Chapter 309 Finding Out the Person Behind
Chapter 309 Finding Out the Person Behind
With Scarlett not coming home, the two children missed her dearly and kept looking for her in vain. Since it couldn’t be hidden anyway, Ambrose had no option but to tell them the truth.
Hearing that Scarlett was injured and in the hospital, the children refused to attend schooland insisted on going to see her. Left with no other option, Ambrose had the bodyguards take them there.
The two little ones rushed into the hospital room, and when they saw Scarlett's condition, they were so upset that they almost cried.
"Mommy, what happened to your foot?" Yara stared at Scarlett's leg in the cast, her eyes filled with concern.
"It's okay, Mommy just injured her leg a little. With this on, it’ll be fine soon." Scarlett downplayed it to comfort Yara, not wanting to scare her.
Yara nodded, then walked up to her and wrapped her chubby little arms tightly around her.
This was her way of showing that she was worried.
In the past, whenever Scarlett was sick in bed, Yara would hold onto her like this and not let go.
Scarlett wrapped her arms around Yara's small body, gently patting her back to comfort her. "It's okay, Mommy will be better soon."
Seeing Yara's unusual reaction, Ambrose felt bad. He stepped forward, wanting to hold and comfort her.
"Yara, let me hold you so Mommy can rest properly."
Yara turned to look at Ambrose. "I want Mommy to hold me."
Scarlett held a very important place in Yara's heart. She really liked Ambrose, but he couldn't replace Scarlett in her heart.
Scarlett glanced at Ambrose, silently indicating that Yara could keep holding on for a while.
Ambrose had no choice. While he was worried Yara might accidentally hit Scarlett’s leg, her anxious emotions also hurt him. How much must the mother and daughter have suffered before? Otherwise, why would Yara be like this?
He felt awful.
Hayden, who had been nearby all along, watched the scene and then said to Yara.
"Yara, let Mommy rest. She'll be uncomfortable like this. You don't need to worry. My dad is here, and he’ll ensure the doctors do everything to help her recover."
But Yara ignored him and just kept her usual mindset, holding onto Scarlett and not letting go.
Hayden had no choice either, so he just sat to the side, and played with his toys.
"Yara, Mommy is really okay. You don't need to worry."
It wasn't until Yara felt satisfied that she finally let go of Scarlett. Then she looked at Ambrose and said in a sweet childlike voice.
"Ambrose, I don't want to go to school today. I want to stay with Mommy. I swear, I won't bother her."
Ambrose agreed without hesitation, though Scarlett’s only injury was her leg and nothing else was serious, so she intended to leave the hospital.
"Okay, Mommy will be discharged and will go home soon. You and Hayden can stay home and keep Mommy company."
The two little ones were very well-behaved. At the hospital, they busily helped Scarlett pour water, hand her tissues, and do other little things.
Scarlett felt deeply touched watching the children being so thoughtful.
Scarlett was discharged and went back to Lakeside Garden. Ambrose had suggested going back to Silver Oak Heights, but since all of Scarlett's daily necessities were at Lakeside Garden, they went back to Lakeside Garden instead.
After Ambrose took Scarlett home, he went back to the company. With the investigation from above, company affairs, and the Indigo issue all piling up, he was incredibly busy.
In particular, this incident led to a work stoppage ordered by the higher-ups, resulting in significant losses for the Boleyn Group. If this will not gonna be handled properly, this project could cause immeasurable damage to the Boleyn Group.
Since all four people were injured, the relevant authorities needed to question those involved.Scarlett was questioned the next afternoon at Lakeside Garden.
When people from the oversight department came to ask questions, Scarlett remained very calm. She even deliberately steered the conversation toward suggesting that someone had done this on purpose.
The investigation by the relevant authorities was slow and deliberate, as if they're trying to wear people down. Three days later, Ambrose tracked down the person responsible.
The person who sabotaged the elevator was indeed someone from the construction site. He claimed that he had been scolded by the foreman and held a grudge, which was why he did it.
But Ambrose felt things weren't that simple. After doing a background check on that person, he found an extra $200,000 in his account, coming from overseas.
Chase used special methods to get the worker to tell the truth. He had been hired by someone, but he didn't know who that person was. But since they paid him promptly and handsomely, he just carried out their instructions.
The account that made the payment was virtual, but Ambrose still had people find out who was behind it.
After the truth was fully revealed, a week went by. Ambrose reviewed the final investigation results Chase gave him, his face cold and unreadable.
After work, Ambrose went straight back to the Boleyn Manor. Before going, he called Cody ahead of time and asked him to keep Gage there too, saying he had something to discuss.
He walked through the door of the Boleyn Manor and headed to the living room, where Gage and Cody were already waiting.
Ambrose, looking furious, walked up to Gage and threw the investigation report in front of him, "Uncle Gage, explain, what were you trying to do with this?!"
Cody already knew about this. After Ambrose spoke, he said nothing and just looked at Gage.
"You've done plenty of scheming behind people's backs before. Whatever drove you to do it before, that’s exactly what drives me now."
"If I were plotting against you, do you think you'd be alive to sit here?"
Ambrose sat down in the chair across from Gage, his expression deadly serious.
"Everyone knows you're cold-hearted. Now that you're already the head of the Boleyn Family, you think you can do whatever you want and put my son in the business department. Why should he have to stay in the business department?"
"Based on Bodhi’s abilities, the business department is the only place he’s truly qualified for. If you’re not satisfied, let him prove what he can really do. I'd like to see what he's actually capable of."
"Don't act like you're the only capable one. Look at what you've done to the Boleyn Group now. You went against the Mitchell Family, and now the higher-ups have sent people to investigate the accounts. The company's stock price keeps falling. You've brought the company to this state just for a woman, so how are you any more capable than anyone else?" Gage seized on the Scarlett issue to attack Ambrose.
"So you joined forces with Indigo?" Ambrose sneered.
Gage's heart jumped, and he froze. "Don't make false accusations. I have no connection with the Mitchell Family. I did this just to show Cody what you're capable of."
"You caused an accident at the construction site and brought losses to the company just to show my capabilities?"
"Or should I say, you didn't do this alone. You and your son worked together, trying to pull me down and put Bodhi in the position of Family head?" Ambrose saw right through their intentions.
"You... what are you talking about? This has nothing to do with Bodhi."
Gage even started to stutter.
"If he wasn't involved, why are you so nervous?" Ambrose had just been speaking casually, but now Gage's reaction told him it really was father and son working together.
For a moment, Gage didn't know what to say.
"Looks like I've been too good to you, which is why you dared to do this behind me. I wasn't planning to be too harsh, but since it's come to this, I'll submit this investigation to the relevant authorities. You should wait for the law to deal with you."
