Chapter 254 Do Not Want to Pay Attention to Him Anymore
Ruben was busy, so Briar couldn't get him to come out. After some indirect probing, she found out that Ruben wasn't with Ambrose, so she told Scarlett.
Scarlett thought for a moment, then sent Ambrose a message.
[The school has a parent-child activity in a couple of days. Parents are required to attend.]
Using the kids as an excuse - the perfect way to test him.
Scarlett lay in bed waiting for a reply.
Suddenly, she felt the bed was so empty.
She used to sleep alone too, but never felt this way before.
The past few nights, both kids had squeezed in to sleep with her. Besides the children, Ambrose had been there too, though he didn't always sleep here. So why did she feel so empty now?
Suddenly, her phone rang. Ambrose had replied.
[When is it?]
She paused before responding: [This Friday morning, starting at ten.]
Though she was anxious inside, she couldn't let him see it, or he'd think she was really worried.
This time, he replied quickly. [I'll clear my schedule.]
Scarlett looked at the reply, thinking. From his response, he should still be out. Being out this late - was he at a business dinner?
The next second, Ambrose sent another message.
[Why aren't you asleep yet?]
Seeing that he brought it up, Scarlett tested the waters: [You're not asleep either, are you?]
After sending it, she waited to see if he'd reply again, but he didn't. She tossed her phone aside. Damn it, bringing up the topic, then just dropping it.
She didn't want to deal with him anymore.
Scarlett buried her face in her pillow, taking a deep breath. Suddenly, she felt awful inside. Why was she becoming like this, so anxious and insecure?
It was all Ambrose's fault. If he hadn't said he wanted to be her boyfriend, she wouldn't have gotten invested, wouldn't have ended up like this.
She was only upset for two days, and he just disappeared without a word. Too much.
Another message from Ambrose came.
"I'm still out, about to head back.]
Scarlett still picked up her phone to look. After reading it, she decided not to respond.
Scarlett didn't reply, but two more messages came in quick succession.
[Asleep?]
[Still mad at me?]
Scarlett simply put it on silent. If she couldn't hear it, she wouldn't think so much about it.
But that night, Scarlett slept terribly. Her dreams were bizarre and chaotic, then she woke up from them and couldn't fall back asleep.
Scarlett picked up her phone at 5:30 in the morning.
Then she saw Ambrose's messages from last night. After glancing at them, she tossed her phone aside.
She couldn't let a man make her neglect her career. Who needs a man anyway? Living with her child wasn't perfectly fine?
Men just made her worry. Not worth it at all.
She got up and left her room. The guest room still had no sign of Ambrose.
Scarlett completely gave up hope and stopped thinking about it. She went to the kitchen to make breakfast.
After dropping the kids off at school, Scarlett went to work. Following her usual routine, after having a cup of coffee, she headed straight to the construction site.
Last time, because of the bribery incident, construction had stopped for a few days. After it resumed, progress had been delayed, so now she had to stay on site to catch up with the schedule.
Scarlett received a call from Finnian at the construction site. Finnian invited her to dinner. When the time came, she rushed to the restaurant.
"Finnian, you're so early." Scarlett entered the private room and saw Finnian waiting.
"I just got here." Finnian smiled.
Scarlett sat across from him. Finnian handed her the menu, asking what she wanted to eat. Scarlett casually ordered two dishes.
While waiting for the food, they chatted casually.
That night, when she and Ambrose celebrated their relationship, Finnian hadn't come, so Scarlett wanted to treat him to a meal separately.
"Scarlett, congratulations!"
This congratulations, Scarlett naturally knew, referred to her and Ambrose. She smiled slightly, "Thanks!"
"I hope you can find someone you like soon too," she said.
Finnian raised his eyebrows and smiled nonchalantly. "You know me - since I have no chance with you, I'll just wait. Wait until there's someone suitable."
Finnian was straightforward, never putting any pressure on Scarlett.
Scarlett smiled bitterly. She had no way to Reciprocate Finnian's pure affection.
"Don't overthink it. Actually, it's my fault too. If I'd expressed my feelings earlier, Wesley wouldn't have had a chance, you wouldn't have gone through what happened later, and Ambrose wouldn't have been in the picture either." Finnian's words were honest and straightforward.
Scarlett never dwelled on hypotheticals, so she just smiled it off.
"Finnian, can we still be good friends from now on?" She asked.
She really didn't want any awkwardness with Finnian. She hoped this friendship could remain unchanged.
"Of course. If we can't be lovers, being friends is pretty good too." Finnian smiled.
Hearing this, Scarlett felt the pressure lift.
Finnian then brought up Scarlett's bribery case, saying that if anything came up, she could contact Kieran, because he wouldn't be in Silverlight City for a while.
"Finnian, are you going abroad?" That's what Scarlett thought, because Finnian had returned to the country for her. Now that she had a new relationship, did he feel hopeless and want to go abroad again?
Finnian shook his head. "No, I'm going back to Sunrise City."
Scarlett knew his family was from Sunrise City. He was going home. "Did something happen with your family?"She asked with concern.
"Something came up at home, but it's nothing serious."
Hearing this, Scarlett felt relieved.
Their lunch was quite pleasant.
After lunch, as they came out of the private room, they unexpectedly ran into Octavia at the elevator. Octavia was with several women, clearly friends out for a gathering.
Seeing Octavia, Scarlett thought of her kidnapping Hayden, and anger surged up.
But now wasn't the time to act. She'd wait until she got evidence of them framing her, then combine it with evidence of Octavia kidnapping the child to take down the Mitchell family.
Octavia also saw Scarlett. She wore a smug smile, as if saying, "So what if I hired someone to kill you? What can you do about it?"
Scarlett glanced at her smug face, pretending not to see, waiting to the side and chatting quietly with Finnian.
"So you and Ambrose are Seeing people separately. No wonder there's another woman around Ambrose. Now I understand."
As Octavia spoke, her eyes kept darting back and forth between Scarlett and Finnian.
Though Scarlett was puzzled about another woman being around Ambrose, she still sneered coldly, "How we are is none of your business."
Octavia was scolded but didn't get angry, just smiled.
"Don't be upset. I just wanted to tell you, Ambrose has another woman. Last night, he was with her."
Scarlett glanced at her coldly, her look intimidating, but Octavia wasn't afraid. She took out her phone and held it in front of her.
"Look, I'm not stirring up trouble."
Scarlett was about to physically confront Octavia, but her eyes involuntarily glanced at the phone. Sure enough, she saw a woman sitting next to Ambrose - clearly at a dinner table.
"This woman is a real socialite. They match well in status and every other way. Even if he doesn't choose me, he won't choose you. The wife of the Boleyn family head must be a young lady from a prestigious family."
