Chapter 146 My Lover

Chapter 146 My Lover

Harriet looked at Tristan seriously, "Tristan, I didn't tell you before, but Grandma always treated Griffin as family. During those years in the hospital, she kept mentioning him. She told me that if Griffin could come back safely, I must support each other with him."

"Are you using Grandma as an excuse, or are you trying to guilt-trip me?" Tristan's expression grew colder. "You can't disobey Grandma's wishes, and I should also follow her dying wish and accept Griffin into our lives, right? If I object, that means I'm disrespecting Grandma, and you'll get mad at me again, right?"

"How can you talk like that? I'm just stating the facts." A trace of anger crept onto Harriet's face. "He's your biological brother. How could I possibly do anything inappropriate with him? Can you please stop making a fuss over these baseless things? I'm really tired."

Tristan sneered, "And I'm not tired?"

"Since we're both tired, can't we just stop arguing about this and live our lives peacefully?"

"How?" A hint of coldness appeared on Tristan's handsome face. "You won't even have a child, and you still want to live peacefully with me?"

Harriet closed her eyes. "So this is what you're still hung up on. I was wrong not to tell you about taking birth control pills. I apologize. If you think now is the right time to have a child, I promise you, I won't take birth control pills anymore. Is that okay?"

Tristan closed his eyes, hiding the complex emotions within them.

He didn't know when it started, but his emotions had gradually come under Harriet's control.

She could make him angry and disappointed, but she could also make him happy and excited.

Harriet took a deep breath and gradually calmed down.

She took Tristan's hand. "Tristan, Griffin is a friend and family to me. But you're not just my family, you're my lover. We're going to spend our lives together."

"Griffin and I have nothing to hide. Although I can't never see him again, if you really mind him being our neighbor, we can move back to Cloud Bay."

Tristan opened his eyes, the anger on his face already gone. "Really?"

"Of course. Cloud Bay is the wedding home Grandma prepared for us. It's our home."

Tristan raised his hand and hugged her. "I'm glad you think that way, but we don't need to move back for now."

He wanted to see what Griffin was really up to!

After Ian returned to Emberfall, Harriet's workload lightened considerably, and she could leave work on time every day.

But Tristan was still very busy.

Even Griffin next door was leaving early and coming back late. Harriet barely ran into him, only chatting briefly on WhatsApp occasionally.

Although Tristan was busy, he still tried to get off work early. Even if he couldn't make it home for dinner, he wouldn't miss teaching Harriet self-defense.

After this period of practice, Harriet felt her physical fitness had improved a lot.

At night, after she finished showering, Tristan would pin her down in bed, calling it practice for close combat.

Harriet could easily guess his intentions.

Sure enough, while practicing, he would kiss her.

Harriet's hands grabbed the fabric of Tristan's pajamas, responding seriously to his kiss.

They had lost count of how many times they'd made love, but Harriet still couldn't hide her shyness.

Despite being shy, Harriet liked keeping the lights on, liked watching Tristan lose control on top of her.

For a long, long time after their marriage, only in these moments did she feel that Tristan completely belonged to her.

Just as she belonged to him.

But for some reason, lately Tristan liked to cover her eyes during sex and didn't want to make eye contact with her.

Harriet was curious but didn't ask.

Maybe it made him feel better this way.

After all, he was getting rougher each time.

They went at it until late at night. Tristan carried Harriet to the bathroom to wash up, then they came back and fell asleep in each other's arms.

The next day was Sunday. Tristan rarely had a day off at home, and they both slept until noon.

When Harriet woke up, she didn't wake Tristan. She tiptoed to the bathroom to freshen up. Looking out the window, she saw everything was white.

It had snowed.

Harriet quickly finished washing up and went to the living room to see the snow.

Looking out through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the view was breathtakingly beautiful.

Harriet took photos with her phone. Just as she posted them on Facebook, the doorbell rang.

She opened the door, and a figure rushed at her, jumping onto Harriet. "Harriet! I missed you so much!"

