Chapter 51 Chaotic Confrontation

Chapter 51 Chaotic Confrontation

Scarlett grabbed her purse and let out a cold laugh. "Don't be ridiculous. Are you seriously still trying to play the heartbroken victim with that pathetic performance?"

She took a sharp breath and continued her tirade. "Stop pushing my buttons. I used to be easygoing—that was before I realized what a complete scumbag you are. If I'd known sooner, I never would've let you waste years of my life."

"I wasted your life? Who cheated first?" Wesley's voice cracked as he shouted back.

"Fine. Since you keep bringing that up, let me ask you something—that night when I called, why didn't you pick up? Where the hell were you?" Scarlett crossed her arms, ready to settle this once and for all.

"That night I was at a business dinner. You know how tight money was back then—I was scrambling for investors. I had too much to drink schmoozing potential partners. I didn't even hear my phone ring." Wesley's face remained impassive as he spun his lies.

"Didn't hear your phone? Bullshit. You weren't at any business dinner. You were screwing around with Bianca." Scarlett ripped away his flimsy excuse without mercy.

Wesley stared at her in disbelief, as if asking how do you know?

A cold smile twisted Scarlett's lips as she stepped closer. "You keep saying I betrayed you, but the truth is you were hooking up with Bianca even before our wedding. I just didn't know it. Then, when my dad's company went under, you didn't even bother hiding it anymore. You slept with different women left and right—you even made moves on my little sister Brielle. Wesley, you're the most disgusting, filthy man I've ever met."

"What gives you the right to lecture me about morality? Even if I had cheated—which I didn't—you have no standing to judge me. Besides, I was set up that night. And you made it happen." By the end, Scarlett's eyes looked ready to bleed.

"I wasn't going to dig up the past, but you people keep playing the victim. It's absolutely revolting. How can anyone be this shameless?"

Her hand flew across his face with a sharp crack.

The slap echoed through the space, leaving Wesley's entire face numb. Fury flashed in his eyes, but he didn't dare strike back. Instead, he roared, "I was never with Bianca!"

"Bianca told me herself. She even sent me a video of you two together that night."

Wesley staggered back a step, staring at Scarlett in shock.

She sneered. "Cat got your tongue?"

Wesley lowered his head, sucking in a breath as if gathering courage before looking up again.

"Okay, so maybe Bianca and I were together that night. But Brielle and I? There's absolutely nothing between us. You have to believe me on this."

He reached for her arm, but Scarlett jerked away in disgust. "If there's nothing between you and Brielle, then why would she know about what happened to me that night? Why would you go out of your way to help her?"

Wesley's expression shifted dramatically, but he quickly composed himself. "Because she lent me money. When the company was about to go bankrupt, she gave me a hundred thousand dollars that saved the business."

That matched what Tatum had said. Scarlett paused for two seconds. "Why would she help you?"

Wesley hesitated for a beat. "I told her... that the baby you were carrying wasn't mine. That's when she agreed to help."

Scarlett stumbled backward, staring at him in disbelief. "You traded that information for a hundred grand?"

Wesley nodded, then quickly added, "I had no choice. The company was going under."

Scarlett's mind spun. Something felt off, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. She pressed her hand to her forehead—and then it clicked.

"Wait. That doesn't add up. Even if you told her that, she never would've given you the money. Nobody knows her better than I do—she doesn't do anything without getting something in return. There has to be more to your relationship."

Scarlett pressed harder, and Wesley's resolve started crumbling, though he stuck to his story.

"If you don't believe me, there's nothing I can do. Brielle and I have nothing going on. Think about it—if we did, why would she leave? She would've forced you to divorce me by now."

That logic held some water, but Scarlett still wasn't buying it. She fixed him with an icy stare that seemed to bore right through him. After a long moment, she changed tactics.

"You came here to see her, didn't you?"

"No, I came to find you. After what my mom did last time, I wanted to apologize in person. But you wouldn't see me, so I had to take a chance on running into you here."

"Let me guess—Tatum sent you. Doesn't she realize that your being here will only keep Brielle locked up longer?" Scarlett's smile was almost predatory.

Looking at this transformed version of Scarlett, Wesley said, "I really just came to apologize. Whatever happens between us, I don't want us to become enemies."

"You're not important enough to be my enemy, Wesley. Listen carefully—from now on, we're strangers. If we pass each other on the street, don't even bother saying hi."

She turned to leave, but after two steps, she stopped and looked back.

"The court date's coming up. I expect you to be on time."

"Ambrose claims he helped you through your father's connections, but I know that's not true. I know what's really between you two. I can't touch him, but neither can you. He's nothing like me—I'm willing to give you the divorce and a fair settlement."

Wesley called after her.

His words were cut off by a shrill scream.

"Wesley! What's your relationship with her?"

Both of them whirled around to see Delta standing a short distance away, glaring at Wesley with pure venom in her eyes.

The next second, Delta charged at Wesley, designer purse swinging as she jabbed a finger at him.

"What did you mean you'd 'agree to divorce'? Are you telling me you're married to her?"

Wesley looked at Delta with a mix of anxiety and strange relief. Finally, he nodded.

"Yes. We were married. We're in the middle of divorce proceedings now."

Delta reeled back, unable to process this. Her hand cracked across his face. "You lied to me!"

Wesley's face went numb again from the impact. "I didn't want to lie, but I didn't know how to explain it. My relationship with her—it's complicated."

"Complicated? So you just let me become the other woman? Wesley, is this your idea of loving me?" Delta's hand flew at his face again.

This time, Wesley caught her wrist. "Delta, I'm divorcing her. The papers are already filed."

Despite his explanation, Delta couldn't accept it. Her expensive bag became a weapon as she pummeled him. "Liar! You made me a laughingstock!"

"We only have a marriage certificate on paper. Nothing ever happened between us!" Wesley blurted out in desperation.
