Chapter 127 Counterattack
After listening, Ambrose narrowed his eyes. Chase continued, "Ulysses plans to organize all the well-known companies in Silverlight City into a massive group and create a high-end financial empire before that person from the Mitchell family rises to power."
"Ulysses has quite an appetite. I just wonder if he has the ability to pull it off. Using fundraising to collect money like this—if something goes wrong and it all blows up, he'll be completely ruined," Ambrose said coldly.
"Ulysses isn't in finance, yet he dares to touch this. He's really got some nerve."
Chase asked worriedly, "Should we get involved in this? What they're doing will definitely damage Silverlight City's entire economy."
"No rush. Let's wait and see. We'll deal with the current situation first."
Chase naturally knew what the current situation referred to, so he said, "Gold Valley District thinks they've got Ulysses backing them. Let's teach them a real lesson."
Ambrose stood up from his chair, placed both hands on the desk, his eyes cold. "No, don't touch Gold Valley District. Let's make our move from inside the Ross Group!"
Chase immediately understood what he meant. Since they were expecting them to target Gold Valley District, why not catch them off guard and strike from within the Ross Group instead.
"Got it. I'll get right on it."
After Chase left, Ambrose picked up his phone and made a call.
"Ambrose, calling me so early in the morning—miss me?" came Ruben's playful voice from the other end.
"I asked you to keep an eye on the Mitchell family. How's that going?" Ambrose wasn't interested in small talk.
Ruben was silent for two seconds, then spoke again in a more serious tone. "Speaking of the Mitchell family, I was just about to tell you something. Ulysses has been making some big moves lately. He's recruited a bunch of well-known companies to form a capital group. I'd say he's got quite the nerve."
"Those people are only falling for his pitch because they see the Mitchell family rising to power. But the way he's operating, things could easily go wrong. Do you want to step in and stop it?"
Ambrose scoffed lightly. "I just heard about this. His abilities don't match his ambitions. I don't even need to make a move—trouble will come on its own eventually. But the thing is, what he's doing will have some impact on Silverlight City's economy, and I can't just let that slide."
"That's exactly what I was thinking. Ulysses doesn't even look at what he's capable of, yet he dares to play this game. I'm just worried he'll wreck our Silverlight City's economy," Ruben said.
"You can tip off the economic investigation unit on your end. Have them keep tabs on this guy and step in when necessary," Ambrose suggested.
"Alright, I'll arrange it."
---
Since arriving at the company, Scarlett had been working non-stop, with various meetings keeping her busy. At least the hectic work helped her put Wesley's situation out of her mind.
During a break, she took her cup and headed to the break room. As she reached the doorway, she heard animated gossip coming from inside.
"I heard Mr. Rivera got chewed out by the higher-ups yesterday. Scarlett snitched on him."
"Really?"
"That's what came down from above. Shouldn't be false. You all better be careful and not offend anyone."
"Is her backer really Mr. Boleyn?"
"There's no smoke without fire. Think about it."
"I heard she's divorced. A few days ago, I saw a post about her online saying she got divorced because she cheated during her marriage."
"What post? Where is it? Send it to me."
"It got taken down."
"If she can hook someone like Mr. Boleyn, she must really have some tricks up her sleeve."
Hearing this, Scarlett walked in. The next second, the break room fell completely silent. Everyone saw her and quickly shut their mouths, pretending to drink their coffee.
"Looks like break rooms are gossip central everywhere," Scarlett said, reaching for the coffee powder on the wall shelf. Her tone was light but carried weight.
"Who told you that Mr. Rivera getting chewed out was because I snitched?" Scarlett asked, holding the coffee powder and looking at the group huddled together.
Everyone immediately panicked. One of them quickly stepped forward to explain.
"We heard it from Mr. Rivera."
Scarlett understood. She took her cup with the coffee powder and went to get hot water.
Seeing that she wasn't pursuing the matter further, the group breathed a sigh of relief and scurried away. Scarlett acted as if she hadn't noticed, because she understood that those kinds of rumors would be spread anywhere. Making a fuss about it wasn't necessary.
A minute later, she walked out of the break room with her brewed coffee and headed to her office. After setting down her cup, she went straight to Heath's office and knocked.
"What is it?" Heath looked at Scarlett coldly.
Scarlett looked back at Heath with a cold smile. "Mr. Rivera, I've put up with you once, twice, but three times is too much. Aren't you going too far?"
Heath had just been chewed out by Ambrose yesterday, and now with Scarlett suddenly showing up, he was still a bit nervous.
"What are you talking about?"
Scarlett's eyes were sharp. "You got chewed out by Mr. Boleyn yesterday, and you're saying I snitched? Which eye of yours saw me snitch?"
Heath frowned slightly. "Who told you I said that?"
He quickly pulled that employee into his office. She cried and said, "I didn't say that. There were so many people there—you can call them to testify."
Scarlett had been betrayed again, but she kept smiling throughout, calm and composed. "Fine, call everyone who was there and have them say whether or not you said this."
So everyone from the break room gathered again. Everyone gave the same story—they all said they hadn't heard such words. Heath started getting difficult.
He pointed at Scarlett's nose. "Scarlett, I've put up with you for a long time. Don't think that just because you're capable, you can disrespect your superiors at the company. Even if your work doesn't report to me, I'm still your superior. You're being so disrespectful and arrogant."
Scarlett smiled faintly. "So it seems you all have such a big problem with me that you're ganging up on me?"
With that, Scarlett pulled out her phone and played the recording from the break room. When it played, everyone's faces changed dramatically.
"Very nice. You're all united against me, but twisting the truth and slandering a colleague—is that the Boleyn Group's specialty?"
Scarlett's words made everyone lower their heads. Everyone knew Scarlett had backing, and now she had evidence. They didn't dare argue anymore.
"Ms. Mellon, we had no choice. Please don't hold it against us."
The female employee who had initially mentioned Heath spoke up. Scarlett laughed coldly. "No choice? Did someone force you?"
"Don't worry, just say whatever it is directly." Scarlett's tone was gentle but commanding.
The female employee looked at Heath, not daring to speak. Scarlett naturally saw through it and chuckled. "If you don't speak up, I'll have to report this to the higher-ups and let them handle it."
Hearing this, they had no choice but to tell everything, pointing directly at Heath as the one who made them do it. Scarlett looked at Heath.
"Mr. Rivera, you've been making things difficult for me since I joined the company. If you don't give me an explanation today, this isn't over."
