Chapter 83 The Divine Heart is Moved
Felix's one line managed to insult both of them.
Delta's face flushed crimson. Facing Felix, she didn't dare snap back—couldn't snap back. After all, she'd been with Wesley while he was still married. She kept her mouth shut.
Wesley, however, spoke up. "Mr. Evans, your reputation precedes you."
"Hardly. Can't compare to you, Mr. Ross."
Felix turned to Scarlett. "Ms. Mellon, I'll be heading out."
Scarlett nodded her goodbye and left, not sparing Wesley or Delta a single glance.
Delta, stewing in humiliation, stomped her foot at Wesley.
"Because of you, I've become a complete joke."
Wesley rushed to pacify her. "I know you've suffered. I'll make it up to you."
Delta's unease deepened. Scarlett's earlier words stuck like thorns in her chest—impossible to pull out.
"Wesley, tell me the truth. Do you actually love me, or are you just using me?"
Wesley sensed trouble. "Did Scarlett say something to you?"
"She said you've brainwashed me. Said I'm as blind as she was." Delta's voice rose, indignant. Who did Scarlett think she was?
"She's just jealous. I never loved her, and now she wants to tear us apart."
"What an ungrateful bitch. You helped her, and now she's coming after your money. You should've gotten a prenup."
Wesley sighed. "Who thinks that far ahead? Too late for regrets now."
"Don't worry. Good always wins over evil. You'll win this lawsuit."
Wesley pulled her close, his eyes dark.
Felix slid into his car and dialed Ambrose before pulling out.
"Got the truth you wanted." He spoke once the line connected.
"Go ahead."
"She was set up. Had no idea who the father was. Wesley forced her to have the baby so he could screw her over in the divorce."
Felix relayed everything Scarlett had told him.
Silence stretched for half a minute before Ambrose responded. "Got it."
"By the way, Delta's your cousin, right? How'd you end up with such a brain-dead relative?" Felix switched topics.
When Ambrose asked for details, Felix filled him in. Ambrose let out a cold laugh.
"Stupid and oblivious."
Felix eyed the road ahead. "Though you gotta hand it to Wesley—takes skill to play two women like that."
"He's just a scumbag." Ambrose's disgust was palpable.
"If Ms. Mellon fell for his trap, the guy's got game. Better watch out."
After hanging up, Ambrose immediately called Mason. He made it clear he wanted nothing to do with brain-dead relatives and flat-out rejected Mason's previous request.
Mason caught the anger in Ambrose's tone. Panicking, he called Delta immediately.
"Get home. Now." Mason's voice left no room for argument.
Delta heard the fury and didn't dare disobey. She had Wesley drive her home. He was only too happy to drop her off, heading straight for the Powells' estate.
Delta walked into the living room to find Mason waiting. "Dad—"
Mason's hand cracked across her face, cutting her off mid-word.
Delta staggered, tears welling as she stared at him in disbelief.
"You... you hit me?"
"I'm trying to knock some sense into you. Did Wesley put some kind of spell on you? How can you be this brainless?" Mason's face turned crimson as he shouted.
"What did I do?" Delta sobbed.
"You're a Powell heiress throwing yourself at a married man like some cheap mistress. You've humiliated this entire family. Now Ambrose wants nothing to do with us. They have standards."
The connection he'd worked so hard to cultivate, destroyed by his spoiled daughter. He could've strangled her.
Delta hadn't expected this. Hadn't Ambrose always valued their family? Had he cut them off over something this trivial?
It was because of Scarlett.
"Dad, it's all because of Scarlett. Wesley told me they're having an affair." Delta deflected, defiant.
Seeing her still deluded, Mason gasped for breath. "You still don't get it. Wesley's using you—same as he used Scarlett. How can you be this stupid?"
"What could he possibly use Scarlett for? She had nothing. Wesley helped her."
"Have you heard a word I've said these past few days? They dated in college. Wesley latched onto Scarlett for the Mellon name. After Owen's downfall, what happened to her?"
Mason pleaded desperately, but Delta seemed brainwashed, refusing to believe a word.
"That's not true. You just want me to break up with him."
Mason slapped her again. "You're beyond saving. Still delusional even now."
"Listen carefully. If you don't cut him off completely, don't bother coming back. I'll pretend I never had a daughter. If you want to throw your life away, be my guest."
Mason's disappointment was absolute.
Realizing there was no negotiating, Delta covered her face and ran upstairs, crying.
Mason collapsed onto the sofa. Before leaving, he addressed the staff.
"Don't let Delta leave. If she insists, tell her she's not welcome back."
Scarlett returned to the office just as work hours began. Heading to the break room for coffee, she caught voices gossiping.
"I saw Mr. Boleyn this morning. He had this huge hickey on his neck—definitely a bite mark." Someone whispered.
"Mr. Boleyn's like some untouchable god. So does this mean he's finally interested in someone?"
"Right? Wonder what kind of woman caught his eye."
"Probably some goddess-level beauty."
Scarlett walked in, head down. The gossipers fell silent and scurried out with their coffee.
Scarlett poured coffee into her cup, trying to remember if she'd bitten Ambrose last night. Pretty sure she had. Why hadn't he covered it up?
Did he seriously not care about his image?
The thought made her head throb.
At six, Scarlett grabbed her bag and drove to the daycare for pickup.
"Yara's mom, I've noticed you always pick up and drop off Hayden. What's your relationship with Mr. Boleyn?"
Another parent approached.
"I'm just helping out with pickups—making a little gas money." Scarlett smiled.
"I thought you and Hayden's dad were together."