Harriet wasn't prepared and almost fell to the ground. "Elowen, get down first."

Only then did Elowen jump down from her. Seeing the love bites on her neck, she grinned mischievously. "You and your husband have such a good relationship?"

Harriet touched her neck embarrassedly. "Don't talk nonsense. Are you on break?"

"Yeah, I just got to Emberfall last night. I came to see you first thing this morning. Pretty thoughtful, right?" Elowen walked into the house on her own. "Harriet, why are you living here? Didn't you always live in that luxury mansion Cloud Bay?"

"This is closer to my workplace, convenient for commuting." Harriet went to get her a drink. "Why are you dressed like this?"

Elowen looked rather plain, not pretty but not ugly either.

But her hair was dyed in various colors, she wore heavy smoky eye makeup, and had nose and tongue piercings.

Just looking at her made Harriet feel pain.

"Harriet, you're so outdated. I look so cool like this." Elowen chewed her gum. "By the way, my dad wants you to come to our house for Christmas this year."

"I can't say for sure right now. In previous years, I've always spent Christmas with Tristan's grandma."

"That's fine. She'll give you a lot of money anyway. Like always, you have to give me the money."

Harriet had always been generous with Elowen, after all, they were cousins.

"Uncle Jasper said your expenses are getting bigger and bigger. Elowen, Uncle Jasper and Aunt Xanthe work hard to make money from their shop. You should be more considerate of them and not spend recklessly."

"My dad is talking nonsense. The money he gives me isn't nearly enough!" Elowen said unhappily. "He even learned to complain about me to you!"

"It was just casual chat, not complaining." Harriet said helplessly. "Anyway, as long as you behave, I won't let you go without. If you need money, you can tell me. I'll give you money for reasonable expenses."

"You're the best to me!" Elowen planted a big kiss on her face. "To show my thanks, I'll treat you to dessert!"

"No need."

"Then I'll have some myself."

Harriet got up to cook in the kitchen.

Elowen ordered dessert on an app. Suddenly she noticed an exquisite brocade box on the coffee table. She opened it and found a dazzling diamond necklace inside.

Elowen gasped in admiration, immediately took out the necklace and put it on, then took out her phone to take selfies like crazy.

The next second, she suddenly felt a sharp gaze. Turning her head, when she met a pair of cold eyes, she shook with fright!

Elowen stood up abruptly. "Mr. Lancaster."

She had never actually met Tristan, but seeing his powerful presence and the fact that he was wearing pajamas, she knew without thinking who he was.

Tristan's thin lips parted slightly, his low, cold voice carrying a hint of displeasure. "Put it down."

Elowen came to her senses and quickly removed the necklace from her neck, putting it back in the brocade box.

"Mr. Lancaster, I didn't mean to touch it. I just wanted to take it out... to look at it..."

Tristan ignored her and went straight to the kitchen.

Elowen turned to look and saw Tristan hugging Harriet from behind as she was busy, whispering something in her ear.

Elowen could feel the sweet atmosphere between them, as if the air itself was filled with pink bubbles.

Seeing Tristan let go of Harriet, Elowen quickly looked away and sat up straight.

Before long, Tristan came out of the kitchen. Without even glancing at Elowen sitting on the sofa, he went straight back to the bedroom.

Only then did Elowen get up and walk into the kitchen, apologizing obediently. "Harriet, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to touch your necklace."

"Necklace?" Harriet was curious. "What necklace?"

"Mr. Lancaster didn't tell you? The necklace on the coffee table."

"I didn't know there was a necklace on the coffee table."

"Then what did he just come tell you?"

Thinking of the cheeky remarks Tristan had said to her, Harriet's face reddened. "Kids shouldn't pry into adults' business. Are you staying for lunch?"

"No." Thinking of Tristan's naturally intimidating presence, Elowen felt overwhelmed.

She didn't dare stay for a meal with him.

"Then be careful on your way home, and send me a message when you get there."

"Okay."
