Chapter 244 Inquiry
Chapter 244 Inquiry
James stood at the doorway, not moving an inch.
However, his gaze was fixed on Sophia, his eyes cold and full of vigilance.
But Jade behaved as if he were invisible, whispering something into Sophia's ear.
Soon, Sophia fell asleep, as if she were lost in her dream, with an unprecedentedly satisfied smile on her face.
James found this scene unbelievable.
Because Jade hadn't done anything, she just whispered something into Sophia's ear, and then Sophia fell asleep.
It was too strange.
Combining this with his previous experiences, his curiosity was piqued, and he couldn't help but ask, "How did you do that?"
Jade looked up, smiled, and replied, "It's just a matter of understanding her psychology and guiding her, and she willingly falls asleep."
"Everyone has their secrets," Jade glanced at James and remarked meaningfully, "including you."
Hearing this, James felt an inexplicable fear, worried that he might have said something he shouldn't have while he was asleep.
He had heard that if one engages with someone who is sleep-talking, they will respond to questions with honesty. They might even reveal their secrets.
James believed that hypnosis could achieve this.
Jade seemed to see through his thoughts and remarked with a smile, "You don't need to worry. Last time you fell asleep, Ms. Brown was right beside you."
James breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this.
Jade pointed to the office next door, "I expect Ms. Brown will sleep for about two hours. How about we go across the hall and have a chat?"
James hesitated for a moment but didn't move.
Jade expressed, "We can talk about your former partner, Ava."
James's eyes flickered, and he nodded, following Jade into the room next door.
As soon as they sat down, James asked, "How much do you know about her?"
Jade calmly replied, "About 90%."
James was a bit shocked. "She told you everything?"
Jade nodded, "Yes, during her therapy sessions with me, she told me everything."
James fell silent, and after a while, he asked gravely, "Did Ava tell you who she was investigating at the time?"
Jade thought for a long time, "It's been a while, so I don't remember clearly. It seemed to be a man with a snake tattoo, a gangster with the nickname 'Viper.'"
"Viper?"
James looked out the window with a heavy heart. Since coming to Emerald City, he had been secretly investigating matters related to the past, studying the entire underground organization of Emerald City, and getting to know many informants and undercover agents.
But he had never heard of a formidable figure called Viper in Emerald City.
James looked up and asked, "Are you sure you didn't mishear?"
Jade softly replied, "I don't know. It's been too long, and I'm just guessing based on my memory."
James nodded, "Did she come to see you a few days before she died?"
Jade responded, "Yes, she had a habit of coming to me to relieve stress. I didn't expect that being a detective would be so hard for her. She was under a lot of pressure."
James's forehead veins bulged slightly, and his hands clenched involuntarily. Upon hearing this, he felt a wave of distress wash over him. Back then, he had put too much pressure on Ava.
At that time, he was so focused on the case that he blurted out something harsh: "As my work partner, I can't afford to have you being useless."
James looked out the window in pain, believing that Ava must have been very broken inside at that time.
James tried to suppress his pain and calm his restless emotions. He probed, "Did she say anything the day before the incident?"
Jade replied, "She mentioned that she might be in danger because she had discovered an important clue that needed confirmation."
James asked urgently, "Did she say what the clue was?"
Jade shook her head, "She didn't want to say."
James sighed silently. He had always wondered what Ava had discovered that led to her being captured and killed.
At that time, the killer even sent a video link of her being killed to the police station.
James watched her being killed live.
But he was powerless.
Over the years, he had been investigating what clue Ava had discovered and why she died so tragically, but he had found nothing. This had become one of the most painful burdens he carried in his heart. James was engulfed in his pain. He glanced at the room next door and saw through the glass that someone was leaning over Sophia. He immediately stood up nervously and walked to the next room.
At the door, he could see the person in front of him.
It was a girl, probably only seventeen, with a youthful face, but her gaze was a bit confused.
"Who are you?" James questioned sternly.
The girl quickly stood up, "I, I'm looking for Ms. Marie. I'm her student."
At that moment, Jade walked over, looked at the girl, and said, "Molly, why are you here? Didn't I tell you to call me if I'm not around?"
Molly explained apologetically, "I forgot my phone. I happened to see a young girl lying here and thought she looked familiar, so I came over out of curiosity."
She raised a hand, "I promise, I didn't do anything."
Jade waved her hand, "You can go now. Come find me later."
As Molly was about to leave, a hand suddenly grabbed her.
"Wait a minute."
At that moment, Sophia slowly opened her eyes. She sat up in the rocking chair, holding Molly's hand.
"You were whispering in my ear just now. Can you say it again?"
Molly trembled nervously, "I, I didn't say anything."
Sophia sneered, "No, you did. You asked a lot of questions, didn't you?"
Molly glanced at Jade outside the door. Jade scolded sternly, "Molly, what did you ask? Tell the truth, or you won't get any credit this semester."
Molly replied in a panic, "I, I just wanted to know what skills this young girl has, why she's so amazing."
"I saw her on the news before. She's a very skilled detective, and I admire her a lot."
