Chapter 224: It Turns Out to Be Him
Lark raised an eyebrow, "You want to get into high society, what's your plan?"
"I wanted Harriet to introduce me to someone, to marry a rich man, but she refused." A flash of hatred crossed Elowen's eyes. "In that case, I'll marry someone even richer than Tristan and make her die of anger!"
"Lark, I heard that the young masters of the Romanov family are all unmarried. If you can introduce me and I successfully marry into the Romanov family, our relationship will be stronger, and we can help each other more easily."
"You've got quite an appetite, setting your sights on the Romanov family." Lark chuckled. "But the Romanov family has very high standards, they might not be interested in you."
"I can find a way!" Elowen said firmly. "As long as I can marry into the Romanov family, I'm even willing to get plastic surgery."
"Looks like you've made up your mind." Lark nodded. "In that case, I'll do my best to help you. Like you said, once we become family, we can help each other better."
"Exactly!" Elowen said excitedly. "As long as I can marry into the Romanov family, I'll do whatever you say."
"You better keep your word."
"Of course!"
"Alright then, I'll help you." Lark said. "I'll arrange for someone to take you abroad and create opportunities for you to run into the Romanov family. The rest will be up to you."
"Thank you!"
"Go back and prepare well. I wish you success."
"Definitely!"
Lark watched Elowen's excited figure walk away, the smile in her eyes gradually fading, replaced by a cold look.
That idiot Elowen actually dared to threaten her?
She would make sure Elowen wouldn't even know how she died!
But now that Elowen knew the secret of her background, there was no guarantee someone else wouldn't find out.
She had to prevent it from happening!
The best solution was to have Harriet killed!
Only if Harriet died could she eliminate all future troubles!
But right now, Harriet was hiding like a turtle in Apex Global Group, and she had no way to get to her!
Lark thought it over, and suddenly her eyes lit up!
How could she have forgotten about this person!
Nolan was helping Chase with his homework when he received the call.
Seeing the unknown number, he answered, "Hello, who's this?"
"Mr. Johnson, this is Lark."
"Lark?" Nolan frowned. "What do you want?"
"I'm calling Mr. Johnson to ask you for a small favor."
Nolan laughed coldly. "I know you're now the Romanov family's daughter, but you're Harriet's enemy, which makes you my enemy too. I won't help you."
"Is that so?" Lark said calmly. "What if Harriet found out that Mr. Johnson once secretly helped me? I wonder what she would think."
Nolan patted Chase's head, signaling with his eyes for him to continue his homework, then got up and left the children's room. After returning to his study, he asked, "What are you talking about?"
"Over two years ago, the person who made that anonymous call telling me that Tristan's inability to have sex was fake—that was you, Mr. Johnson." Lark chuckled. "Back then I didn't have the resources to find out it was you, but now it's different. I'm the Romanov family's daughter, and checking something this small is a piece of cake."
"If Harriet knew that you once spied on her and secretly helped me ruin her relationship with Tristan, I wonder how she'd feel."
Nolan smiled calmly. "In the end, I didn't actually harm her. She wouldn't hate me for it."
"Really?" Lark said. "Harriet is a very principled person. Even if she doesn't hate you, she definitely won't talk to you anymore. Just look at Griffin."
"They grew up together, and although I don't know what happened between them, Harriet still cut him off without hesitation."
"Mr. Johnson hasn't let go of your feelings for Harriet, have you? Otherwise, you wouldn't have been looking for chances to see her these past two years."
"You say it's because Chase misses Harriet, but the person who really misses her is you."
Nolan took out a cigarette and lit it, saying irritably, "Lark, what exactly do you want?"
"I want you to help me see Harriet."
"Harriet is living at Apex Global Group now. Tristan is watching her closely. Even I can't see her, so how could I help you?"
"Just because we can't get in doesn't mean she can't come out." Lark smiled. "So I want to borrow Chase."
Nolan frowned. "You want to use Chase to threaten Harriet?"
"Yes, I want to work with you. I'm waiting for Dr. Smith to treat me. I'll pretend to kidnap Chase and have Harriet bring Dr. Smith to see me. I'll release Chase immediately and keep what you did to myself."
