CHAPTER TWENTY TWO

Meeting the Strange man

As the sound of footsteps drew nearer, Nina's heart began to race with fear. She glanced around, searching for a place to hide, but the dense bush showed no place for refuge. Panic surged through her veins as she realized there was nowhere to run. All she could do was sit and wait for whatever was coming.

With trembling hands and a quivering voice, Nina forced herself to remain still as the footsteps approached. Her eyes widened in terror as a towering figure emerged from the shadows, his imposing presence sending a shiver down her spine.

"Hello?" Nina stammered nervously, her voice barely above a whisper. "Who... who are you? And what do you want? Please, I don't have any money."

The man's face remained impassive, his gaze fixed on Nina with a power that made her skin crawl. His heavy breathing echoed in the silence, summing up to Nina's growing sense of fear.

As he drew closer, Nina's instincts screamed at her to flee, but she knew that running would only provoke him further. With a trembling voice, she dropped to her knees before him, her hands clasped in a desperate plea.

"P-please," Nina begged, her voice quivering with fear. "Please, spare me... I-I have done nothing wrong. Spare me for the sake of my unborn child. Please..."

The man's expression remained unchanged, his features carved from stone as he regarded Nina with an unreadable gaze. For a long moment, the forest seemed to hold its breath, the tension thickening with each passing second.

Then, to Nina's immense relief, the man finally spoke, his voice low and gravelly. "You are fortunate, woman," he rumbled, his words carrying a weight of authority. "For I am not here to harm you. I have been sent to deliver a message."

Nina's heart pounded in her chest as she listened intently, her fear gradually giving way to curiosity. She dared to hope that perhaps this encounter would not end in tragedy after all.

With a deep breath, the man began to speak, his words resonating with a seriousness that sent shivers down Nina's spine. As he delivered his message, Nina's mind raced with questions, her thoughts spinning with the essence of his words.

But amidst the uncertainty and fear, one thing remained unclear: she didn't know why someone would send a warning to her to leave town. She hadn't offended a tone nor was she dragging anything with anyone.

Nina nodded silently, her heart still pounding with fear as she processed the man's words. Without daring to utter another word, she turned and fled into the village, her footsteps echoing loudly in the silence. She couldn't challenge the man because he might change his mind and kill her.

Every rustle of leaves and snap of twigs sent a jolt of terror coursing through her veins, but she forced herself to keep moving forward. She dared not look back, afraid of what she might see.

Finally, after what felt like forever, Nina stumbled out of the dense undergrowth and into the clearing surrounding Nana Sam's home. She collapsed to her knees, gasping for breath, her body trembling with exhaustion and fear.

Nana Sam, who had been tending to her herbs nearby, rushed to Nina's side, her face etched with concern. "Nina, what happened? Is anyone chasing you?" she asked, her voice laced with worry.

Taking a moment to catch her breath, Nina narrated her grueling experience with the mysterious man in the woods. She described his imposing presence, his dreadful sight, and the cryptic message he had delivered.

Nana Sam listened intently, her brow furrowed in concern as Nina told her ordeal. When Nina had finished speaking, Nana Sam placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, her expression filled with compassion.

"My dear child," Nana Sam murmured, her voice soft with sympathy. "You have been through so much. But you are safe now, here with me. We will find a way to protect you and your unborn child. But I will have to find a way to know who was behind this act."

Nina nodded gratefully, tears welling up in her eyes as she leaned into Nana Sam's comforting embrace. Despite the dawdle of fear and uncertainty, she knew that she was not alone. With Nana Sam by her side to protect her, she felt a glimmer of hope. Nana Sam wouldn't let any harm come to her.

After comforting Nina, Nana Sam gently guided her inside the house and settled her onto a comfortable bed. With practiced hands, she checked on the condition of Nina's unborn baby, her heart swelling with relief when she found that everything appeared to be alright.

Before Nina drifted off into a fitful sleep, Nana Sam brewed a soothing herbal concoction to help ease her anxiety and promote restful slumber. She carefully administered the potion to Nina, ensuring that she was comfortable before quietly leaving her side to sleep.

With a heavy sigh, Nana Sam sank into a nearby chair, her mind swirling with thoughts and emotions. She couldn't stop thinking about what Nina had told her. She was surprised that someone could threaten a harmless pregnant woman.

Frowning, Nana Sam began to piece together the events that had led to Nina's frightening encounter in the woods. She knew that the Yoma clan was not without its dangers, but the appearance of a mysterious stranger had raised troubling questions.

Who was this man, and what did he want with Nina? Nana Sam pondered these questions, her mind racing as she considered the possible implications of his cryptic warning.

Deep down, Nana Sam knew that there was more to this situation than met the eye. She sensed that Nina was in grave danger, and that their peaceful existence in the Yoma clan was about to be shattered by forces beyond their control.

With a heavy heart, Nana Sam decided to reveal the truth behind Nina's ordeal. She would not rest until she had answers, and until she could ensure the safety of Nina and her unborn child.

But for now, as the moon cast its soft glow over the tranquil landscape outside, Nana Sam allowed herself a moment of respite. She closed her eyes, offering a silent prayer for protection and guidance as she braced herself to protect Nina with her life.
