Chapter 140 Onset

Chapter 140 Onset

When Scarlett saw Yara, her exhaustion lifted a bit. She reached out to hold Yara's little body, lowered her head to smell the milky scent on her, and replied softly.

"I'm back."

Hayden also came over, slowly walking to the mother and daughter's side. He sat down, opened his clear big eyes, and asked carefully.

"Scarlett, can I be your son?"

Scarlett froze, took a deep breath, looked up at Hayden, "But you have a mom!"

"But I want you to be my mom." Hayden blinked his bright eyes, very sincere.

Scarlett couldn't describe how she felt. Octavia's son wanted her to be his mom. If Octavia found out, she'd probably be furious.

Scarlett put Yara on the sofa beside her and turned to ask him: "Why do you want me to be your mom?"

"If I'm your son, I can live with you guys. I don't want to leave here with my dad." Hayden's eyes flashed with reluctance, making Scarlett's heart ache too, but thinking of Octavia, her heart hardened again.

"I'm not your real mom after all. You have a mom, and every child loves their own mom."

Scarlett gently refused. Hayden could tell. He lowered his head sadly, "So you don't like me. I thought you liked me."

As he spoke, he lowered his head and tears fell. When he raised his hand to wipe them, Scarlett felt bad, but not wanting to soften, she got up and left.

Yara, seeing this, had to move next to Hayden to comfort him.

"My mom doesn't dare agree because she's worried your mom will get angry. Why don't you ask your mom first? If she agrees, then you can tell my mom."

Hayden shook his head, "My business, I decide for myself."

With that, he ran to his room.

Yara sighed. There was nothing she could do either.

Yara then ran to find Scarlett. She planned to help Hayden.

Scarlett was in her room, sitting in a chair, holding her phone, fiddling with something. Yara walked up, climbed onto her lap, sat properly, tilted her head up, her eyes rolling around, and her little red lips opened.

"Mommy, Hayden was so sad just now!"

Scarlett looked down and glanced at Yara. The little thoughts in her big eyes were about to jump out. Scarlett smiled and asked her.

"Are you willing to let mommy hold him or love him?"

Deep down, Yara wanted to keep all of Scarlett to herself, but thinking about how nice it was when Ambrose became her dad, she nodded.

"I'll share a little bit of you with him, then Hayden's dad can come back more often."

Scarlett was stunned for two seconds and asked curiously: "How would that work?"

Yara said proudly: "Make Ambrose my godfather."

Scarlett was confused for a moment, then shocked. Yara actually had thoughts about Ambrose and wanted him to be her dad.

Ambrose had indeed been very caring toward Yara lately, playing the father role, but she and Ambrose had no future. She couldn't let Yara continue to be immersed in this fantasy. She had to put out this spark.

She looked down and asked: "Yara, didn't you not want him living here?"

Yara twisted her little body, her little fingers poking together, and said: "I was just a little unhappy seeing him take over your bed, but if he's willing to be my godfather, I can let him keep living here."

"Mommy, I agree he can sleep with you sometimes, but most of the time, you have to sleep with me."

Scarlett was speechless. Did Yara even know what sleeping together meant? She angrily raised her hand and tapped Yara's nose.

"Yara, adults sleeping together and kids sleeping together are completely different things."

Yara blinked innocently and murmured: "Ambrose said he likes you, so he sleeps with you. I like you too, so I sleep with you too."

Scarlett was at a loss for two seconds, then stated the fact: "Between adults, only husband and wife can sleep together."

Hearing this, Yara's eyes widened, then she said something that made Scarlett break out in a sweat.

"Then since you're already sleeping together, you can get married."

Scarlett's forehead broke out in sweat. "Yara, marriage isn't something you just do casually. If I get married, it will take away mommy's energy. Mommy won't be able to take care of you and love you wholeheartedly. I'll have to take care of other people and might neglect you and make you feel wronged. Mommy doesn't want that."

Yara didn't want Scarlett to neglect her or feel wronged. She fearfully hugged Scarlett, buried her head in her arms, and said softly.

"I don't want mommy to neglect me."

Seeing Yara was scared, Scarlett patted her back. "From now on, it'll just be the two of us, okay?"

Yara nodded.

When Ambrose came back, Scarlett had already gone to bed. Following his daily routine, after showering, he went to check on the children's sleeping situation.

But before that, he picked up his phone and sent Scarlett a message.

"Asleep?"

After waiting about a minute with no reply, was she still angry? Or was she asleep?

He couldn't wait. He put down his phone first and went to Yara's room. Not seeing anyone, he guessed she had gone to sleep in Scarlett's room.

But Hayden was in his room. Ambrose was surprised Hayden hadn't gone to share a bed, and walked in.

He stood by the bed. In the dim light, Hayden's little face was covered in sweat. He reached out to brighten the night light and saw Hayden's face was flushed red, his eyebrows knitted together, looking extremely uncomfortable.

He reached out to touch Hayden's forehead. It was so hot he pulled his hand back. Hayden had a fever.

"Hayden." Ambrose called out. No response. He knew Hayden was delirious from the fever. He rushed to the bathroom, wrung out a wet towel, and placed it on his forehead to cool him down.

After doing this, Ambrose went back to his room, picked up his phone and called the family doctor.

"Dr. Watson, Hayden has a fever. Please come to Lakeside Garden."

After hanging up, Ambrose sent Scarlett another message.

"Where's the thermometer? Hayden has a fever."

Scarlett hadn't fallen into a deep sleep yet. When her phone chimed with a message, she grabbed it from the nightstand. After seeing the message, she quickly got out of bed.

She opened the door and ran into Ambrose coming out of the room. "Hayden has a fever?"

"Yes, his whole body is burning up." Ambrose said. He wanted to ask why she hadn't replied to his message earlier, but right now the child's situation came first.

Scarlett first rushed into Hayden's room to check the situation, then ran back to the living room to find the thermometer in the medicine box. The reading was 102.2 degrees Fahrenheit—a high fever.

Although she hated Octavia, after spending time with Hayden, Scarlett genuinely liked him. When he got sick, she felt bad too.

"Let's take him to the hospital!" Scarlett squatted by the bed, wiping Hayden's body with alcohol to bring down his temperature.
