Chapter 205 Are You Jealous?
Harriet could tell Tristan was angry, and she found it both annoying and amusing.
She closed her eyes and responded to his kiss.
Tristan slowed down, cupping her face as they tenderly nuzzled each other.
After a kiss, Tristan continued asking, "What happened after that?"
Harriet sighed, "Not long after, Ms. Wallace passed away from illness, and Griffin got into high school and left Dewdrop town. But he was a very proud person and refused Grandma's financial help."
"He was a good student with a full tuition waiver. Besides scholarships, he also worked as a tutor on weekends to earn money. He lived a tough life on his own, so Grandma felt especially sorry for him."
Tristan frowned slightly, "If you hadn't married me, would you and him... have been possible?"
They were childhood friends, and Cleo liked Griffin, too.If Harriet had actually gotten together with Griffin, it would have been perfectly natural.
Harriet held back a smile, "Are you jealous?"
"Just answer me."
Harriet blinked, "Since you're asking like this, of course, I'll say it wasn't possible."
Tristan tightened his arms, holding her firmly in his embrace, "So it actually was possible, right?"
"I didn't say that."
"But that's what you're thinking."
Harriet couldn't help but laugh. She lifted her head and kissed the corner of Tristan's lips, "There's no other possibility, only you."
If Tristan hadn't had that car accident back then, she wouldn't have been able to reach him.
Maybe she could only steal a glance at him when he went to visit Gemma.
When he married someone else and she grew older, perhaps she would go on blind dates and get married, living her own ordinary life.
And her secret crush would be buried forever.
Tristan held her tightly. Two lost souls finally drew close again in this moment.
The next morning, Harriet went to work at Timeless Medicine Clinic.
"Harriet." Ian knocked and came in, "I heard from Niamh that Griffin moved out of Lakeside Gardens? What happened?"
"Mr. Jones, I actually have something I want to ask you." Harriet went to close the door and asked, "Why did you hide from me the reason why Tristan didn't want children?"
"If I told you, wouldn't you be sad?" Ian said calmly, "And even if I told you and you two made up, then what?"
"Harriet, although I'm not from a wealthy family, I've been a family doctor for countless wealthy families. I see some things very clearly. Wealthy families care a lot about heirs."
"Don't look at Owen's reputation. Even without Tristan, he could pick someone excellent like Griffin from his illegitimate children to be the heir. So do you really think the Lancaster family wouldn't require you to have children?"
Harriet said seriously, "Grandma is a very open-minded person. I've already talked to her about this, and she doesn't care whether I can have children or not."
Ian was stunned, "It seems Haven really cares about you."
"Mr. Jones, in your eyes, am I really that fragile—so fragile that I can't even accept that I can't have children?" Harriet said sadly, "If you could have told me earlier, maybe it would have changed a lot of things."
"Harriet, I couldn't bear to see you sad and in pain either, but then I thought about it—Griffin was right. You and Mr. Lancaster are both adults who know how to handle your own marriage. As outsiders, we shouldn't interfere too much."
"Griffin, it's Griffin again..." Harriet closed her eyes in pain, "So you listened to Griffin and didn't tell me the truth."
"Griffin genuinely had your best interests at heart, while Mr. Lancaster had hurt you too much in the past. After weighing it, I followed Griffin's suggestion." Ian asked, "Harriet, you and Griffin had a fight because of this, right?"
"Yes, because from beginning to end, he was deceiving me and trying to drive a wedge between Tristan and me."
"How could this be?" Ian couldn't believe it, "Griffin doesn't seem like that kind of person."
"I used to think so, too." Harriet smiled bitterly, "Of course, at the root of it all, it's because Tristan and I didn't trust each other enough, which is why he could drive a wedge between us."
"Harriet, I'm sorry. I'm the one who hurt you." Ian felt very guilty.
Harriet shook her head gently, "Your intentions were good. I understand that."
"It's just that I hope in the future, if there's anything, we can communicate face to face. I'm not as fragile as you think. I can bear what I need to bear."
"I understand."
In the afternoon, Uma suddenly called, "Mrs. Harriet Lancaster, Mrs. Gemma Lancaster wants to see you."
After finishing her work, Harriet went to the hospital.
For the past two years, Gemma had been staying in the hospital. Ian would come regularly to treat her, but there had been no improvement.
Harriet couldn't remember when she last saw Gemma, but she still greeted her politely, "Mom, long time no see."
"Indeed, it's been a long time." Gemma said coolly, "During the two years you were gone, Tristan suffered quite a bit."
Harriet smiled, "In these two years, Apex Global Group has become so powerful in Athenia that no one can match it. The Lancaster Group has been suppressed to the point of suffocation. I heard Owen is so worried his hair has turned white. You should be happy, Mom."
"A few white hairs haven't stopped him from finding women outside." Gemma snorted coldly, "After Lark, he's added three more regular lovers. One of them even gave birth to a daughter for him last month. He really is a winner in life."
"But as long as Tristan wants, the Lancaster Group has no way out. On this point, you've won."
"Forget it. I didn't call you here today to talk about him." Gemma composed herself and asked, "I heard you and Tristan have made up. That's good. These two years, although I rarely saw him, I could tell his temperament was getting colder. Now that you're back, live your life well and don't make trouble anymore. Tristan isn't young anymore. You should hurry up and give him a few children."
Harriet looked thoughtful.
"What? Did I say something wrong?" Gemma asked.
Harriet said, "Mom, did you hear something and specifically call me here to test me?"
Gemma smiled, "It's so easy talking to you. You're right. I heard you can't have children. Is it true?"
"Yes." Harriet admitted frankly, "My body indeed can't have children."
Gemma's face instantly turned cold, "Tristan can't be without an heir."
"Tristan said he doesn't have a throne to inherit. Even without children, it won't affect our life at all." Harriet said, "Of course, I can understand your desire to be a grandmother. When Xavier gets married and has children, it will naturally fulfill your wish."
"Xavier is different from Tristan." Gemma said seriously, "They're both my children, but Xavier is more average in all aspects and can't compare with Tristan at all. So the children they have will definitely be different too. Tristan has such excellent genes—it would be such a waste if he doesn't have children. I absolutely won't allow him to not have his own children."
Harriet smiled, "So Mom called me here today to throw me a check and make me leave Tristan?"
"I heard MediQuest Group is doing well. You don't lack money." Gemma looked at Harriet, whose temperament was completely different from two years ago, "But Harriet, when two people get married and live together, they have obligations and responsibilities. A woman's responsibility is to give her husband children. Since you can't do that, naturally you need to give me an explanation, right?"
Harriet sat calmly in the chair, "What kind of explanation does Mom want?"
"My original intention was for you to divorce voluntarily and not delay Tristan. But these two years, Tristan hasn't touched any other woman. I can see he really can't let you go. In that case, I won't force him, but the matter of children needs to be resolved somehow, right?"
Harriet nodded, "I think I understand. Mom's meaning is to have Tristan have children with another woman? You've already found the person, haven't you? Quinlan?"
