Chapter 57 Break Up, Play Fair
Delta suddenly turned her attention to Scarlett. When Ambrose went silent on the other end, she pressed again after a beat of dead air.
"Ambrose, are you even listening?"
"Don't jump to conclusions before you know the full story. Makes you look... not very smart."
The subtle dig made Delta bristle. Ambrose was her cousin—and here he was taking some outsider's side over hers.
Annoyed as she was, she knew better than to voice it. Her mind flickered to those rumors from a few weeks back about him and Scarlett. She tested the waters carefully.
"Ambrose, what's really going on between you and Scarlett? Do you actually like her? Or is this whole thing just about keeping the Mellons happy?"
"What do you think?" He deflected with a question.
Delta desperately wanted to believe Ambrose couldn't possibly be interested in Scarlett. The woman was divorced with a kid, hardly suitable for someone of Ambrose's status.
The thought tumbled straight out of her mouth.
"There's no way you'd go for a divorced mom. It's got to be about Owen."
Ambrose didn't validate her theory. His tone stayed flat. "Whatever you decide to do, think it through. Tomorrow is Wesley's divorce date. You better make damn sure he's actually going through with it."
The line went dead.
Alone in his chair, Ambrose's expression darkened.
Delta stared at her phone as his parting words sank in like ice water.
She hadn't contacted Wesley in days. What if he thought she was too angry to forgive him? What if he got cold feet about the divorce?
Panic seized her chest. She immediately pulled up Wesley's number.
At that exact moment, Wesley was in a hotel room with Bianca.
Bianca bit her crimson lips, eyes playing with tears and seduction. "You've been ignoring me lately."
"Work's been insane." Wesley's expression stayed blank as he took in Bianca's practiced allure.
"Let me make you feel better." She caught his gaze lingering and smiled, leaning up to brush her lips against his while her arms snaked around his neck.
Tomorrow's divorce papers weighed on Wesley like a stone. The restlessness had nowhere to go—until Bianca's touch sparked something darker. He shoved her down hard.
His mouth attacked her neck, clothes ripping under rough hands.
"Wesley, what's wrong? Did Delta piss you off again?" Bianca loved him like this.
She prided herself on understanding him better than anyone.
Wesley's gaze turned stormy as he stared her down, lips pressed tight. His movements grew more violent.
This was the only way to release the suffocating pressure in his chest. But tonight, no matter how hard he tried, the fire wouldn't extinguish.
Bianca noticed. Her smile turned knowing. "Let's try something different."
She repositioned herself on the bed, that sultry smile spreading as she lowered her head.
Wesley watched with cold eyes. He couldn't deny it—Bianca knew exactly how to please him. That knowledge was why he'd kept her around for four years.
When it was over, emptiness crashed through him like never before.
Scarlett's missed calls from earlier flashed through his mind. Tomorrow made it official—no more ties between them. The hollow feeling in his chest deepened.
No. He wouldn't let Scarlett slip away completely.
He stood abruptly, reaching for his clothes.
"Wesley, why are you leaving so fast?" Bianca's voice turned anxious.
He ignored her, pulling a bank card from his wallet and tossing it onto her bare skin.
"Take this. Leave the company."
Her eyes went wide with disbelief. "What the hell does that mean?"
Wesley turned, his gaze cutting through her like a blade. "You seriously don't know what stupid thing you did?"
Bianca forgot about her state of undress, scrambling to grab his hand.
"Wesley, what did I do wrong?"
Her face had gone ashen.
Wesley looked down at where she clutched him, something murderous flickering in his eyes. His hand shot up to grip her jaw. "Bianca, you've been with me for years, but that doesn't give you permission to run your mouth to Scarlett. Who gave you that right? You know what I hate most?"
The color drained from her face. She never imagined he'd blow up over this—much less kick her out.
She'd just wanted to wipe that superior look off Scarlett's face by throwing their affair in her face. She hadn't expected Scarlett to actually tell Wesley.
Reading her expression, Wesley's cold smile turned glacial.
"Take the money. Get out of the company."
"Wesley, I swear I'll never make that mistake again. Please, just give me one more chance." She kept lowering herself, begging.
She'd invested years in this relationship. She wasn't about to give up now—especially with Delta in the picture. Girls like Delta, with their princess complexes, would drive Wesley crazy eventually.
Only someone easygoing like her could handle him long-term.
Wesley stared at her, reading every calculated thought. A laugh escaped him. "Too late. Pack your things and go. Don't make this uglier than it needs to be."
His hand twisted free from her jaw. He turned toward the door.
Bianca's face crumpled, tears welling in her eyes. After all this time together, one mistake was all it took for him to dump her? Had she ever meant anything to him at all?
Watching his broad shoulders retreat, desperation clawed at her throat.
"Did you ever even love me?" The question ripped out of her.
Wesley froze mid-step, then turned. Light from overhead cast shadows across his handsome features, making him look almost sinister—and definitely mocking.
"Bianca, if you can't handle casual, don't play the game. Don't be naive. There was never a future for us."
The words made her stagger back. "This was just... casual to you?"
"Did you seriously think I'd marry someone like you? Let me spell it out—you're not qualified to be the heir's wife in the Ross family. Take the money and leave."
He laid it out with brutal clarity before turning away again.
"You're in love with Scarlett, aren't you?" Bianca's voice cracked with hysteria.
Wesley didn't take another step, but he didn't turn around either. His response came cold and detached. "Bianca, you're smart. Don't make this messy. Won't end well for either of us. There's five million on that card. Take it and go."
"I don't want your money."
"Don't push this. I have ways of making sure you can't survive in this city."
With that, Wesley yanked the door open and disappeared.
Bianca collapsed to the floor. This was all because of Scarlett. The injustice burned through her.
