Chapter 283 Elowen Is Here With Me
Caspian composed himself, his handsome face betraying no emotion. "Ms. Getty, don't be angry. I just want to remind you that for the sake of your family, you'd better cooperate."
Harriet crossed her arms and looked at him coldly. "Then tell me, which member of the family are you planning to target?"
"Your cousin Elowen is in the hands of the Romanov family. You didn't know?"
"Cousin?" Harriet laughed mockingly. "Mr. Romanov, with all your connections, couldn't you find out that Elowen and I don't get along?"
She and Elowen had broken ties long ago. Naturally, they hadn't been in contact, and she'd deleted all her contact information.
"Still, you're blood relatives." Caspian stood up. "Ms. Getty, you might want to think it over before making a decision. I'll take my leave now and wait for your response."
Harriet had no intention of giving it any thought.
Whether Elowen lived or died had nothing to do with her.
But she didn't expect Jasper and Xanthe to come to the hospital that afternoon.
In the three years since leaving Emberfall, she hadn't seen the couple, only sending money to Jasper's account on time each month.
Jasper and Xanthe came in looking extremely anxious.
"Uncle Jasper, Aunt Xanthe," Harriet greeted them, already having a suspicion but choosing not to voice it. "What happened?"
"Harriet, you have to help your sister!"
"Aunt Xanthe, what happened to Elowen?"
Jasper sighed deeply. "Three years ago, Elowen suddenly went abroad. A few months later, she told me she was marrying into a wealthy family."
"These past three years, she's come back once every Christmas, covered in luxury brands, clearly living well. But she never let Xanthe and me visit her."
"Last night she suddenly called, saying something happened and asking us to save her. Right after she finished speaking, the call ended. When we tried calling back, her phone was off."
"Xanthe and I have been worried sick all night. We're so far away, we don't even know how to report it to the police. We had no choice but to come find you!"
Harriet asked, "Do you know which country, which city she's in?"
"She said she's in Pinecrest."
Harriet frowned slightly.
The Romanov family also lived in Pinecrest. Could Elowen really be in the Romanov family's hands?
"Don't worry yet. I'll have Ryder look into it right away."
"What's there to investigate? Elowen's life is in danger. Instead of flying there immediately to find her, you're having someone slowly investigate?" Xanthe was extremely anxious. "Do you know that every minute of delay puts Elowen in more danger! If something happens to Elowen, can you take responsibility?"
"I really can't take responsibility." Harriet said coldly. "After all, I wasn't the one who sent her abroad. Everyone has their own fate. I can't manage that much. Aunt Xanthe, please leave."
Originally, she wanted Ryder to help confirm what Caspian said, but now it seemed unnecessary.
Xanthe was furious. "Harriet, we're your family. Elowen is your own cousin. How can you be so heartless!"
"Aunt Xanthe has a bad memory. Elowen and I cut ties long ago."
"Even so, are you really going to watch her die!"
"Like I said, everyone has their own fate."
Xanthe's face turned blue with anger, but she didn't dare lash out at Harriet. Instead, she turned and struck Jasper hard!
A slap landed on Jasper's face. All three of them froze.
Harriet's expression darkened. "If you have something to say, say it properly. Why are you hitting my uncle!"
Xanthe panicked too.
She often hit Jasper at home, but this was in front of Harriet after all. She should show some restraint.
Harriet wasn't easy to deal with, and with Tristan backing her, she wasn't someone to provoke.
But Xanthe had always been strong-willed and didn't want to show weakness now, so she said stiffly, "He's useless! Can't even protect his own daughter, only cares about protecting you, this ungrateful person. He deserves it!"
"Hopeless," Harriet said coldly. "Someone come."
A bodyguard quickly opened the door. "Mrs. Lancaster."
"Escort her out."
"Yes."
"Harriet, you dare throw me out!" Xanthe said angrily. "I'm your elder!"
"The Getty family raised you, and this is how you repay us!"
"Grandpa and Grandma raised me, and I'm also part of the Getty family. Being raised by the Getty family is perfectly reasonable." Harriet said coldly. "Repaying you is Elowen's obligation, not mine."
"Jasper!" Unable to argue with Harriet, Xanthe could only take it out on Jasper. "Look at this, this is your niece! The Getty family raised her for nothing!"
"Say less!" Jasper said. "Just because I don't argue with you doesn't mean Harriet has to go along with everything you say! She's already having someone investigate. What more do you want!"
"Tristan is so rich, of course he should arrange a private jet and people to send us abroad to find our daughter!" Xanthe said matter-of-factly. "I only have one daughter. If something happens to Elowen because Harriet delayed the search, I won't let her off!"
Jasper was still worried about Elowen after all and looked at Harriet with difficulty. "Harriet, Xanthe speaks harshly. I apologize on her behalf."
"I know Elowen disappointed you greatly and you don't want to deal with her affairs, but could you please help find her for my sake?"
Tears streamed down Jasper's face. "I only have one daughter in this life. No matter how disappointing she is, I don't want to see something happen to her."
"Uncle Jasper, I understand." Harriet couldn't bear it. "You two go back first. I'll notify you when there's news."
Jasper urged, "Harriet, you must hurry. Elowen has been out of contact for almost a day and night!"
"I know."
Xanthe wanted to say more but was dragged away by Jasper.
Harriet took out her phone and called Ryder.
Less than two hours later, Xanthe called to ask about progress.
