Chapter 17 Relationships
The next day, news of Ambrose blacklisting The Ross Group spread like wildfire through Silverlight City's business circles. Wesley was frantically searching for Scarlett.
But Scarlett hadn't come to the office today.
"Mr. Ross, I think Scarlett has quit. She didn't even bother to show up or call in," Bianca said, standing in Wesley's office.
Her desire to get Scarlett out of the company was practically written across her face as she seized the opportunity to badmouth her.
Wesley paced back and forth irritably, waving his hand in anger. "What good is talking about this? Contact her immediately and tell her to come back."
Bianca wore a troubled expression. "I just tried calling her, but her phone's off. We could go to her place, but the company doesn't have her address on file."
To conceal their marriage, Scarlett hadn't left any personal information at the company.
Wesley stopped pacing and leaned on his desk with both hands, snapping impatiently, "Fine, just get out."
Seeing his mood, Bianca didn't dare say anything more and left reluctantly.
Afterward, Wesley took out his phone and dialed Scarlett's number. Sure enough, it was turned off.
Scarlett really had nerve. She could get Ambrose to blacklist The Ross Group, but he wasn't going to sit back and take it. He refused to believe his abilities couldn't match hers.
He dialed Aiden's number. When there was no answer on the first try, he called again. This time, Aiden picked up.
"Disturbing someone's beauty sleep at the crack of dawn—you tired of living?" Aiden's angry voice came through as soon as the call connected.
"Mr. Smith, I apologize. This is Wesley. I have an urgent matter and had no choice but to disturb you."
"Well, if it isn't Mr. Ross. Calling me so early—ready to transfer that compensation payment?" Aiden's tone was mocking.
After Ambrose's suggestion, he had demanded breach of contract penalties from The Ross Group following Scarlett's blacklisting.
"Mr. Smith, regarding the penalties, I'll definitely pay once I get through this difficult period. For now, I need your help."
"Help with what?"
"I'm arranging a meeting and would appreciate it if you could help me invite Mr. Boleyn to attend."
Wesley quickly added, "Rest assured, Mr. Smith, there will be something in it for you once this succeeds."
"Something for me? What could you possibly offer that would interest me?" Aiden asked indifferently.
"Once this is settled, Scarlett will be yours."
"Mr. Ross, are you insulting me?" Aiden's tone instantly turned sinister.
This sudden change made Wesley immediately realize his mistake. Aiden probably looked down on Scarlett for being previously married and having a child. He quickly changed his approach.
"I was being foolish. A woman like Scarlett isn't worthy of Mr. Smith."
"You should stop fixating on Scarlett altogether. If you make the wrong move, you might not even know what hit you."
Wesley agreed with this assessment, nodding vigorously.
"I can try contacting Mr. Boleyn for you, but I can't guarantee he'll come. As for what's in it for me, we'll discuss that after he arrives."
"I'll await your news, Mr. Smith."
Aiden hung up immediately. Wesley clutched his phone, his heart uneasy. If Aiden couldn't get Ambrose to come, the situation would be impossible to salvage.
Scarlett was nothing but bad luck.
Despite his anger, he still needed to contact her, but Scarlett's phone remained switched off. Wesley punched the wall in frustration.
While he was losing his temper, Delta called. He composed himself before answering.
"Wesley, everyone's talking about how Ambrose blacklisted your company. Is it because of that, Scarlett?" Delta's sweet voice came through the phone.
"Yes. She used Ambrose to sign a contract, and when he blacklisted her, she shifted the blame to the company. So now Ambrose has turned against us. I'm trying to arrange a meeting with him to explain everything clearly. Don't worry."
"I told you to fire her, but you didn't. Now look what's happened—you've been dragged into this mess," Delta scolded.
Delta had been wanting Scarlett gone for a while, concerned that Wesley might develop feelings for the beautiful woman.
Wesley was already stressed enough and tried to control his impatience. "She'll definitely be fired, but if she leaves before this is resolved, my company will still take the fall. Once I meet with Ambrose and explain everything personally, I'll make sure she's kicked out of the company."
Wesley's ruthless tone dispelled Delta's doubts, and she urged. "Then hurry up and find Ambrose!"
"You think Ambrose is someone you can just meet whenever you want? I'm working on setting up a meeting."
"Let my father help you!"
Wesley's eyes lit up with hope. "Your father knows Mr. Boleyn?"
Delta's proud tone came through. "My family is related to Ambrose. He was at a gathering with my father just yesterday. If my father steps in, Ambrose will definitely meet with you."
Wesley was shocked. Did the Powell family had such a connection with Ambrose? This could certainly help resolve the issue Scarlett had created.
"Delta, you're an angel from heaven, rescuing me in my time of need." When happy, Wesley's sweet talk flowed freely.
Delta was delighted by his flattery. "Such a smooth talker."
After a few more exchanges, they hung up. Wesley's worries eased.
Ten minutes later, Delta called back to say Ambrose had agreed to meet that evening at the Four Seasons Hotel.
Wesley was overjoyed, increasingly convinced that the Powell family's relationship with Ambrose was extraordinary.
With such connections, the problem would surely be solved.
Wesley immediately called Aiden to tell him not to contact Ambrose. Aiden, having already heard from Ambrose that Wesley had enlisted the Powell family's help, was quite displeased.
"Mr. Ross, you asked me to contact Mr. Boleyn, then went to the Powell family. Do you think little of me?"
"Mr. Smith, I'm nothing compared to you. It's impossible that I'd look down on you. Actually, my girlfriend Delta found out about the situation and took the initiative to help. I had no idea her family had relatives in common with Mr. Boleyn, otherwise, I wouldn't have been asking around for help."
He couldn't afford to offend Aiden, who had established roots in Silverlight City, while Wesley himself had only been there for a few years. He needed to maintain friendly relations.
"I see. You're lucky then. The Powell family does have a good relationship with Mr. Boleyn. He might not have agreed to meet if I asked, but he certainly would for the Powell family."
Wesley was secretly delighted but maintained a calm demeanor as he probed further. "Mr. Smith, what exactly is the relationship between the Powell family and Mr. Boleyn?"
"I've heard Mrs. Powell is Mr. Boleyn's aunt."
Aiden chuckled. "Hold on tight to the Powell family's little princess. You'll have plenty of opportunities for success in the future."
After hanging up with Aiden, Wesley's mind was racing.
Delta and Ambrose were actually cousins? If he stayed with Delta, how could his company's future be anything but bright?
At seven that evening, Wesley arrived early at the luxury private room in the Four Seasons Hotel.
"Wesley, don't be nervous. My father has already sounded out Mr. Boleyn. He's just angry because Scarlett provoked him, and he wants to cut off her career prospects. Just explain things clearly when he arrives," Delta whispered, coaching him.
Wesley listened attentively, nodding.
Delta's father, Mason Powell, finished his phone call and walked back. Wesley immediately stood up to pour water for Mason.
"That designer from your company—where is she now?" Mason asked, looking at Wesley.
Wesley set down the water pitcher and sat down, respectfully answering Mason's question.
"She's hiding at home, afraid to come to the company. Once this blows over, I'll make her leave the company."
Mason picked up his water glass and, before drinking, said, "An employee who can bring trouble to the company at any time cannot be kept."
"Understood," Wesley nodded in agreement.
