Chapter 142 You Followed Me
Harriet froze for a moment and let Tristan kiss her, but didn't respond.
After kissing for a while, Tristan reluctantly pulled away. "I apologize. I shouldn't have lied to you, and I shouldn't have bullied you on such an important day as Grandma's memorial."
Harriet added, "You also shouldn't have demanded sex from me regardless of time and place."
"Yes, my fault."
Harriet's voice was muffled. "Don't do this again, or I won't forgive you anymore."
"Okay, I promise. Never again."
That day at the hometown, he actually hadn't really intended to have sex. He was just provoked by what he read in the diary and couldn't control his impulse to punish her.
Actually, he regretted it right after walking out the door, but someone as proud as him couldn't possibly back down, which was why he rushed back to Emberfall that same night.
Tristan looked deeply at Harriet before him. She was gentle and obedient, her eyes shining as she looked at him, as if holding the deepest love in the world.
But that love wasn't meant for him.
Tristan felt his heart twist in pain.
At this moment, he suddenly became willing to pay any price to win Harriet's love!
As long as Harriet's love belonged to him, he would trade everything for it!
He wanted Harriet—not just her body, but her heart too!
He wanted Harriet to belong to him completely.
Only to him!
The clinic was opening a branch in another city, and Ian went there personally to handle things. His patients were temporarily handed over to Harriet.
Harriet suddenly became much busier, but felt especially fulfilled.
Tristan had just taken over Apex Global Group and was also extremely busy. They basically only saw each other in the evenings.
That evening, Harriet had just returned home from a house call when Haven's video call came through.
Harriet quickly answered, her face bright with smiles. "Grandma, good evening."
"Harriet, I miss you!"
"I miss you too, Grandma." Harriet said sweetly. "Christmas is coming soon. You should come back to Emberfall."
"No rush. You're both busy anyway, so I'll come back later." Haven suddenly spoke as if discovering something new. "Harriet, what's that on your neck?"
Harriet suddenly remembered—there was a hickey on her neck that Tristan had left last night!
She'd been wearing a scarf to cover it during the day, but had just taken it off after getting home. She didn't expect Haven to see it.
Harriet's face instantly flushed red. "Grandma, this..."
"I understand." Haven grinned mischievously. "I didn't expect that even though Tristan's sexual function isn't working, he still knows quite a few tricks. That's good—as long as it makes you happy."
Harriet's face turned even redder. "Grandma, no. Didn't Tristan tell you? There's nothing wrong with his body at all."
"What?" Haven looked confused. "What do you mean?"
"He lied to us about not being able to have sex. His body has no aftereffects whatsoever. Sex... is possible."
Not only was it possible, but he was even more intense than before.
Whenever he touched her, he couldn't stop himself. Several times she thought she was going to die in bed.
"Really?" Haven said with delight. "That's wonderful! I knew it—Tristan stayed celibate for over twenty years before marrying you. Heaven couldn't possibly take away his tools that quickly."
Harriet said, "Grandma, we're doing fine. You don't need to worry."
"Good, as long as you two are happy together."
They chatted for over half an hour. After Harriet hung up, she was about to take a shower when the doorbell suddenly rang.
Harriet got up to answer it. It was Gemma and Uma.
"Mom." Despite their unpleasant parting last time, Harriet still greeted her politely. "Are you here for Tristan? He's not off work yet."
"I'm here for you. Let's talk inside."
Uma immediately pushed Gemma, who was sitting in a custom wheelchair, into the house.
Harriet poured a cup of hot water and placed it on the coffee table. "Mom, what is it? Please tell me."
Gemma's eyes were unfriendly. "Uma, show her."
Uma immediately took out several photos from her bag and handed them to Harriet.
Harriet looked at them—they were photos of her and Griffin eating together at a restaurant that day.
Another day when Griffin came to see her, the two of them had coffee together at a café near the clinic. That had also been photographed.
Harriet frowned. "Mom, you're following me?"
"What are you? I don't have that kind of free time to follow you!" Gemma said coldly. "I'm asking you—what's your relationship with this man in the photos?"
"Friends." Harriet said frankly. "Good friends I've known for many years."
"Just friends? That simple?"
"What else?" Harriet asked back. "You're not still insisting that Tristan and I divorce so he can marry into the Borgia family, are you?"
"I'm not thinking that. Tristan is already the CEO of Apex Global Group now. He doesn't need a marriage alliance at all." Gemma stared at her intently. "I'm only asking you—when did you meet this man in the photo, how did you meet him? Tell me the truth!"
Harriet's brow furrowed tighter. "That's my privacy. I have no obligation to report to you. As Tristan's wife, I'm completely innocent. I've never had any inappropriate relationship with any other man."
"Really?" Gemma sneered. "Harriet, you think I'll believe your lies? I'll give you one last chance. What are you two plotting against Tristan? Or what are you plotting against the Lancaster family? Tell me!"
Harriet's mind was a bit confused. "You know about the prenup I signed. There's no way I could plot anything against Tristan. Why would you think I'd scheme against Tristan with him?"
Harriet belatedly realized, "Wait—you weren't following me, but him? Do you think he's plotting against Tristan or the Lancaster family? Well, I can tell you for certain that he has nothing to do with the Lancaster family. You don't need to be so suspicious."
Gemma said angrily, "You're colluding with outsiders to scheme against Tristan, and you dare criticize me? How outrageous!"
"Looks like I can't get through to you." Harriet checked the time. "Tristan should be back soon. Why don't you talk to him about it?"
As soon as she finished speaking, there was movement at the entrance.
Everyone turned to look and saw Tristan striding in on his long legs.
"Mr. Tristan Lancaster." Uma immediately went forward to get his slippers.
"Why didn't you let me know you were coming?" Tristan walked into the living room, took Harriet's hand, and sat down on the sofa before looking at Gemma. "What's going on?"
"I came to ask Harriet what's going on between her and Griffin." Gemma said. "She's your wife, yet she's scheming against you with another man. How can I tolerate that!"
Tristan seemed completely unsurprised, his handsome face calm and unruffled. "This has nothing to do with Harriet."
Harriet looked at him in confusion. "Tristan, what has nothing to do with me? What exactly happened?"
"Don't worry yet." Tristan picked up the remote from the coffee table and turned on the TV.
The TV was broadcasting a live press conference for the Lancaster Group.
Owen sat in the center seat, and Griffin was actually sitting beside him!
