Chapter 248 Passionate as Fire
In Ambrose's WhatsApp, there were quite a few company executives. As soon as the post was updated, everyone at the company instantly knew about their relationship.
That afternoon, Scarlett was making coffee in the break room when her colleague Vida came in. Seeing her, Vida approached with a friendly greeting.
"Ms. Mellon, congratulations! When you and Mr. Boleyn get married, I definitely want to attend your wedding!"
Scarlett was holding her cup when she heard this. She froze for two seconds before understanding why Vida said that.
Ambrose had posted on social media, and people at the company had seen it.
The news had spread faster than expected.
Though she wasn't sure if Vida was being sincere or not, Scarlett responded with a smile.
"If that day really comes, I'll definitely invite you."
Cleo and Echo walked in, and Echo made a fake, double-edged comment.
"Ms. Mellon, so the rumors were true - you and Mr. Boleyn were having a secret relationship!"
Scarlett pulled out coffee powder from the shelf and glanced at her coolly. "Rumors? What rumors?"
Echo had spread so many rumors about Scarlett behind her back. Now that they'd run into each other, it was time to settle both old and new scores.
Echo gave an awkward laugh. "Nothing really, just that you and Mr. Boleyn make a good match, things like that."
"A good match, or that I came between him and someone else?" Scarlett cut straight to the point.
Echo looked momentarily shocked, then shook her head in panic. "I never said that. Don't listen to other people's nonsense."
Scarlett calmly pulled out her phone from her pocket and played a recording. "Listen to this. Whose voice is this?"
Echo's sharp, bitter voice filled the break room.
"What's Scarlett got to be proud of? Mr. Boleyn is just playing around with her. Ms. Mitchell is the mayor's daughter - how could Mr. Boleyn possibly choose Scarlett over her?"
"Ms. Mitchell even came to the company. She must be here to confront her. This is going to be good. I heard Scarlett's been flirting with Ms. Mitchell's brother while also getting involved with Mr. Boleyn. Ms. Mitchell couldn't take it anymore."
Echo's face fell. Who had recorded her words? When she'd said these things, everyone around her had disliked Scarlett too. They'd actually betrayed her.
"Ms. Bell, I don't know what I did to offend you that you'd badmouth me like this behind my back," Scarlett demanded angrily.
Echo couldn't say a word. With this evidence, explanations were useless.
Looking at Scarlett's icy expression, she bit her lip timidly and looked wronged, as if she were the one being slandered.
"Ms. Bell, why are you acting wronged? Did someone force you to say those things?" Cleo said sarcastically.
Vida chimed in, "Ms. Bell always has that expression. Whether it's her fault or someone else's, she always acts like she's been terribly wronged."
The two of them exposed Echo's act. Echo looked embarrassed and finally dropped the victim act to apologize sincerely to Scarlett.
Echo had been badmouthing Scarlett behind her back for a long time. Scarlett had held back until now, but she wasn't going to let it go anymore. Today, she would get to the bottom of this.
"You've been maliciously slandering me behind my back. Do you want the company to handle this, or settle it privately?" she asked.
Seeing that Scarlett wasn't going to let this slide easily, Echo chose the better option - settling it privately.
If this got to company leadership, given Scarlett's current position, Echo would definitely come out worse. She might even get kicked out of the Boleyn Group.
Scarlett demanded that Echo apologize to her in the company-wide group chat. Echo had no choice but to accept.
When Scarlett got off work, she saw Echo's apology. She didn't comment in the group, but saw others condemning Echo.
She understood - because Ambrose had made their relationship public, people were now taking her side.
So her change in status had elevated her position at the company too.
How realistic.
After work, Scarlett drove to pick up the two kids. Her damaged car was still being repaired, so Ambrose had given her his Porsche from the garage to drive.
She didn't really want to drive such an expensive car, but having no car was very inconvenient, so she used it for now.
After picking up the two little ones, she headed toward Lakeside Garden. Whether the car was too nice or she was driving too slowly, a car behind suddenly sped up, cutting her off as it passed.
Scarlett hit the brakes in fright. That car stopped too, and a man, Tobias Reynolds, got out and swaggered over to Scarlett's car, knocking on the window.
Things had been unsettled lately, so Scarlett thought it was another troublemaker. She didn't dare open the door, only rolling the window halfway down.
Tobias was talking when he saw Scarlett's face. His eyes went blank, and he froze.
"What do you want?" Scarlett asked.
Tobias snapped back to reality. His impatient expression immediately changed to a smile. "I was driving too fast just now. Are you okay?"
Scarlett had expected trouble, but this was the situation instead. She said coolly that she was fine.
But Tobias didn't leave. Instead, he said, "Beautiful lady, leave me your contact info. If you find anything wrong with your car when you get home, you can contact me anytime. I'll cover the costs."
Scarlett immediately understood - this was his way of asking for her contact information. She'd seen this kind of thing plenty of times. Just as she was about to send him away, she heard a fierce voice.
"What's your name? I'll have my dad come find you."
It was Hayden in the back seat, glaring at the man. Tobias's gaze swept over, and he saw the two little ones in back. He froze.
Scarlett didn't want to deal with him and rolled up the window.
But Tobias wasn't going to leave without getting her contact information. He'd never seen such a beautiful woman. Even though she had kids, that didn't stop him from wanting her.
The bodyguards following Scarlett and her children stepped forward, and before long, Scarlett was able to drive away.
She didn't give the incident much thought.
That evening, when Ambrose came home, it was already 10:30. The two little ones were asleep, so they had to stay at Lakeside Garden.
After Ambrose showered, he got into bed and pulled her close. Scarlett looked up at him.
"Girlfriend, is that looking inviting me to make love?" Ambrose teased her.
Scarlett thought he really couldn't go a sentence without mentioning sex. Why could he seem so calm on the surface but be so lustful deep down?
"Be serious," she said.
"I am being serious." He said this with a straight face, but his hands wandered over her body restlessly.
Scarlett held his hand. "Today, I dealt with Echo."
Ryder had already reported this to Ambrose.
"Well done. From now on, if you don't like someone, don't hold back. If anything happens, I've got your back." He lowered his head to kiss her.
Before, Owen had been her support. After Owen's incident, no one had her back anymore. Now Ambrose was saying he'd support her.
She couldn't control the emotion in her heart. She wrapped her arms around his neck and said sweetly.
"You're so good to me, I'll get addicted. If one day you're not by my side anymore, I won't be used to it."
Ambrose's face turned cold. "There you go, being silly again. We just got together, and you're already saying unlucky things."
Scarlett heard this and laughed. "Didn't you not believe in these things? Why are you talking about bad luck now?"
Looking at her smiling face, he couldn't look away. He rubbed his nose against hers. "You infected me with it. You have to take responsibility."
"If you're taking responsibility, stop attracting attention when you're out."
Scarlett guessed he was talking about what happened on the road today, so she blamed it on the Porsche. The car was too nice - it attracted jealousy and caused trouble.
Ambrose said from now on, bodyguards would drive her around.
Scarlett disagreed. She insisted on driving herself. She pleaded for a long time, even using her charms to seduce him, before Ambrose reluctantly agreed.
That night, Scarlett was passionate as fire. The consequence was that the next day, her whole body ached.
