Chapter 217 Thought You Were His Mother
Even though Hayden saw the tears in Octavia's eyes, it didn't move him at all. He sat down impatiently and only called out to Ambrose.
"Dad, I don't want to eat with you guys."
After saying this, worried that Octavia might target Scarlett, he added in a sweet childlike voice, "Scarlett didn't do anything to me. I saw her eating here and ran over myself."
Hayden's actions once again won Scarlett's heart. Hayden was truly an angel sent from heaven to heal her.
Seeing this, Ambrose finally spoke up, "Ms. Mitchell, let Hayden eat here!"
Octavia didn't want to admit defeat, but Hayden refused to leave with her, and Ambrose had said as much. No matter how unwilling she was, she could only hold back.
She glared at Scarlett hatefully. "Ms. Mellon, shouldn't you explain what you meant by saying I'm not sincere with the child? Slandering me in front of the child like this is shameful."
Octavia's relentless attitude made Scarlett turn her head and laugh lightly. "Don't insult the word 'slander.'"
Hearing this, Octavia was about to explode when Ambrose threw out a cold remark.
"Ms. Mitchell, watch yourself."
Octavia heard the warning in Ambrose's words. Looking at him, she grew anxious about the sudden change in attitude this father and son had toward Scarlett. She could only suppress her anger and ask him.
"So you're letting the child eat here?"
"Can you convince him to leave?" Ambrose asked coldly.
Having no choice, Octavia left reluctantly. But Ambrose didn't leave immediately—he looked at Scarlett instead.
Scarlett said, "Hayden doesn't want to go eat, so take him back."
Hearing that Scarlett wanted to send him away, Hayden immediately looked up. "Are you trying to get rid of me because I'm bothering you?"
Scarlett was stunned.
"I'm starving, and you won't even let me eat," Hayden accused.
Having no choice, Scarlett had to call the waiter to bring another serving of food.
Watching this, Ambrose's lips curved slightly. "Wait for me after you finish eating. We'll go back together."
After Ambrose left, Scarlett looked apologetically at Caspian.
"Mr. Anderson, I'm really sorry. I invited you to dinner, but we ran into this situation."
Caspian smiled. "I should be the one apologizing. That's just how Octavia is."
"She's she, and you're you."
Hayden, who had been eating with his head down, looked up with wide eyes at Caspian. Caspian looked back at him, seeing the wariness in his eyes, and smiled.
"Do you know what you should call me?"
Hayden snorted. "I don't want to know."
Scarlett quickly said to him, "Hayden, be polite."
Since Octavia was a replacement, she hadn't taught Hayden to call Caspian uncle according to the Mitchell family's generational hierarchy.
Hayden acted as if he hadn't heard and continued eating his food. Scarlett was helpless and could only smile at Caspian.
"He's just a kid, it's okay."
With a child present, Scarlett wasn't as relaxed as before. She kept adding food to his plate, wiping his mouth, and occasionally telling him not to eat too fast.
This made Caspian laugh. "Anyone who didn't know would think you were his mother."
Scarlett laughed too. "I have a child myself, so I'm used to doing this."
"Your child is really lucky," Caspian said with a smile tinged with envy.
Scarlett noticed the expression in Caspian's eyes, but didn't want to guess at it.
She just said, "About that girl you mentioned earlier, it probably wasn't me. If I'd met you before, I would definitely remember."
Caspian looked at her. "Did you ever go to Maplewood when you were little?"
Scarlett thought for a moment. "When I was around ten, I think I did go there."
Caspian's eyes lit up. "Did you give a little boy a piece of bread at the base of a tower in Maplewood?"
Hearing this, Scarlett certainly remembered and said in disbelief, "You're that little boy?"
Caspian nodded. Scarlett was surprised.
Seeing him nod, Scarlett's eyes widened in shock. That dirty little boy from back then was actually Caspian?
Although she was young, she could still clearly remember what happened when she was ten.
In Maplewood, she had encountered a thin little boy stealing something. The shopkeeper was chasing and hitting him. She heard his accent and guessed he was from Aetheria like herself. Out of sympathy, she paid for the item and gave him some money, telling him not to steal.
Who would have thought that was the refined and elegant Caspian standing before her now?
How could the heir of the Anderson family have ended up in such a situation?
There must have been some misfortune involved, but Scarlett didn't ask. After all, everyone has their own story.
"You told me to find my family and not to steal. I still remember it to this day."
Scarlett smiled slightly. "Actually, it was just a small gesture on my part, nothing worth mentioning."
"Though it was a small gesture to you, to me it was a light that illuminated my life. You were truly a light to me back then. If you hadn't helped me that time, I might have given up completely."
At this point, Caspian smiled slightly. "So when I saw you at the golf course last time, I felt you looked familiar, but I couldn't be sure. That's why I asked for your contact information."
