Chapter 259 The Missing Husband

Chapter 259 The Missing Husband

The sea wind howled in the pitch-black night, with massive waves surging and making eerie sounds, reminiscent of demon cries.

"Cody, what are you doing sitting there?"

"Are you too excited because we caught too many fish?"

"This catch is incredible, all tuna. We're going to make a fortune."

"Cody, get up, it's time to collect the fish."

Cody, who was sitting there, tried to stand up but wobbled and sat back down. He pounded his thigh hard, but couldn't stand up.

"I can't stand up," Cody shouted back.

"Leg cramp?"

"Or are you too excited?"

"I think it's your first time fishing at sea, and seeing so many fish must be very exciting, right?"

"When I first went fishing at sea, I was so excited that I fell several times."

Cody clutched his chest and pointed to a metal bucket that had fallen on the deck from the fishing net. "You guys, come over here and take a look at this thing. Is there a person inside?"

When Sophia woke up, it was still dark outside.

She had not slept well that night, so when she heard the sound of rain tapping against the window, she slowly got out of bed, pulled back the curtain, and took a look.

At that moment, a flash of lightning streaked across the sky, followed by a loud thunderclap.

Sophia glanced at her watch; it was only five in the morning.

It was pitch dark outside, and the heavy rain blurred the view through the window.

She looked up at the building across the street and caught sight of a faint light on the 18th floor. Curious, she opened the window to get a closer look. Cold wind mixed with rain rushed in, soaking the windowsill. She squinted her eyes and looked across, confirming that it was indeed the 18th floor where the light was shining.

Sophia quickly closed the window. Her pajamas were already wet from the rain, but she didn't change immediately. Instead, she called James.

The call connected quickly, and James answered, "What's up?"

Sophia curiously asked, "Aren't you sleeping?"

James replied, "I got up early. I have a habit of exercising in the morning."

Sophia sighed in relief, "I thought something had happened."

James hesitated for a moment and then asked, "Would you like to have breakfast together?"

Sophia nodded, "Sure, how much time do you need?"

James replied, "Half an hour."

"Then let's meet downstairs at your place in half an hour. You can choose the breakfast spot."

Sophia said before hanging up the phone, freshened up, put on a delicate light makeup, wore her favorite trench coat, and put on a pair of transparent white rain boots over her boots, then donned a transparent white raincoat.

She looked in the mirror and was very satisfied with her outfit.

Soon, she arrived downstairs at James's place. At that moment, James was standing at the entrance with a black umbrella. He walked over to Sophia and held the umbrella over her head.

His voice was gentle, "Let's go."

Sophia followed James to the Emerald City breakfast shop, 0.62 miles away.

As soon as she walked in, Sophia was greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of freshly made sandwiches, and she could hardly wait to place her order.

She not only ordered sandwiches but also Italian dumplings, waffles, and milk.

Sophia and James sat by the window, eating breakfast while watching the rain outside.

At that time, many people were not up, and there weren't many cars on the road outside. The streetlights were still glowing, and the dense sycamore trees cast a unique beauty under the dim light.

Sophia sighed, "It's really nice to have breakfast here."

James calmly replied, "But you've never gotten up this early before."

Sophia said embarrassedly, "I usually sleep a lot. Once I'm out, it's hard for me to wake up. Today is indeed an exception."

She tilted her head. "Aren't you tired?"

James replied, "I'm used to it."

Sophia quietly looked at him, wondering why a man who often lacks sleep has such good skin. It's really incredible.

James asked, "Is there something on my face?"

Sophia awkwardly lowered her head and quickly changed the subject, "By the way, did you get any information on that phone number you investigated yesterday?"

James replied heavily, "It's a virtual number."

Sophia touched her chin. "Can you trace the IP through the internet?"

James looked out the window, his voice even heavier, "No, he used an overseas server, and it's heavily encrypted."

"Then this person is truly elusive. We'll need to find someone to help." Sophia lightly tapped the table with her fingers.

James nodded.

Sophia stood up, "Let's go to the Mystery Detective Agency. We haven't been there in a few days, and I suddenly feel a bit nostalgic. I need a cup of coffee to wake up."

James nodded.

Half an hour later, they arrived at the Mystery Detective Agency.

Sophia put coffee beans into the coffee machine, and soon a cup of aromatic coffee was ready. She poured in some milk, made a heart shape on the coffee, added a spoonful of sugar, and placed it in front of James.

"The coffee I make is almost as good as the ones in coffee shops," Sophia remarked proudly. "I used to spend my free time here studying coffee making. Give me some more time, and I could become a master."

Sophia turned to prepare a second cup of coffee when she heard a knock on the door. Looking back, she saw a middle-aged woman standing there.

The woman was wearing a yellow raincoat, her hair slightly messy, and her purple-red hair was very stylish. Despite being a middle-aged woman, she gave off the impression of a great beauty.

"You investigate cases here, right?" The woman glanced at Sophia, "I've seen you on TV. You're Ms. Brown."

Sophia quickly put down the coffee and walked over. "Yes, that's me. How can I help you?"

The woman said sadly, "My husband is missing."

Sophia curiously asked, "What does your husband do? Did he say anything to you before he left?"

The woman said, "I don't know exactly what he does. He's rarely home and hardly ever calls."

Sophia couldn't understand why this woman would marry such a man. She didn't even know what her husband's job was. It was so strange.

The woman continued, "Before he disappeared, he only sent me a set of coordinates and two words, 'Viper.'"
