Chapter 224 Good Morning Kiss
Scarlett said dismissively, "Did Hayden tell you that I got these dark circles from having nightmares?"
Ambrose's slender fingers touched her face as he said with certainty, "Even if it was a nightmare, it must have been one with me in it."
Seeing how confident he was, Scarlett found it amusing. He didn't even know what her nightmare was about, yet he dared to claim that. If he knew her so-called nightmare was about the villain from the night she lost her virginity, would he still dare to say such things?
She moved her hand from his neck and hit his chest. "Being overconfident will come back to bite you."
"Then tell me, how am I being overconfident?" He pressed on.
At this moment, Scarlett didn't want to talk about those things. Although her earlier desire had been distracted by the conversation, she still felt pretty upset inside. So she leaned against his chest and said in an extremely low voice.
"I don't want to talk about those upsetting things. Are you sure you don't want to have sex?"
Their bodies pressed tightly together. Ambrose felt she was more compliant than ever before, as if looking for something to lean on. Instinctively, he wrapped his arms around her, her soft body intimately pressed against his chest.
In this moment, it felt peaceful and warm.
He lowered his head and kissed her forehead. "I do, but not right now. You just had a close call with death, you need to rest properly. When you're feeling better, if you want to, just call me anytime."
His voice was particularly pleasant, like a lover's gentle whisper.
At this moment, Scarlett felt something overflowing in her heart. She didn't pay much attention to it, just listened to his strong heartbeat and gradually calmed down.
"You're very tired tonight, rest well." He kissed her while coaxing her.
"Okay." She responded softly.
Whether it was his heartbeat or his body warmth, it made her feel alive. As the tension in her heart released, she quickly fell into a deep sleep.
Ambrose held her until he felt her breathing change and realized she had fallen asleep.
Her reaction tonight must have been from being frightened, otherwise she wouldn't be so compliant as to let him hold her like this.
Although he got to hold her this way, he didn't like seeing her in this state. He'd rather she be as difficult as usual and see her happy instead.
When they arrived at Lakeside Garden, Scarlett showed no signs of waking up. If he moved, he would definitely wake her, so Ambrose just sat in the car.
Ambrose's car was spacious, and when the seats were reclined flat, it became a bed.
He planned to spend the night in the car, letting her sleep and get over the car accident.
In the deep of night, his phone on the car window vibrated. Although it was on silent, the vibration was obvious in this quiet, confined space.
Ambrose, holding her, freed one hand to grab his phone. On the blue screen was Ruben's name. Without hesitation, he pressed the answer.
"Go ahead." His voice was very low.
Ruben, on the other end, understood immediately and got straight to the point, "The truck driver didn't make it, he's dead."
In the darkness, Ambrose's eyes darkened. With the person dead, the investigation would become very tricky.
Tonight, according to Scarlett's account, this wasn't an accident but premeditated murder. Who wanted to kill her, it was clear without guessing that it was the Mitchell family's doing.
But they needed evidence, and with the driver dead, the evidence was gone.
Ruben continued, "Next, we'll investigate the driver's social background. Anyone who's been in contact with him, we'll definitely find them."
"Alright, you do your thing on your end, I'll make my own arrangements here."
Scarlett heard the voice and mumbled without opening her eyes, "Ambrose, why haven't you gone back?"
Ruben naturally heard this and chuckled mischievously.
"Ambrose, I won't disturb you anymore."
Ruben hung up first. Ambrose then put his phone aside and reached out to gently pat her back.
"I'll leave in a bit, you just sleep."
Scarlett gradually fell back asleep, so Ambrose spent the night in the car holding Scarlett.
The next day, sunlight from outside the car window fell on the woman's face inside. The intensity of the light immediately woke Scarlett up.
She raised her hand to block the sunlight, and in the next second, opened her eyes to find herself in an unfamiliar environment. Looking more carefully, she realized she was in the car.
She also felt a furnace-like warmth beside her. Turning her head, she saw Ambrose's quiet and handsome face.
After gathering her thoughts, she understood.
Last night, she had fallen asleep in the car, and Ambrose hadn't woken her but had slept in the car with her all night.
He didn't wake her because he was afraid of disturbing her sleep when they got back, right?
She didn't expect him to be so thoughtful.
Last night, pressed against his chest, she had fallen asleep very quickly, and throughout the entire night, she hadn't slept restlessly because of the car accident. Instead, last night was the best sleep she'd had.
Undeniably, it was because of him that she could sleep so peacefully.
Last night, listening to his heartbeat, she had fallen asleep quickly.
It was all because of him. Did that mean he was becoming more and more important to her?
"You're awake." Ambrose opened his eyes and caught Scarlett looking at him, couldn't help but smile.
Scarlett stared at him for a long while, then said, "Good morning."
"Good morning." He lowered his head to give her a good morning kiss.
If it were before, Scarlett would definitely have refused with the excuse of not having brushed her teeth, but this time, she didn't. She even responded to him. After kissing for a while, Ambrose said.
"Should we continue what we didn't finish last night?"
