again in my heart, and over and over again I was determined not to let Wendy's momentary tenderness disrupt my plans.
I recalled in my mind how badly Wendy had treated me in the past, how jealous I had been of Lydia, how Connor had saved Lydia's life that day outside the hospital and how he had looked at Lydia, and hatred sprouted in me once again.
I closed my eyes and decided to pretend I didn't hear Wendy's words and give her no response because only then would her guilt continue to grow and my plan be more likely to succeed.
Victory is at hand, go Claire!
I was mentally cheering myself on while imagining Lydia being forced into marriage.
No, this was not enough, I had to continue to fantasize about Connor leaving Lydia, coming back to me, and doing sweet and romantic things with me like a normal couple.
Slowly, the hatred for Lydia and for the Green family began to really firm up in my heart.
Now, no one can persuade me to turn back, no one can stop me!
Now, let Lydia experience the torment of life in Washington by herself! I'm excited to think of Lydia living by herself in Washington and crying every day!
