Chapter 81 How to Soothe When Angry

Chapter 81 How to Soothe When Angry

Scarlett's heart skipped a beat. In her panic earlier, she hadn't checked for anything out of place, but her recovery was quick.

"Mom must've left them there."

She pivoted immediately, redirecting Yara's attention.

"Did you guys brush your teeth yet?"

"We did." The two kids answered in unison, the slipper mystery already forgotten.

"Then go check if breakfast is ready. If it is, go ahead and eat. Mommy needs to get dressed, then I'll drive you to school."

Right now, Scarlett wanted nothing more than to get the kids out of her room. Yara's observation skills were too sharp—who knew what else she might notice.

This was their usual morning routine anyway, so Yara didn't think twice. She cheerfully turned toward the door, but not before calling back over her shoulder.

"Don't take forever, okay?"

Hayden followed his sister, but at the doorway, his eyes lingered on those slippers. His expression turned thoughtful.

Once the kids left, Scarlett exhaled in relief and quickly shut the door.

Walking past the closet, she deliberately didn't call Ambrose out. She headed straight for the bathroom instead. Let him enjoy being trapped in there like it's a timeout corner.

But when she stepped into the bathroom, the scene before her made her heart clench.

Ambrose's clothes were scattered everywhere. Especially his boxers—hanging high on the towel rack, fluttering slightly in the breeze from the open window.

She bent down, gathering each item piece by piece and tossing them into the laundry basket. When she finished that delightful task, she glanced up and noticed her bath towel wasn't where she'd left it. No guessing necessary—he'd used it.

Scarlett's jaw clenched.

She turned to the sink and discovered her toothbrush had been moved too. He even used her toothbrush? Was he serious right now?

She had no choice but to grab a new one. Thank God she kept backups. Just as she unwrapped the fresh toothbrush, Ambrose appeared in the doorway.

He leaned casually against the frame, his gaze burning into her.

"We kissed, and you're really gonna be weird about sharing a toothbrush?"

Scarlett didn't even grace him with a glance. His presence was too irritating. She kept her head down, tearing open the packaging, squeezing toothpaste onto the bristles, and started brushing—treating Ambrose like he was absolutely invisible.

Maybe sensing she was genuinely upset, Ambrose stepped into the bathroom and stood beside her, reaching for her old toothbrush. But his eyes kept darting toward her.

"You mad?"

Scarlett continued ignoring him, even shifting slightly to put more distance between them.

"Next time I'll ask before crashing here." Ambrose's tone was conciliatory.

Still nothing from Scarlett. At this point, she genuinely didn't know how to deal with him. He didn't listen when she talked—so what was the point of communicating?

She silently finished brushing her teeth, washed her face, and walked out of the bathroom without a word.

Ambrose watched her slender figure retreat. She was seriously pissed. He rubbed his temples. How the hell was he supposed to fix this?

After changing clothes, Scarlett headed to the dining room, where both kids had already finished breakfast. She didn't bother eating, just grabbed her things and hustled the children out the door. From start to finish, neither kid realized Ambrose was in the house.

When Ambrose emerged, he startled Rhea half to death. "Mr. Boleyn, you stayed the night?"

"Yeah, I drove her home last night. It got too late, so I crashed here." Ambrose answered while scanning the living room. No sign of Scarlett or the kids.

"Scarlett took them to school. Want some breakfast?" Rhea offered.

Hearing this, Ambrose declined the food and left. Rhea watched him go with a wistful sigh.

"Those two are perfect for each other. If they could just get together, that'd be something."

After dropping the kids at school, Scarlett headed to the Boleyn Group and immediately dove into work mode. With only two weeks until the bidding deadline, there was no time to waste.

After last night's incident, her coworkers had developed a healthy respect for her. The four women from yesterday's confrontation now actively greeted her when they crossed paths.

Scarlett remained pleasant, acting as if nothing unpleasant had ever happened.

At ten a.m., the design department called a meeting. This was Scarlett's first departmental meeting with her team. She asked Echo Bell, the most composed of the four women, what to expect. Echo told her to just bring a notebook and look engaged.

Scarlett and her four team members showed up with notebooks in hand.

After the meeting, Felix called to arrange a meeting time. They needed to discuss a legal strategy in case Wesley refused to hand over the shares.

They scheduled lunch at a Western restaurant near the Boleyn Group. Scarlett headed over the moment she clocked out.

She arrived just as Felix did—they practically walked through the door together.

This wasn't Felix's first time seeing Scarlett, but the moment he laid eyes on her, he understood why Ambrose was so fixated.

She possessed more than just beauty. There was a quality others lacked—gentle yet serene, with a presence that naturally calmed those around her.

They sat at their reserved table, and Felix got straight to business.

"Ms. Mellon, I've compiled most of your documentation. Take a look and let me know if anything needs to be added."

He slid a folder across the table.

Scarlett reviewed it on the spot. When she finished, surprise flickered across her face.

"Mr. Evans, how did you obtain some of these materials?"

These were evidence of Wesley's affairs with various women—collecting this would've taken considerable time.

Felix's lips curved slightly. "Ambrose provided them."

Scarlett froze. Had Ambrose gathered this evidence for her?

"Honestly, even without these, you'd likely get the shares. But this is insurance," Felix said.

Scarlett had been planning to track down Delta herself. Apparently unnecessary now. Remembering Bianca's recording, she asked.

"I have an audio recording that might be useful too."

She reached into her bag, pulled out a USB drive, and handed it over. "This is a recording of a Ross Group employee. It proves Wesley's relationship with her."

"We can submit that as evidence as well." Felix accepted it, then his expression turned serious.

"Ms. Mellon, there's something I need to clarify with you."

She nodded for him to continue.

"Wesley claims your children aren't biologically his. Is that true?"

Scarlett's grip on her water glass tightened. So Wesley was planning to use this against her—to erase his infidelity by questioning paternity.

The server arrived with their food.

Once the dishes were set down, Scarlett picked up her knife and fork. "Yes. Will that prevent me from getting the shares?"

Felix was silent for a moment before asking instead of answering, "Are you in contact with the children's biological father?"

Scarlett shook her head but didn't elaborate.

"The divorce agreement should be sufficient to win the case. But to be safe, I need to understand the full situation. That way, when opposing counsel tries to leverage this point, I'll know how to counter effectively."

Scarlett absently cut her steak, considering how to explain.

"I was set up," she finally said. "I don't know who the father is."
