Chapter 173 Excaped
Chapter 173 Excaped
Siwoo returned the following morning with alarming news from the care facility where little Betty was being kept. The staff had called, urgently requesting their presence at the estate.
Raven, who had been feeling down after everything that had transpired and his sleeplessness, took the wheel without hesitation. They sped straight toward the estate. The moment they pulled up, the nanny on duty hurried outside, her face creased with frustration. She reported that the child had completely refused to eat anything. The doctor had been called multiple times to examine her, only to confirm that the baby was in perfect physical health.
"If she doesn't want to eat, then let her be!" Raven spoke immediately out of rage. "When she goes hungry enough, she'll eat!"
Siwoo tapped his shoulder gently, attempting to calm his nerves. "Remember, Raven, she's just a child. Don't let your rage toward Saebyeok overtake you."
Raven scoffed, turning his face away.
Siwoo turned back to the nanny, who already looked thoroughly stressed, as if the baby had been giving them a tough time.
"I think we should bring back the same woman who had been taking care of her," Siwoo said. "Maybe she knows the child best."
With that, they drove off toward the building where the woman lived, only to notice that the apartment had been completely vacated. They had packed up and left.
"Strange," Siwoo said, staring at Raven. "What would make her suddenly pack up?"
Just then, a man walked past after coming out of the neighboring apartment. They stopped him immediately. "Excuse me, do you have any idea why the woman packed up?"
The man pointed toward her front door and turned to Raven and Siwoo. "They had an emergency, according to them, so they had to leave with their baby immediately."
"Which baby?" Siwoo asked in shock.
The man stared at them for a moment. "You seem to know them, but you don't know they have a daughter?"
"Betty?" Raven spoke, even though the name seemed hard for him to say.
The man nodded and walked away.
Raven turned to Siwoo as their eyes widened in panic. They quickly rushed back to their car and sped back to the estate where they had left the child.
Surprisingly, the entire place had been deserted. No more nannies, no more doctors. The front door was left wide open, and furniture and papers were scattered across the floor.
They rushed inside the room where the baby had been kept. The room was empty.
"What just happened?!" Raven asked, his eyes wide with shock.
Siwoo scoffed gently. "They planned it perfectly. That nanny was forced to call us to keep us occupied so they could run off... and we were so stupid we didn't even go to check the baby when she told us about her not eating."
Raven shook his head in horror. "We can't let this happen. Saebyeok is active in that child, and if we get hold of her again, we won't spare her. We can't let what happened ever happen again!"
He pulled out his phone immediately and placed a call to the police, filing a complaint about a woman escaping with a child that wasn't hers.
Soon, they got back into their car and drove straight to the airport, knowing there was a chance she might try to leave the country that very day.
When they arrived at the airport, they searched frantically around the terminal, checking every gate and corner. But there was no sign of the woman or the baby.
"I think they have really fled," Siwoo said, looking around the crowded floor.
"We can't give up!" Raven roared, running his hands over his head in frustration. "This can't repeat itself! We got through this before because we had hints of Saebyeok. But when that child grows up, we'll be old. What happens when she overpowers everybody?!"
Siwoo shook her head, and they immediately began searching through the crowd again, checking every child in sight, but nothing was found.
Raven checked his phone, but noticed he had no network connection.
"Can I have your phone?" he asked. "I need to put a call through again."
Siwoo brought out her phone and handed it to Raven. But just as he was about to place the call, another incoming call lit up her screen, and his eyes widened.
He turned to Siwoo and held up the phone. "Jina? Why is a contact saved as Jina calling your phone?"
Siwoo pulled the phone away from him quickly. "Oh, this? It's just someone I know, and it's definitely not the Jina in your head, Raven. Just wake up, accept that she's gone, and move on!"
She turned immediately to leave and answer the call, but Raven gripped her wrist firmly.
"Siwoo," he spoke with a shaky voice, staring at her with wide, desperate eyes. "Tell me the truth, please. What is happening?"