"Your goal isn't just Dr. Smith, is it?" Nolan analyzed. "You want Harriet to bring Dr. Smith so you can get Dr. Smith while killing Harriet at the same time, right?"
"It's really hard to hide things when dealing with smart people like Mr. Johnson." Lark admitted frankly. "Yes, that's exactly what I'm planning."
Nolan said, "Then you've got the wrong person. I won't let you have your way. If you want to tell Harriet about what I did, go ahead."
"Mr. Johnson is so devoted." Lark sneered. "Honestly, sometimes I really envy Harriet. Why do all you men care about her so deeply?"
"But Mr. Johnson, you're not the type to care only about the new and forget the old, are you?"
Nolan sensed trouble. "What do you mean?"
"Your wife and daughter's ashes are in my hands."
"Lark!" Nolan suddenly stood up and said angrily, "You dare touch their ashes!"
"Looks like Mr. Johnson isn't a heartless man after all." Lark said lazily. "Don't worry, I'm keeping their ashes safe. As long as Mr. Johnson agrees to my request, I'll return them intact after it's done."
"But if Mr. Johnson won't help," Lark's voice turned sinister, "I'll have to feed their ashes to the dogs."
Nolan closed his eyes and quickly calmed down. "Compared to the dead, the living are more precious. If I had to trade Harriet's life for my wife and daughter's ashes, I think my wife's spirit wouldn't agree either."
"She was an incredibly kind woman when she was alive. She couldn't even bear to step on an ant."
In the hotel, Lark couldn't help rolling her eyes. "Nolan, you really do favor Harriet. You don't even care if your wife and daughter's ashes are fed to dogs."
"Your wife's spirit must be furious with you!"
"Fine, you don't care about dead people's ashes, but what about the living?"
"Your in-laws are in my hands too. They're your wife's parents, Chase's grandparents!"
"Although they didn't come help you take care of Chase after losing their daughter because they were afraid of being reminded of her, you've stayed in touch all these years and have a good relationship. Are you really going to ignore your in-laws' lives for someone else's wife?"
A cold look flashed in Nolan's eyes. "Lark, you're asking for death!"
"Really? Can you kill me?" Lark showed no fear. "I'm the Romanov family's daughter now. I'm the one who bullies others—no one can touch me."
"Mr. Johnson, I'm giving you a chance. You better treasure it, or you'll be collecting your in-laws' bodies. And your wife and daughter—after their ashes are fed to dogs, their souls won't rest in peace. Aren't you afraid they'll visit you in your dreams every night?"
Nolan closed his eyes in pain. "Don't hurt my in-laws. I'll agree!"
Lark hung up the phone satisfied and ordered, "Make the arrangements. Harriet's time is coming soon!"
York, standing nearby, hesitated. "Ms. Brown, we're seriously short on people in Emberfall. Mr. Romanov sent word for you not to act rashly and to wait for your brother to come handle things for you."
"No!" Lark's heart tightened. "Before the Romanov family arrives, I must kill Harriet. I absolutely cannot let them see Harriet!"
"If we don't have enough people, pay to hire mercenaries. They're people who want money more than their lives. As long as the money is good enough, they'll work for me."
York was troubled. "But this is Tristan's territory. I'm worried that without your brother here to take charge, we'll be at a disadvantage."
"York, you understand better than I do that fortune favors the bold." Lark's eyes narrowed. "Don't forget, it was you who secretly switched the blood for the paternity test that proved I was the Romanov family's daughter. You were rewarded for finding the Romanov family's daughter—that's why the Romanov family accepted your daughter."
"If Harriet doesn't die and the Romanov family sees her, they might discover she's the real daughter. Once they investigate and find out the truth, we're both finished!"
"It's one thing if you go down, but with the Romanov family's way of doing things, they won't spare your family either. Even your daughter will be kicked out of the Romanov family. Think carefully about whether you want Harriet dead!"
York froze.
"York, I won't harm you." Lark ordered. "Do as I say. Once Harriet is dead, we can truly rest easy."
York nodded. "Yes, I'll do as you say!"
