Chapter 262 Your Spouse's Name Is Tristan
Nolan smiled. "Harriet and I already have a child together. Holding hands is the most normal thing in the world."
"Plus, we're going to register our marriage tomorrow. Though the wedding will probably be held back in Luminara City. If Mr. Lancaster is free then, you're welcome to attend."
Tristan froze for a moment, looking up at Harriet. "You're registering your marriage tomorrow?"
"Yes." Harriet smiled distantly. "I had someone do a reading. Tomorrow is a very good day."
Tristan let out a cold laugh. "Are you sure about that?"
"Why wouldn't I be sure?" Harriet asked back.
The mocking smile on Tristan's handsome face deepened. "Then I wish you both... a happy marriage."
"Thanks." Harriet looked away. "Nolan, Chase is out. Let's go home."
"Okay."
Tristan watched the black luxury car drive away, the hostility in his eyes impossible to suppress.
A bodyguard drove up. "Mr. Lancaster, heading home?"
Tristan got in the car, his face dark the entire ride.
Outside the villa, Quinlan and Wilder were still sitting by the entrance.
Earlier that morning, after Harriet came out, she hadn't closed the main gate.
But Quinlan didn't dare go in on her own. She suppressed the hatred in her chest and knelt down again, staying there all day.
She heard the sound of a car pulling into the yard behind her and quickly pulled Wilder up to kneel properly.
An elegant, upright figure soon appeared before them. Tristan was shrouded in a chilling coldness.
His thin lips parted, each word striking like a hammer. "Can't understand plain words, or don't know how to get lost?"
Tears welled up in Quinlan's eyes. She looked up at him, pitiful and helpless. "Tristan, whatever mistakes were made are all my fault. Wilder is innocent."
"I'm begging you not to reject him. As long as you accept him, I can disappear from your life forever."
"Fine." Tristan said without hesitation. "You can get lost now."
Quinlan was stunned.
She never expected Tristan to agree so readily. She was completely thrown off.
She was just said it casually!
She still wanted to become Mrs. Lancaster through Wilder. How could she possibly leave him!
But the words were already out, and she couldn't take them back.
Quinlan asked tentatively, "Tristan, you won't do anything to Wilder, will you?"
"I'm not that malicious." Tristan said coldly. "What, don't want to leave? Then both of you can get lost together."
"Don't..." Quinlan forced herself to say, "I'll go."
She hugged Wilder and kissed him over and over. "Wilder, you have to listen to your father. Don't make him angry."
Wilder played with his toys, ignoring her.
Quinlan let go of Wilder, got up and left.
Tristan looked down at Wilder on the ground. "Someone come here."
"Mr. Lancaster." A bodyguard quickly walked over.
"Send him to the Lancaster Manor."
"Mr. Lancaster, that's not a good idea," the bodyguard said awkwardly. "If Mrs. Lancaster finds out..."
Tristan's face darkened suddenly. "She can have a child with another man and is about to get married! Why can't I bring this child back to the Lancaster family?"
The bodyguard could only nod. "Yes."
Early the next morning, Harriet and Nolan went straight to the marriage registration office.
The whole way there, she silently prayed that Tristan wouldn't show up to cause trouble.
Fortunately, what she feared didn't happen.
She just didn't expect that registering a marriage required a premarital health check.
Last time Harriet married Tristan, she had given her documents to Haven, who handled everything.
She had no idea a health check was required before marriage registration.
The two went to the health check location, and by the time they finished and returned to the marriage registration office, it was lunch break. They could only come back in the afternoon.
Harriet was about to find a nearby restaurant for lunch when a black Bentley stopped in front of them.
"Mr. Johnson," the window rolled down, revealing Griffin's handsome, gentle face. "I'd like to have lunch with Harriet. Is that okay?"
"Of course." Nolan readily agreed. "Harriet, I'll go home and keep the kids company. You go enjoy your meal."
Harriet nodded. "I'll call you later."
"Okay."
Griffin drove, taking Harriet to a private restaurant.
Outside the glass-walled private room was a garden, the environment quiet and elegant, full of charm.
Griffin ordered food, and after the server left, Harriet spoke up. "Whatever you want to say, say it."
Griffin looked at her. "Harriet, you can't marry Nolan."
Harriet picked up her water glass and drank. "Why not?"
"You don't love him at all. Why waste your marriage on someone who's dying."
Harriet frowned. "What are you talking about?"
Griffin said calmly, "Nolan has his ways of hiding his condition, and I have my ways of finding out."
"He has an incurable disease, ALS, right?"
Harriet put down her glass. "Why are you investigating him?"
"Because I'm curious why you ended up with him." Griffin said seriously. "Harriet, I know you're very kind. You feel sorry for him, but that doesn't mean you have to marry him. Harriet, you deserve to be happy."
The air fell silent.
Until the server came in with food. "Sorry to interrupt."
Harriet picked up her knife and fork to eat. "Who told you I'm marrying him out of pity?"
"Nolan is a very good man. Even if his time is limited, I'm willing to stay with him through his final days."
The reason Nolan kept his illness secret was to prevent the news from leaking and destabilizing the Johnson Group.
But he had handled most of it in recent days, just been a bit busy lately because of Tristan's interference.
Since Griffin had found out, there was no need to hide it.
"So his illness is real." Griffin pressed on. "My guess was right. Della isn't his daughter, is she?"
"He is Della's father, her only father." Harriet said calmly.
"Harriet, wake up." Griffin's voice rose a bit. "Tristan isn't a good person, and Nolan isn't a good person to entrust yourself to either."
"I'm not afraid, so why are you?" Harriet smiled faintly. "Even if he really dies young, I can still take care of two children just fine."
Griffin was at a loss for words. "I know you have that ability. I just can't bear to see you get hurt."
"Harriet, if you don't love him, you shouldn't randomly make yourself a widow."
"If you really love him, when he dies, you'll be in terrible pain. Either outcome isn't what I want to see."
"Life is full of disappointments." Harriet served him a bowl of soup. "My mind is made up and won't change. Just eat."
After lunch, Harriet called Nolan, and they agreed to meet at the marriage registration office.
The staff member saw them and smiled. "You two really have a great relationship. Didn't make it this morning, but came back so early this afternoon."
"Thank you." Harriet thanked her politely.
The staff member took their documents to enter them in the computer, and soon her brow furrowed.
As if afraid she'd made a mistake, she deliberately put on her glasses to double-check, then spoke up. "Miss, are you sure you're single?"
Harriet frowned. "What do you mean?"
"Our system shows you're currently married. Your spouse's name is... Tristan."