"Elowen is abroad. It definitely takes time to investigate." Harriet explained.
"Tristan has so many connections, how could he not find out? I think you're just not trying hard enough!"
Harriet hung up directly and blocked her number.
There was no point discussing anything with such a person. No need to waste words.
Ryder did spend considerable effort and didn't come report to Harriet until evening.
"Mrs. Lancaster, I've checked. Elowen hasn't married abroad, but..."
Seeing him hesitate, Harriet said, "Just tell me. What about Elowen?"
"She's been a mistress to a married man."
Harriet's expression darkened. "Elowen is vain and has no bottom line when it comes to money. This is exactly something she'd do. Is the man a foreigner?"
"He's from Athenia, and he’s a member of the Romanov family.. He's Caspian's cousin."
Harriet suddenly understood. "No wonder Caspian said Elowen is in his hands. Elowen must be controlled by her lover."
"Very likely." Ryder said. "I've already had people from the Pinecrest branch continue investigating."
"That's the Romanov family's territory. You've done well to find out this much. Tell our people to be careful."
"Don't worry." Ryder nodded. "But since Caspian threatened you, Mr. Lancaster won't let the Romanov family off."
"I don't like Elowen, but I have to consider my uncle's feelings." Harriet sighed. "Tell Tristan not to act rashly for now. At least we need to ensure Elowen's safety first."
"I understand."
The hospital had limited equipment, so Harriet took time to return to Cloud Bay to make some snacks for Della.
Cookies lasted long, and Chase loved them too, so she made extra.
She also made low-sugar Swiss rolls to make the children happy.
The doorbell suddenly rang. Harriet went to answer it and saw Ulysses standing outside.
Harriet's face instantly turned cold. "What do you want?"
Ulysses's lazy, handsome face was full of smiles. "I heard you live here, so I came to visit."
"We're not that close yet."
"This is our second meeting. We can be close now."
"You're Quinlan's brother. I really don't want to be close to you."
"Don't say that. Actually, I'm helpless too." Ulysses spread his hands innocently. "I don't want to suddenly have a sister either, especially with that personality, but there's no choice. My family thinks blood is thicker than water and we must accept her."
"Your family matters, I don't want to know." Harriet was about to close the door when Ulysses outside stopped her.
Harriet frowned. "What do you want?"
Ulysses looked sincere. "I want to pursue you."
Harriet almost thought she was hearing things. "Am I dreaming, or are you dreaming?"
Ulysses leaned lazily against the doorframe. "I'm single, have no bad habits, good-looking and rich. Oh, and I'm still a virgin."
What?
This world had finally gone crazy.
Harriet smiled without warmth. "You want to pursue me. Does your sister know?"
"Does she have any say over me?" Ulysses said disdainfully. "She's afraid of dying. My mom already sent her abroad."
"She's actually started valuing her life?" Harriet laughed coldly. "I thought she was planning to keep courting death without looking back."
Ulysses smiled. "Since you hate her so much, why not be with me? I'll help you get rid of her."
"Isn't she your real sister?"
"I'm not close to her, and I have the strongest moral compass. When I first learned about what happened between you two, I disliked her!"
Harriet's mouth twitched. "If you had a moral compass, would you want to pursue a married woman?"
"I don't mind that you're married, and I don't mind that you have children."
"I mind." Harriet had no patience for his nonsense. "Don't say these things again. If my husband finds out, your family could easily go bankrupt."
Ulysses: "If the Clifford family goes bankrupt, can I have you?"
Idiot!
Harriet closed the door directly.
Ulysses touched his nose that was almost hit and muttered to himself, "Why so fierce?"
"And such a bad memory, forgot about me so quickly."
"But it's okay, I'll make you remember..."
When Harriet returned to the hospital with the cakes, she learned from Ryder that Quinlan had left the country overnight.
Harriet smiled. "I didn't expect he was telling the truth."
Tristan asked, "Who?"
"Nothing." Harriet composed herself. "Quinlan's reputation in the country is ruined. She really can't stay anymore."
"She knows I won't let her off." Tristan laughed coldly. "She worked by my side for so many years, she understands my way of doing things somewhat."
"She thinks that by fleeing abroad and having the Romanov family protect her, I can't do anything to her. Ridiculous."
Harriet was about to speak when her phone suddenly rang.
It was Caspian calling.
Harriet answered. "Speak."
"Ms. Getty, my grandfather didn't receive treatment last night. He'll be okay, right?"
"He won't die."
"That's good." Caspian laughed softly. "But Elowen might not be so lucky."
"Tell me, what will it take to release Elowen?"
"My grandfather doesn't like Emberfall much. He wants to return to Pinecrest. I'd like to invite Ms. Getty to come along. Cure my grandfather, wait for me to find the real culprit who poisoned him, and I'll naturally let you return home."
Harriet laughed mockingly. "Mr. Romanov has a nice plan. But unfortunately, that cousin, I don't care about her."
"You will care." Caspian said confidently. "No matter how much you dislike her, you can't withstand your uncle's pleading. After all, he's one of the few relatives you have left in this world."
"And if your uncle finds out that Elowen is imprisoned because of you, he probably won't be able to accept it, right?"
Harriet's eyes were cold. "Aren't you afraid your grandfather won't die from poison but will die at my hands?"
"Of course I know Ms. Getty has that ability." Caspian said calmly. "So we'll restrain each other. My grandfather's life is in your hands, and your sister is in mine."
Harriet hung up directly.
