Chapter Seventeen: A Turn

Chapter Seventeen: A Turn
Aria’s pov

It was tasking sitting in one position for hours. I was finally able to come out of the warehouse but the day had fast gone by. I had no service on my phone neither did I have enough battery to keep my phone on.

No cars were passing on the road. It was isolated and I couldn’t order a ride either. I knew there was no hope out there and  waiting wouldn’t do me any good because no one was coming.

The road was not only lonely but the trees blew in a creepy way. I was scared walking alone. I knew I would have a lot of explaining to do when I get back home. My feets were being to hurt badly so much that I couldn't feel them. I had no idea how many miles I had covered. I was feeling dehydrated and hungry the sun had gone down and the roads were dark. I kept hoping to see someone or get a signal on my phone. But all hopes were to no avail.

I walked down the road until I got back to the city side then I was able to catch a signal. I went ahead to call the only person I should have. Lucian.

“She’s awake.” I heard a familiar voice. I struggled to open my eyes but I was weak. I took a glimpse and saw a few faces but the only face clear in my view  was Demien’s.

“Aria, can you hear me?” That was Demien’s voice. I took a little peep of where I was. It wasn’t my home or Demien’s and I realized I was in the hospital.

“What happened?” I managed to say a few words but before I could get an answer I passed out again.

I woke up to the sweetest scent of villain and coffee . My head no longer felt dizzy and my eyes adjusted to my environment.

Standing in front of me was Demien’s mom Mrs Laurent.

“Aria darling, how are you feeling now?” She asked  she was very soft spoken.

“I’m fine Mrs Laurent.” I sent her a small smile.

“I’m sorry to have made you worry.” I apologized immediately. I could see the dark circles in her eyes. I wondered how long I must have passed out.

“It’s fine save your strength darling I’ll send for the doctor to come check you.” She didn’t mind watching over me. For the first time  in a while I felt safe. I felt loved.

I sent her a small smile. Just as she was about to leave, the door opened. Daminen came in with a heavy flower bouquet.

“Aria!” He called out to me when he saw that I was now conscious.

“She is  awake.” His mom tells him. She seemed overjoyed.

“Who did this to you?” His eyes darken immediately he came to sit next to me.

“Damine let her rest. You can talk about that later.” Mrs Laurent scolded him. His anger roared in his head almost like he was trying to hide from himself.

I placed my hands on his and gave him a soft smile. I wanted him to know I was doing fine. The last thing I remembered was calling Lucian.

“What day is it?” I asked, I sounded weak since I am still recovering.

“You have been here for three days now sweetheart.” Mrs Laurent tells me.

“What? three days?” My eyes widened.

“Yes you passed out in the middle of nowhere and someone found you.” She explained it to me but I was confused. I am sure I spoke to Lucian. I am sure I heard him sounding furious when he realized I was stranded, so how come someone else found me. He was the only one that knew where I was.

“Thanks to the young lady we were able to find you, we were all worried.” She added she patted my head gently. A young lady? I didn’t want to ask any more questions. Just then the doctor came into the room.

“Good day Mrs Aria.” It was Doctor Steve.

“How are you feeling this morning?” He asked as he flipped through some documents he was holding.

“I feel good, thank you.” I answered him.

“Do you feel any pain or discomfort somewhere?” He asked as he opened my eyes and cheeked them.

“No, I just feel really tired.” I was sincere.

“Yes you should.” He sent me a small smile.

“Congratulations Mrs Aria you are pregnant.” He added with a big smile plastered on his face.

“What?” I screamed in terror. That was too much news for me to carry.

“How can I be pregnant?”

“Oh my goodness I am having a grandson.” Mrs Laurent said full of excitement. But I wasn’t buying it.

No no no

This can’t be happening to me. My mind flashed back to that morning when I woke up completely naked beside Demien.

Could it have been then.

“I am pregnant.” I spoke softly as I cuddled my stomach. I don’t know if I should be happy or sad about it. I had too many emotions running through me. I was overwhelmed.

“Yes Mrs Aria you are pregnant you can get more details in my office please excuse me.” He said and with that he left.

Demien didn’t say a word. He just stood there.

“I’ll be back please watch over her.” Mrs Laurent, full of  happiness, excused us. I guess we needed the privacy to iron things out.

“Did anything happen between us?” I broke the silence. Yes I had to ask regardless. The question has been on my mind. I just didn’t get the opportunity to talk about it.

“I’m sorry Aria.” The perfect egocentric Demien apologizes for the first time. I was supposed to feel good about it but I didn’t.

“I didn’t mean to touch you Aria. I was drunk and so were you. I tried to resist you but you wanted me too, but that’s not an excuse. I should have been able to handle the situation.” He was actually remorseful.

I didn’t know if I should believe him but Demien was a man of dignity. He wasn't the type to take advantage of someone, since I do not have any memory of that night. I am left with no choice but to believe what he tells me.

“I guess it was both our mistake.” I forced the bitter truth out of my mouth.

“Aria” Demien softly called my name with his deep voice.

“I can’t tell you what to do since having a baby was never a part of our agreement.” His face looks more serious than I have ever seen him.

“But I promise to take care of you and the baby.” He looked at my stomach. I felt shivers running down my spin. I was too nervous and my hands became sweaty. I swallowed the lump in my throat.

