Chapter 261 Going to Sea

Chapter 261 Going to Sea

James also had such a suspicion, but to understand the specifics, he needed to be on the scene.

Sophia said, "You have to take me there. I need to find Dexter."

James hesitated for a moment and then nodded.

The two took a motorboat, and when they arrived at the fishing boat, there were already quite a few officers there.

On the deck of the fishing boat, there were two pitch-black iron barrels.

The barrels were filled with cement, and at the top of the cement, a human head was exposed.

The head was mostly just bones, with the flesh likely eaten by fish.

Many fish had entered through the deceased's throat, possibly consuming the remaining flesh inside, creating a chilling scene.

Sophia stepped forward to take a look and felt a shiver of fear.

"Can you identify who it is?" she asked curiously.

An officer nearby said, "It should be possible. There might be some flesh inside the body to extract DNA. If only the skeleton remains, we can use craniofacial reconstruction technology."

Sophia turned her head and asked, "Is it done using clay modeling to reconstruct the skull?"

The officer next to her smiled and said, "That technique is outdated. Using clay to reconstruct the skull can take half a month, and each reconstruction might not be the same."

"Now we use computer reconstruction. By inputting the relevant data of the skull, we can analyze the gender, age, and physical characteristics. Sometimes it only takes an hour to reconstruct the appearance. The software can also add appropriate textures, expressions, and hair to make the reconstruction more realistic."

Sophia was surprised at how fast technology had advanced.

If this were the case, it should be easier to solve cases involving long-decomposed bodies.

She glanced at the officer next to her, guessing he was responsible for this kind of identification, but she hadn't seen him before, so she quietly asked James.

James said, "This is Ronald Carter, the former chief of the city's police department's criminal digital forensics division, a senior engineer, and a craniofacial reconstruction expert. He now works for the FBI."

Sophia was a bit surprised. "The FBI is here?"

James nodded.

Seeing who it was, he realized the seriousness of the matter.

The involvement of the FBI indicated that this case was significant.

He even suspected that the FBI was here because of Dexter.

James glanced around and turned to the captain, asking, "Didn't you find any other barrels?"

The captain said, "There might be more, but our fishing net was torn at the bottom. When we pulled it up, there were only these two."

James looked at the deep, bottomless sea.

Given the torn net, pulling up two barrels was already a significant probability, indicating there were more below.

He looked at the sea surface and said, "We need to send someone down to check the situation below."

An officer nearby said, "We've already sent divers down, but they didn't find anything. We suspect the location is wrong."

James glanced at the captain.

The captain said, "We move around when fishing and only stopped here at the end. I don't remember the exact location."

James took out his phone and sent the captain a location. "Can you go to this place?"

The captain glanced at Ronald, "I can, but who should I listen to? Mr. Carter told me not to move."

James turned to Ronald, "I have some information that might lead to the location of the bodies. Do you want to retrieve them?"

Ronald's pupils contracted.

He didn't let the captain leave but asked, "Where did you get this information?"

James said seriously, "I'm afraid I can't tell you yet."

Ronald asked, puzzled, "Why not?"

James calmly said, "I think you came here for a reason, and the most likely reason is related to an undercover agent. You're investigating a very important case, right?"

Ronald nodded heavily.

Although he didn't say anything, James could see the answer.

James leaned closer and continued, "Then why didn't you receive any information, but I did? Have you thought about what the problem might be?"

Ronald thought for a moment and finally sighed.

The problem wasn't hard to figure out.

Maybe the undercover agent was betrayed, and there was a mole in their team, which was why no information was passed up.

He looked at James and curiously asked, "But why do you trust me?"

James said seriously, "I've heard of you. You fight criminals, lead by example, and aren't afraid of threats or danger. I don't think you have a problem."

Ronald turned to the captain and said, "Follow the location he provided and set sail."

The captain went to the cockpit and drove the fishing boat away.

They soon stopped at the designated location.

James stood on the deck, feeling the howling sea wind.

He leaned over the bow, looked at the sea, and asked, "Do you have any diving suits?"

Ronald was surprised, "You want to go down yourself?"

James nodded, "I don't trust anyone else."

Sophia came over, "What? You don't trust me? I'm going with you."

James said seriously, "No jokes, it's dangerous down there."

Sophia raised her head and said, "Who do you think you're looking down on? I have a diving certificate. You might not be as good as I down there."

Ronald turned and said, "Bring two diving suits."

He thought for a moment, "To be safe, tie ropes to them."

Sophia quickly put on her suit.

She carried an oxygen tank, stood at the bow, and said to James, "Don't underestimate me."

With that, she jumped in.

Sophia disappeared into the water instantly.

James followed closely, diving into the water.

He wore diving goggles and searched for Sophia.

To see better, he turned on his spotlight and vaguely saw Sophia's figure.

Sophia swam quickly towards the coral reef like a fish.

James followed.

His speed was indeed not as fast as Sophia's, maybe because he hadn't been in the water for a long time and felt a bit unaccustomed.

But after a few minutes, he reached Sophia's side.

Sophia was standing by the coral reef, having already turned on her flashlight.

However, the light attracted many fish, surrounding her and blocking her view.

When James arrived and drove away the fish, he saw several iron barrels standing nearby.
