Chapter 268 Going to War with the Mitchell Family for Her
Ambrose paused what he was doing and looked up at her with a smile. "If Hayden hadn't refused, I would have refused naturally."
Scarlett shot him a look, cunning old fox.
Ambrose said, "It should be that Octavia got upset at school today, so Indigo thought to have Hayden go over to test the waters again."
Scarlett fell silent for two seconds before she spoke, "This can't go on like this."
"Are you worried about offending the Mitchell family because of the project, or is there another reason?"
"Is that how you see me?" Ambrose looked somewhat angry.
Scarlett remained unbothered. "Then why don't you have it out with them? With this leverage, the Mitchell family wouldn't dare make any rash moves."
"I told you before, I need to investigate the true motives of the father and daughter duo, and get evidence of their crimes."
Scarlett fell silent. She had obtained the evidence, should she tell him? But if she told him, and he asked where the evidence came from, how would she answer?
After giving it some thought, she decided to speak. "Vaughn got the evidence from back then. If you're not worried about the project, it doesn't matter if we confront them now. What Octavia did was illegal. With this leverage, they would be at our mercy, which would benefit you now too."
After Scarlett finished speaking, Ambrose looked at her in astonishment. "How did he get the evidence?"
Scarlett lowered her eyes, saying somewhat guiltily, "Vaughn didn't tell me. I guess he has his ways."
Ambrose didn't doubt her. After a moment of thought, he asked, "What happened back then?"
Scarlett had watched the video and said calmly, "Actually, it was just that Octavia tried to harm me, but she didn't expect the person she hired to put me in the wrong room which was yours. But as for how you were set up, and whether the Mitchell family was involved, that was not in the video."
Ambrose furrowed his brow. Put in the wrong room, he was quite surprised.
"How were you set up?" Scarlett asked.
Ambrose set down his knife and fork. Since Scarlett discovered Hayden's true parentage, this was the first time the two of them had discussed what happened back then.
His expression was calm as he said, "Someone slipped something into my drink at the table. Later investigation showed it was done by a business rival, but as for how you got into my room, the surveillance footage had been tampered with beforehand. Later, when Octavia showed up with the child, I realized the Mitchell family might have been involved, but I had no proof, so I set it aside. After I got custody of the child, I thought I'd investigate slowly."
"If what you said was correct, it should have been a coincidence. The Mitchell family wasn't involved in setting me up. They probably just took advantage of the situation and came up with this identity-theft scheme."
Scarlett thought that was possible too. After all, the Mitchell family wanted to harm her by making her give birth to a child with an unknown father, her life would have been ruined, especially since she was still married at the time.
"The Mitchell family is truly vicious to the extreme." She never imagined Octavia could be malicious enough to device such a destructive method.
It showed the darkness in her heart was beyond imagination.
Ambrose looked at Scarlett. "Actually, my original intention was to bring Indigo down. Going after Octavia now, given Indigo's current position, it would be difficult to make Octavia face legal consequences."
"Last time's incident was a perfect example."
Scarlett knew this too. She had also planned to wait until she had leverage on Indigo, then use Octavia's situation to take them all down at once. But as she watched them set their sights on Hayden, she couldn't stay calm.
"Getting leverage on Indigo is really difficult!" Scarlett sighed.
Ambrose's eyes darkened. "I'll find a way, but you need to stay patient first. As for Hayden, I naturally won't allow him to be harm."
Scarlett looked up at him in surprise. He wanted to go after the Mitchell family, just as a businessman, could he compete with them?
When it came down to it, this was her grudge with the Mitchell family.
Before, he dealt with the Mitchell family to find evidence. Now that he knew the Mitchell family wasn't involved in setting him up, why should he wade into these murky waters?
Her expression turned serious. "You don't need to get involved in going after the Mitchell family."
Ambrose's brow furrowed slightly, his tone displeased.
"We're in the same boat now, what do you mean I don't need to? Setting that aside, given the bad blood between Indigo and me, do you think he'll let the Boleyn Group off? I'm not the type to sit around waiting for disaster."
She looked at him without speaking. He talked about them being in the same boat, but really, he'd forced that connection. But when he mentioned his conflict with Indigo, she couldn't deny it.
Because of her, he'd already made an enemy of Indigo.
Even if she wanted to cut ties with him now, it wouldn't be that easy. There are two children, she couldn't make things that ugly between them.
Fine, she'd take it one step at a time.
"Don't overthink it. Just let Octavia be happy for a few days. When the time is right, we'll use her as the weak point to bring Indigo down in one move."
"Let's eat."
After they finished eating, they returned to the company.
Ambrose was very busy, and Scarlett needed to get back to work. On the way back, Ambrose mentioned something.
"Grandfather wants you to come to the Boleyn Manor for dinner on Saturday."
Cody's invitation for her to have dinner at the Boleyn Manor had been mentioned before their conflict, and had been put off until now.
Scarlett hadn't wanted to go back then, and now she had even less inclination, so she declined.
"I have something to do on Saturday. Let's talk about it later."
This excuse was clearly a brush-off, and Ambrose knew it, but he didn't call her out on it.
He silently accepted her answer.
The matter of changing partners for Serene Bay Peninsula had pretty much been settled, now all that was left was signing the contract.
The partner for Serene Bay Peninsula changed from the Mitchell Group to the Anderson Group.
Changing partners naturally required signing a new cooperation agreement. The signing of this agreement was scheduled for July third.
That day, Caspian arrived at the Boleyn Group building at nine-thirty. After his group got out of the car, they walked toward the building with hurried steps and serious expressions.
As soon as Scarlett stepped out of the elevator, she came face to face with Caspian and his entourage waiting for the elevator.
"Ms. Mellon." Caspian spoke first.
Scarlett stepped out of the elevator and stopped, looking at him with a smile. "Mr. Anderson."
Caspian walked up to her. "Are you heading out?"
Scarlett noticed his eyes were still as bright and clear as glass, and she smiled in response.
"Yes, to the construction site."
"Congratulations on securing the Serene Bay Peninsula project." Scarlett still offered her congratulations.
Caspian smiled with refined elegance. "Thank you."
The Anderson Group executives were all waiting in the elevator for Caspian, and Scarlett tactfully said, "I won't take up any more of your time. We can talk by phone later if there's anything."
Caspian nodded. "I'll head up first then. We'll be in touch."
She watched the elevator doors slowly close, thinking that Caspian taking over the Mitchell Group's share must mean he was working for Indigo now.
Indigo had no one else available right now, and since Caspian was Indigo's nephew, naturally, he'd turn to him.
Ulysses had been completely abandoned by Indigo at this point, so would Caspian eventually end up with the same fate?
