Chapter 169 Using the Plan Against Them
Scarlett took a firm stance, and Rhys had no choice but to apologize in front of everyone.
After that, Scarlett's influence grew even stronger, and no one dared to badmouth her behind her back anymore.
News of Scarlett's actions naturally reached Ambrose. When he heard about it, he gave a faint smile, she certainly wasn't weak in the workplace.
Sometimes, he wished she would be a bit more vulnerable, so he'd have a chance to step in. She didn't give him even the slightest opportunity to help her.
During this period, Ambrose was very busy. Ever since meeting with the Mitchell family, higher-ups kept sending signals his way. Though nothing major, he still needed to handle them. Plus, there was the Serene Bay Peninsula project, which was at its most critical stage. He was so busy that they hadn't seen each other for several days.
For lunch, Ambrose planned to eat in his office and asked Scarlett to join him, but she had already made plans with Cleo and couldn't have lunch with him.
Just then, Cody called, asking Ambrose to come back to the Boleyn Manor, so he went there for lunch instead.
When he arrived at the Boleyn Manor, Jett quickly ordered the meal to be served. At the dining table, Gage was also there. The atmosphere was calm, with no one speaking.
After lunch, Cody called Ambrose into the study. Right off the bat, Cody said, "Has there been more going on at the company lately?"
Ambrose replied casually, "There's always a lot going on at the company. Nothing surprising about that."
"But it's different from the usual stuff."
Ambrose understood—Cody must have learned something. He didn't hide it and spoke frankly.
"It's just some small moves from Indigo. I can handle it."
Cody sighed. "Ambrose, Indigo just took office. He definitely needs to establish his authority, and he's deliberately directing these troubles toward the Boleyn Group. Of course, I know he's targeting you."
"It's fine. I can deal with it. Besides, I'm prepared. If he dares to make a move, I'll strike back." Ambrose was full of fighting spirit, looking fearless.
Cody saw through his thoughts and said, "Even if you strike back, you won't hurt him fundamentally. As long as he's in that position, there's nothing you can do about him."
At this, he sighed again.
"This morning, Indigo called. Between the lines, he suggested you work with Ulysses to take on the Serene Bay Peninsula project together."
Ambrose's brow furrowed slightly. "He's really got some nerve!"
"He's actually using this tactic to test where you stand. Last time at dinner, you didn't give him any face at all. Who else would he go after if not you? Sometimes, there's no way around it. Ambrose, listen to my advice—take a step back for now and plan from there."
Ambrose fell silent, frowning. Indigo was now trying to force his hand with this method.
"With Hayden in the middle, they shouldn't go too far. As for Octavia, don't reject her outright. Talk things through calmly first. We'll deal with the future later."
Cody's meaning was clear—don't burn all bridges.
"Grandpa, Hayden isn't Octavia's biological son at all," Ambrose suddenly said.
Cody's expression changed immediately. "Then whose son is he?"
"Scarlett's."
Cody looked incredulous. Ambrose then laid out the key points of the whole story for him. After hearing it all, Cody was silent for a long while.
"The Mitchell family has had their eye on you since four years ago. Looks like they've been planning this all along. Who would have thought the Mitchell father and daughter could be so secretive? They are ruthlessly ambitious!"
Cody didn't express his feelings until a long time later, and his eyes suddenly became deep.
Ambrose said, "But they don't know that I've figured it out yet. Thank goodness you mentioned that day that Yara looked like my aunt, or I might never have discovered it. Otherwise, I would have been played by that father-daughter duo."
It seemed fate had helped them out.
"So what do you plan to do?"
"Fight fire with fire. Since they want me to work with Ulysses on that project, I might as well go along with it. I'll keep him stable for now, and when the time comes, I'll strike back." Ambrose's face was full of determination.
"Ambrose, this matter needs careful consideration; we must not be careless."
"And what about Scarlett? What are your plans there?" Cody suddenly asked.
"Now isn't the right time to tell her. Let's deal with the Mitchell family first. Hayden and I will keep our distance from her for now, so the Mitchell family won't give her trouble." Ambrose said.
Cody nodded, "Indeed, since Octavia is using Hayden, it means they have something they want to obtain. If you give them a little incentive, they should let their guard down."
The two discussed things in the study for quite a while. Only after they finished did Cody say, "Don't worry too much. I also know one or two people in even higher positions. Indigo can't control everything."
After leaving the study, Ambrose left directly. Once his car drove out of the Boleyn Manor, he called Ruben.
"How's your surveillance of Ulysses's fundraising going?"
Ruben quickly responded, "Ambrose, I'm keeping a close watch. They're going through the procedures now. Soon, they'll launch a project. Once the project is out, that's when you'll need to make your move. We need to make his project blow up so we can catch him red-handed."
Ambrose naturally understood this, but Ulysses had recruited so many capable people that making the project fail would be difficult. However, human nature is greedy—with the right tactics, there was still a chance to make them fail.
"Ambrose, I heard the Mitchell family is targeting you now. Can you hold up?" Ruben switched back to his casual tone.
Ambrose let out a slight sneer, "I've seen all kinds of storms. However, it will still take some time to first keep him steady."
"By the way, I heard Octavia gave you a son. Does that mean Hayden is hers?" Ruben asked curiously.
"Of course not." Ambrose didn't plan to tell Ruben the details, but he wouldn't confirm false information either.
"I knew it. Hayden's so adorable, how could he be Octavia's? Who started this rumor? When I find them, I'll teach them a lesson."
"Enough. When you're out there, act like you haven't heard anything. Don't argue about this—just go along with it."
Ruben was even more confused, but Ambrose didn't have time to explain. He just said they'd talk when they met in person. Ruben didn't press further and asked if he needed help.
The Lawson family's power was well-established. Even though Indigo was now mayor, the Lawson family was untouchable.
"Not for now. When I need it, I'll let you know."
After chatting a bit more, they hung up.
After hanging up, Ambrose asked Chase:
"How are things going with Xander?"
Chase replied, "The Mitchell family is still very cautious. We can't get anyone close to Indigo, but Xander has gotten close to Ulysses. Ulysses is looking for people with good skills right now, and Xander managed to get in."
"Tell him to be smart. Don't contact us unless it's something major."
"Got it."
Ambrose returned to the company. After getting back, he called Scarlett and asked her to come up to his office.
