Chapter 249 Do We Know Each Other
Tristan's crisp, masculine scent mixed with a hint of tobacco made Harriet feel momentarily dazed.
"Mr. Lancaster, what are you doing?"
Harriet looked calmly at Tristan, who was so close to her, her face slightly cold. "Please show some respect and let go!"
Not only did Tristan not release her, but his other hand also grabbed her arm, his deep eyes seeming to see right through her heart."Ms. Getty, don't you have a sense of familiarity with me? Don't you want to know if we knew each other before?"
"I told you to let go!" Harriet forcefully pushed his hand away and stepped back two paces, creating distance between them.
Harriet's stunningly beautiful face flushed slightly with anger as she spoke in a distant, cold tone, "Mr. Lancaster, I don't have any sense of familiarity with you, and we couldn't possibly have known each other before."
"We're both married people. Please show some respect and don't do such rude things again."
"I'm sorry." Tristan closed his eyes, suppressing a trace of urgency in them.
When he opened them again, his eyes were calm and still. "Ms. Getty, I lost my composure just now." Tristan said apologetically, "To express my apology, I'm willing to sell you this property."
"Then thank you, Mr. Lancaster." Harriet said flatly, "Name your price. You can handle the rest with my assistant."
Tristan frowned, "You won't handle this property personally?"
"I can't leave home, so I can't stay to handle the handover. Goodbye."
When Harriet walked out of the apartment building, it had started raining heavily outside.
She held her bag over her head, and after leaving the residential complex, got into a car parked by the roadside.
The driver in the front seat asked, "Ms. Getty, should I take you home now?"
Over the past three years, Harriet had personally managed MediQuest Group in Luminara City. She had purchased an estate covering tens of thousands of square feet in the suburbs of Luminara City.
To keep Della's existence a secret, she had quietly purchased prenatal examination equipment and found a trusted obstetrician to conduct all checkups and deliver the baby at the estate, never going to a hospital for examinations.
Now that she had gone to Emberfall, the estate was being looked after by two servants.
After thinking for a few seconds, Harriet said, "Home is far from here. Just find a nearby hotel for the night."
"Yes."
The driver quickly started the engine and drove off, heading toward Luminara City's most upscale hotel.
Harriet took out her phone and made a video call to Niamh.
After quite a while, Niamh answered.
Della's crying immediately came through the video.
"What's wrong?" Harriet asked. "Why is Della crying like this?"
"Harriet, I'm sorry, I didn't take good care of Della. She has a fever."
"Have you done physical cooling?"
"Yes, but it's not working. The fever won't go down. Mr. Johnson and I are about to take her to the hospital."
Harriet couldn't help but worry.
Since birth, Della had always been personally cared for by her, and she rarely left her at night.
Della was delicate, especially when she wasn't feeling well, and particularly clingy to Harriet.
After thinking for a moment, Harriet instructed the driver, "Pull over. Get out, I'll drive back to Emberfall overnight."
"Ms. Getty, Luminara City is seven hours from Emberfall. Let me take you."
"No need. You have your own work, and I don't want to take up your time. I'll drive myself."
This driver was the assistant to the general manager of MediQuest Group's Luminara City branch, not a full-time driver.
"Then please be careful."
"Don't worry."
The black car stopped by the roadside. Harriet got into the driver's seat and drove toward Emberfall.
After getting on the highway, the rain got heavier and heavier.
Although worried about Della, Harriet still slowed down.
In this kind of rainy weather, traffic accidents were most likely to happen. She couldn't rush.
Because of the heavy rain, the car went slower and slower, and traffic gradually began to back up.
Taking advantage of the traffic jam, Harriet sent Niamh a WhatsApp message asking about Della's condition.
Niamh quickly replied, saying they had checked into the hospital and Della was on an IV drip.
Harriet plugged in her phone to charge and continued driving slowly in the traffic.
Suddenly, the vehicles ahead stopped abruptly, and Harriet immediately hit the brakes.
But the car behind clearly couldn't react in time and crashed right into her.
Fortunately, because of the rain, all the cars were moving very slowly, so the impact wasn't severe.
Harriet was curious about why there was suddenly an accident ahead and was about to get out with an umbrella to check when she suddenly saw a landslide on the mountain ahead!
The soil from the mountain was rapidly burying the vehicles in front, and was spreading toward her direction at the fastest speed!
At Luminara City's most upscale hotel, Tristan stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking Luminara City's night view through the rain.
His phone suddenly rang. It was a call from Ryder.
"Mr. Lancaster, you're at the hotel, right?"
"Yes, what's wrong?"
"Good, I was worried you might drive back to Emberfall overnight. There's been a landslide on the highway from Luminara City to Emberfall. They say more than a dozen cars are buried, and rescue operations are underway."
Tristan's brow furrowed. "Which section!"
"I didn't notice. What's wrong?"
"Check Harriet's phone location immediately!"
"Yes."
Within a few minutes, Ryder called back.
"Mr. Lancaster, we can't track Ms. Getty's phone location right now. It's either turned off or not receiving a signal."
"But half an hour ago, her phone's last location was in the section where the landslide occurred!"
Tristan's pupils suddenly contracted, and he turned and rushed out!
Because the accident site was on the highway, rescue vehicles couldn't arrive immediately, making the situation even more critical.
At the hotel entrance, Tristan was on the phone, learning that rescue personnel were walking the latter part of the way.
Tristan made a quick decision. "Prepare a helicopter. I need to go there!"
"Mr. Lancaster, there's no place for a helicopter to land on the highway, and I heard several areas are still experiencing ongoing landslides!"
"Rappel down to Harriet's location. Arrange it immediately! I must go!"
"Yes!"
Forty minutes later, Tristan successfully landed at the accident site, accompanied by two bodyguards.
Tristan took out his phone to confirm the location. The place where Harriet's phone last had a signal was ahead, and that location had long been buried by mudslides!
And no rescue personnel had arrived here yet!
Tristan climbed onto the mud pile. His phone showed he was getting closer and closer to Harriet's location.
When it completely matched the red dot on the location, he confirmed that Harriet's car was buried right under his feet.
"Harriet!" Tristan took the shovel from the bodyguard's hand and began digging the soil against time.
The two bodyguards immediately joined in.
While digging, Tristan said, "Looking at this height, the car is buried at least ten feet deep. The air inside is limited. We must hurry! Call for backup immediately!"
"Yes!"
The bodyguard immediately took out his phone to make a call.
The heavy rain continued.
Tristan had lived a privileged life since childhood and had never done such rough work. Blisters quickly formed on his hands.
"Mr. Lancaster, our people are almost here. You should rest!" a bodyguard stepped forward and said.
Tristan wrapped his blistered hands with cloth strips and continued holding the shovel. "Don't waste time, hurry up!"
"Yes!"
At the service area.
Harriet, who had been sleeping with her head on the table, was awakened by a slight noise.
Harriet opened her sleepy eyes and looked outside.
It was already light, and the rain had stopped.
Last night, seeing the situation was bad, she had decisively gotten out of the car and ran back while shouting to the car owners behind her to abandon their vehicles and escape.
Fortunately, the landslide didn't continue spreading in her direction.
The group walked for a long time before reaching the service area, where they rested.
Her phone was left in the car, and she didn't have time to get it. She borrowed someone else's phone to call Niamh to let her know she was safe, then went straight to sleep with her head on a public table.
Harriet went to the faucet to wash her face and suddenly heard someone talking nearby.
"Did that man who came by helicopter rescue the person in the car?"
