Chapter 131: Not Indulging Her
Harriet froze for a few seconds. When she came to her senses, she said coldly and firmly, "If you can't even give me this basic respect, if you can't even show this much mourning for Grandma, then I have nothing to say. If you insist on having sex today, of course I can't stop you. Why don't you just go find a prostitute!"
Tristan let out a cold laugh, his eyes filling with icy anger. "Find a prostitute? You think I won't dare?"
"What wouldn't you dare to do?" Harriet shot back. "You don't even respect an elder who just passed away. What wouldn't you dare to do!"
"Fine, don't regret this!" Tristan got straight out of bed, grabbed his clothes and left.
The door slammed shut heavily, and there was no more sound from outside.
Harriet didn't know where he went. She just felt so sad, so terribly sad.
Sure enough, even though they were husband and wife, Cleo was only her grandmother.
She could understand that he couldn't share her pain, but she couldn't understand why all he had on his mind was sex.
In his view of marriage, was there only sex?
Marriage shouldn't be like this.
Tristan didn't come back all night.
Harriet was clearly exhausted, but she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. She only managed to doze off a little when dawn was breaking.
At ten in the morning, Jasper called to ask about what happened yesterday.
After chatting with him briefly, Harriet got up to wash up and pack her luggage to return to Emberfall.
Just as she finished packing, the doorbell rang.
Harriet went to answer it and recognized Tristan's bodyguard outside.
"Mrs. Lancaster, I'm here to pick you up."
Only then did Harriet ask, "Where's Tristan?"
"Mr. Lancaster returned to Emberfall last night."
"I see."
The bodyguard came in to help Harriet with her suitcase.
Harriet looked reluctantly at the house before her. Cleo's greatest wish before she died was to come back here.
It could have been realized, but because she went to prison, no one brought Cleo back, causing Cleo to die in the hospital with regrets.
Harriet roughly wiped the tears from her face and finally turned around.
Just as she was about to get in the car, she suddenly paused and turned sharply to look at a large tree not far away.
"Mrs. Lancaster, what's wrong?" the bodyguard asked.
"Nothing."
Harriet collected herself and got in the car.
In the distance, a black figure emerged from behind the tree, staring intently at the direction where the luxury car departed.
When she returned to Emberfall, it was already evening.
Harriet went straight back to Lakeside Gardens. Tristan wasn't there, and Harriet didn't expect him to be.
After all, they had just fought last night.
There were still plenty of ingredients in the fridge, but Harriet wasn't in the mood to cook. She simply made herself a bowl of noodles, then went to the study to practice her medical skills.
When her mind was unsettled, practicing medicine always calmed her down.
At Opulence Club.
Finnegan looked at Tristan, who was drinking moodily while occasionally glancing at his phone, completely puzzled.
"Tristan, you're not waiting for someone's call, are you?"
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Tristan denied.
"No?" Finnegan called him out directly. "I thought you had a fight with someone."
Tristan frowned. "Did she tell you?"
"So I really guessed right?" Finnegan's face showed more excitement than winning a case. "Mr. Lancaster is actually being controlled by a woman, sulking while hoping she'll call. Who would have thought? You're quite the brooder!"
Tristan's face immediately darkened. "No one will think you're mute if you don't talk."
"You called me out for drinks, and now you won't let me talk?" Finnegan patted his shoulder. "Tristan, being this domineering won't work. You'll scare the girl away."
Tristan took a sip of his drink. "She's already my wife. Where can she run to?"
"Who says she's your private property just because you're married? You can get divorced after marriage." Finnegan said seriously. "Don't think you don't need to make your wife happy just because you're married. On the contrary, after marriage you should make even more effort. Marriage is a subject that requires lifelong study."
Tristan glanced at him with disdain. "You're not even married, and you're teaching me how to manage a marriage?"
Has the world gone crazy?
"Who says unmarried people don't understand how couples should get along?" Finnegan smiled. "On the contrary, in my line of work, I've seen too many couples turn against each other, which is why I never take divorce cases."
Tristan felt irritated in his chest and pulled out a cigarette to light.
"Looks like you really have run into a problem?" Finnegan was curious. "Tell me about it?"
Tristan took a drag. "What's the point of telling you?"
"So you look down on me? Then I'll ask the other party involved."
When Harriet received the call, she immediately thought of what happened that afternoon.
Finnegan had helped Tristan trick her into going to the skyscraper. He could probably guess what they did there, right?
Harriet felt her face burning up.
She took a deep breath and answered the phone. "Mr. Savoy?"
"Ms. Getty, good evening." The voice on the other end was gentle and refined. "I have something I'd like to discuss with you. I wonder if you have time to come to Opulence Club right now."
"Can't you say it over the phone? It's quite late and not very convenient."
"It's something that must be said in person. I'd have to trouble Ms. Getty to make the trip."
Harriet could vaguely guess what this was about. "Mr. Savoy, Tristan is with you, right?"
Finnegan instinctively looked at Tristan. "That's right."
Harriet refused directly. "It's too late today, really not convenient. If needed, I can come to your law office tomorrow."
"Actually, here's the thing," Finnegan said. "Tristan has had too much to drink. I'd like to ask you to come pick him up."
"I took a flight today and I'm a bit tired. You can call Ryder and have him pick Tristan up." Harriet said. "I have another call coming in. I'll hang up now."
Finnegan looked at the disconnected call, his heart sinking, already sensing a chill rising in the large, luxurious private room.
He turned his head and saw Tristan's gloomy face.
"Tristan, is Ms. Getty playing hard to get with you?"
"She's not that calculating." Tristan said through gritted teeth. "She really doesn't want to come pick me up!"
Finnegan was actually quite surprised.
Not just surprised by Harriet's attitude, but more surprised by Tristan's reaction.
"If she won't come pick you up, you can go find her," Finnegan suggested. "Should I drive you back?"
"No need." Tristan kept pouring himself strong liquor. "This time, I won't indulge her!"
For several days in a row, Tristan didn't return to Lakeside Gardens.
Harriet was glad she had a place to stay, otherwise she would have had nowhere to live after fighting with Tristan.
Although Haven had given her this house, she didn't plan to accept it without qualms. She planned to slowly save money to pay Haven back.
In the afternoon, Harriet went to see Flora for a consultation and heard her excitedly sharing news.
"Harriet, I heard that the consortium boss is holding a banquet at the skyscraper, and everyone wants to get an invitation. I wonder if Mr. Lancaster is trying to get one."
"I don't know."
Though Tristan knew the consortium boss, so getting an invitation shouldn't be a problem.
"What's wrong?" Flora noticed something was off from her reaction. "Did you and Mr. Lancaster have a fight?"
"No."
"You say no, but it's written all over your face." Flora smiled. "It's normal for couples to argue."
Harriet's mind was a mess. "Some things can't be explained in just a few words."
"Then learn to let big things become small and small things disappear. Couples can't be too serious with each other." Flora said earnestly. "You just need to know that Mr. Lancaster actually cares about you a lot. By the way, there's something you probably don't know yet, right?"