I didn’t know what to say. It was too much for me. I needed time to think it through. I mean, I didn’t think I would become a mother so soon. It was never a part of my plan. I had bigger things to chase and I didn’t want anything to hold me back. I do not want to give birth to a child and not be able to be there as its mother the same way my mom was never there for me. I was too scared. I do not want to end up being a bad mother. I know nothing about parenting. I was panicking.

“I’m sorry Demien.” That was all I could say. He didn’t need me to say too much; he already understood where I was coming from.

“It’s fine you know I’m always here for you.” His words broke my heart. I felt guilty.

I was discharged from the hospital that same morning the doctor instructed me to get some rest and I was doing just that. Damine left the mansion to me. I needed my own space and he understood without me having to say a word.

I sat close to the window as the evening breeze blew my hair off of my shoulder and the moonlight kissed my face. That was the most refreshing feeling I have gotten in weeks. I wrapped my hands around my stomach and I felt a warmth. A type of warmth I could only get from one person. It feels strange but comforting, but I knew I had to make a decision soon.

I was lost in thoughts for hours and so many questions flew through my mind.

If I am carrying Demien’s child our fake relationship might actually end up becoming a real one.

Am I  ready for that? Do I know Demien enough to want to have his child and spend the rest of my life with him? I wasn’t sure what the answer to my question was.

On second thought he isn’t such a bad choice. He has been there for me in my difficult times. He accepted my offer of being his fiancée out of the blue. I know he has always wanted to be with me and my failed love story was the perfect opportunity for him but regardless he didn’t leave me to drown in misery unlike Lucian.

At the thought of Lucian my heart tightened. He abandoned me even when I reached out to him for help. He was my favorite person, the only one I could rely on.

Demien turned out to be a better man than Lucian. I have somehow managed to feel more safe and at peace with him than I ever felt with Lucian but I wasn’t ready to be a part of Demien’s life. I feel guilty but I have to put myself first.

I picked up my phone and sent a message to the hospital. I booked an appointment with the doctor.

I slept more than I should have. I woke up to the scent of something delicious. It was Demien holding a tray of food. There was so much food there. He had no maids in the house. I wondered why he didn’t have any maids at first but I got to understand that he likes his privacy away from the world. Everyone needs their Peace away from the shitty world sometimes.

“I hope I didn’t wake you up.” He said as he placed the tray on the shelf close to me. At the sight of it I got a wide appetite. I guess the pregnancy symptoms were already kicking in but I had to control myself. I won’t be sharing good news with him so there was no use acting otherwise, by making him feel I would keep his child.

I tried to sit up and he helped me. Demien would definitely make one hell of a husband. Any lady married to him should be counted as lucky.

“Have this.” He turned and gave me a cup of fresh orange juice. I was reluctant to take it but he put the cup into my hands. He’s gentleness hit a spot in my heart.

“Demien..” I called out to him when he tried to give me something else.

“Yes.” He answered, and he immediately focused all of his attention on me. Our eyes met. I stared into his deep brown eyes. I suddenly became numb. I wasn’t able to say anything.

“Are you ok Aria.” He asked when he noticed I was lost  looking at him.

“Yh I.. I ..” I stuttered helplessly.

“I have made my decision.” I was soft spoken. my voice barely above a whisper.  I wasn’t feeling so proud of myself. I have never been the type to run away from my problems. Demien gave me the cue to continue with my statement.

“I’m sorry Demien but..” he placed his hands on time. The corner of my eyes gathered tears.

“I understand Aria, whenever you are ready I can take you.” He assured me I could see the pains in his eyes as much as he tried to hide it.

“You don’t have to.” My voice was shaking and I tried not to cry. I swallowed hard.

“I insist.” He assured me and I couldn’t turn down his offer. I shouldn’t deny him the chance of spending the last minute of his child with him.

I freshened up and Demien drove me to the hospital just as he promised. He went into the doctor's office together. I told him that he could stay back but he turned a deaf ear.

We got into the doctor's office. Doctor Steve wasn’t on the seat, so someone else attended to us.

“Doctor Sali, it's good to see you, how long has it been?” Demien said to him when we  entered his office.

“Oh Demien I can’t believe you’re in front of me.” The doctor seemed to know Demien a lot.

“Yes of course, I’m here right.” He laughed. Their jokes made my nervousness ease a little.

“Meet my fiancée Aria.” He introduced me to Doctor sali.

“Nice to meet you Mrs Aria.” We shaked hands and introduced ourselves, then we finally got down to the reason Demien and I are here.

“I assure you that they will be no complications.” Doctor sali said as he flipped through my records.

“Your blood pressure is normal. I just need you to sign these documents so we can get started.” He said and handed me the documents to sign. I was reluctant to take it. Demien placed his hands on mine and rubbed on it gently. Our eyes met and he sent me a small smile.

I reached out for the document and the pen. I was beginning to have cold feets, I was already missing the warmth of my child. I gently rubbed against my stomach, my heart was heavy and I was confused. I held on to the pen and stared at the document for god knows how long.

“Mrs Aria.” I jolted a little when I heard my name.

“Hmm…” I cleared my throat and I tried to hold onto the pen more but my hands were too weak. I pierced the paper hard almost as if I had forgotten  how to sign a document.

“I can’t do it.” I sighed.
