Chapter 6 The Consequences of Her Scheming Against Ambrose
After hanging up the phone, Scarlett grabbed her bag, left the office, and drove to the kindergarten to pick up Yara.
After bringing Yara home and preparing dinner, once her daughter was settled, she told Briar about going to sign the contract and mentioned the divorce exchange as well. Concerned that Wesley might cause trouble, Briar offered to accompany her. Since there was no one to watch Yara, they decided to bring her along too.
Briar waited with Yara in a separate room while Scarlett went to find Aiden to sign the contract.
Scarlett knocked on the door, which Aiden opened. She walked in with her bag, and the door immediately closed behind her.
She glanced sideways at the firmly shut door but ultimately said nothing. Walking to the center of the room, she took out the contract and handed it to Aiden.
"Mr. Smith, please review the contract. If everything looks acceptable, we can finalize it."
Aiden didn't take it, saying coolly, "Ms. Mellon, what's the rush? As long as you have a drink with me, the contract won't be a problem."
He walked to the table in the middle of the room and poured wine while keeping his eyes fixed on Scarlett, like a wolf spotting its prey.
After pouring, Aiden took a glass in each hand, approached her, and offered one to her as she extended the contract to him.
He took the contract but immediately tossed it onto the table. "Drink first."
Scarlett held the wine glass thoughtfully and asked, "Mr. Smith, you clearly said you wouldn't sign that night. Why did you change your mind?"
Aiden raised his glass slightly. "That night, you took the blame for me. I want to make it up to you."
He was referring to how he had dumped his problems on her, but Scarlett naturally didn't believe him.
Just as Aiden's hand touched her shoulder, her phone rang in her bag. She shifted her body, avoiding his touch.
"Sorry, I need to take this call."
She pulled out her phone and answered it in front of Aiden.
"Okay, Mommy will call him right now. Be a good girl and wait."
After hanging up, she smiled at Aiden and said, "I need to make another call."
Aiden didn't object, gesturing for her to handle it quickly as he walked toward the bed with his wine glass. Halfway there, he heard Scarlett say into the phone, "Mr. Boleyn, this is Scarlett. Yara is asking you for candy."
Scarlett had researched Ambrose's background later and knew he was Ambrose Boleyn, a true power player in Silverlight City.
Aiden frowned slightly, wondering who this Mr. Boleyn was, then heard Scarlett continue, "Alright, I'll come find you now."
After hanging up, Scarlett gave Aiden an apologetic look. "Mr. Smith, I'm afraid I'll need to ask you to wait. I need to take my child to see Ambrose, otherwise she'll keep crying."
Standing by the large bed, Aiden thought he'd misheard and furrowed his brow. "Who did you say?"
Scarlett repeated herself, and Aiden, thinking she was using Ambrose's name to avoid him, said coldly, "Do you know what happens to people who casually drop Ambrose's name?"
Scarlett took a couple of steps forward and showed him her recent call log. "That's his personal number."
Aiden didn't actually have Ambrose's number, but he memorized it.
Not knowing the true relationship between Scarlett and Ambrose, Aiden didn't dare act rashly and agreed to let Scarlett attend to her business first. After she left, he had someone verify Ambrose's phone number.
Scarlett returned to the room where Yara was waiting and asked Briar to take her to Ambrose, who happened to be at the Four Seasons Hotel.
When Ambrose opened the door to Briar and Yara, the little girl smiled sweetly and said, "We meet again!"
Ambrose looked at Yara, with her fine, soft long hair, sleeveless dress, and pink princess shoes. She looked as pretty as a doll, her bright eyes fixed unblinkingly on him.
Ambrose asked in a gentle voice, "Why do you want candy so late?"
"I wanted to see you and get some candy too," Yara replied sweetly.
Before coming, Scarlett had instructed her to say she wanted candy if Ambrose asked, but Yara genuinely wanted to see him.
Ambrose's lips curved slightly upward. He looked up at Briar standing behind Yara, ignoring her surprised expression, and asked coolly, "Your mom didn't come?"
"Mommy went to sign a contract," Yara said, swinging her head.
"Her mom will be back soon. She was worried about keeping you waiting, so she sent me with Yara," Briar quickly explained, secretly thinking how handsome this man was.
"What are you doing here?" Yara suddenly asked.
"Business meeting," Ambrose answered, looking down at her. "I've sent someone to buy candy. It'll take a moment. Let's wait in the next room."
Yara nodded. "Call my mommy and tell her to come here after she's done working."
Briar took Yara to wait in a nearby room.
Shortly after, Chase returned with the candy. Ambrose took it and instructed him to find out where Scarlett was signing her contract tonight.
After Yara left, Scarlett timed her return to Aiden's room.
"Mr. Smith, I apologize for the delay," Scarlett said, feigning regret while observing Aiden's expression.
Aiden stared at her darkly, suddenly asking, "What's your relationship with Ambrose?"
Scarlett guessed that Aiden now believed she and Ambrose were connected, so she replied, "We know each other, but I wouldn't say we have a deep relationship."
Aiden stared at her, disbelieving. He had just confirmed through Chase that the number on her phone was indeed Ambrose's.
He couldn't even get Ambrose's personal number, so how could she have it if their relationship wasn't significant?
That night, Ambrose had initially allowed her to sit beside him, but after stepping out briefly, his attitude changed. Had she somehow angered him outside?
But he'd never heard of Ambrose having a mistress!
Plus, Scarlett was a married woman. Did Ambrose have that kind of preference?
"Mr. Smith, when do you think we can sign the contract?" Scarlett quickly returned to the main topic.
Aiden sat in a chair by the table, his gaze dark. "Why are you in such a hurry?"
"Mr. Boleyn is watching my child for me. I can't keep him waiting too long," Scarlett mentioned Ambrose again, and Aiden looked up with a smile.
"Someone of Mr. Boleyn's stature would watch a child for a woman he has no relationship with?"
Ultimately, he still wanted to force Scarlett to reveal her relationship with Ambrose. Scarlett realized that without providing some concrete evidence, she wouldn't get the contract.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Aiden paused for a few seconds before finally getting up to answer.
Opening the door, he saw who was standing there and smiled. "Chase, what brings you here?"
"Where is Ms. Mellon?" Chase didn't answer, but asked instead.
Seeing that Chase was looking for Scarlett, Aiden now had all his questions answered. Scarlett and Ambrose must have a deep relationship, otherwise why would Ambrose's personal bodyguard come looking for her?
"She's inside," he said.
"Is the contract signed?" Chase asked.
Hearing the voices, Scarlett walked over and was shocked to see Chase. Why was he here? Had Ambrose somehow detected her little scheme?
Aiden glanced at Scarlett and asked, "Ms. Mellon, do you want to sign the contract?"
Scarlett paused for two seconds. "Mr. Smith, that depends on your intention."
When Aiden didn't immediately act, Chase said, "Mr. Smith, it's just a contract. Why are you hesitating so long? Do you have something else in mind?"
Aiden caught his meaning and quickly replied, "How dare I have any thoughts when Mr. Boleyn's people are involved? I'll sign it now."
What Scarlett didn't expect was that after getting the contract from Aiden, an even more unbearable encounter with Ambrose awaited her.
