Chapter Ten: All Lies
Chapter Ten: All Lies
Aria pov
It has been over a week and the media has been more calm than it has been for the past few weeks. I am supposed to be happy about it but I am not. My life felt empty like it really didn’t make any difference. Demien had gone for a business trip so I have been by myself. I loved the space, it gave me the time I needed to think my life through.
Although we are not yet married, we now live in the same house. He suggested that we did since it was the only way for him to get this inheritance. I had to agree to it. Not that I had so much of a choice anyways, I didn’t want to be near the people that betrayed me so it wasn’t such a bad decision to take.
Demien would be coming back today. He had informed me that we would be going somewhere, to some mini family event. I wasn’t sure what he meant by a mini family event but I knew I had to prepare myself and present myself to buy him a seat on the table.
The morning was just like any other. I couldn't go around yet since the reporters were still lingering around the streets so I did most of my stuff from home.
I was lost in my thoughts when I I heard the doorbell ring. I guess my order had arrived. I threw on a rob and went ahead to get it but on getting there I couldn’t find any one at the entrance gate. All that was there at the front door was a box and it was definitely not the box I was expecting. I wondered what it was or who might have dropped it there.
I didn’t want anyone to see or recognize me. I had to quickly go inside. On opening the box there was just a single envelope in it. My curiosity got the best of me and I tore it open, my eyes widened at the sight of what I saw.
It was evidence of the death of Tommy Sinclair and a proof of my birth. I was confused, I quickly ran outside to see if I could see the mysterious person behind this information, but there was no one out there. It was as dry as a desert.
What? My knees felt weak.
How could this be?
The document clearly stated that my biological father was my mothers ex husband Tommy Sinclair.
Who could be pulling these strings?
One minute I am the daughter of my ex lover and in another I am not. My head began to spin and my heart ached remembering how I treated Lucian and how I had gotten myself into an engagement with Demien.
Does that mean I made a rash decision?
But..
My eyes went black. My heart was racing fast. I was confused. Who could have dropped this at my doorstep. No one was supposed to know I stayed here. It was Demien's secret mansion.
How did this person find me?
“Welcome!” The singing tone of Mrs Laurent welcomes Demien and I into their lovely home. She seems nice.
“Thank you.” I smiled gently as I handed over the flowers I had come with. Demien mentioned how much his mom loves flowers, so I got her one not just because I was trying to keep an impression but because I was also not the type to visit people empty handed. .
“Your house is beautiful.” I Added
“I love her already.” She smiled from ear to ear, telling Damien.
“I know you would.” He said almost as if he was proud of himself.
Well, he should be bringing a girl like me home. My beauty is irresistible.
“We should go inside, come on.” She added and took us to where the rest of the people were. It was an open garden. Big enough to contain at least two hundred people. I wonder how big the house must be.
It was Damien's father's birthday. Now I understood what he meant by a mini family gathering, but this was more than a family gathering. There are lots of people there, some faces of which I’ve seen before and some I’m not so sure about.
I wasn’t prepared and I didn’t come with any gift. The least he could have done was give me a more detailed explanation of what he meant by a mini family gathering. But if he did maybe I wouldn’t have agreed to come along.
As we made our way through the crowd, I could feel someone staring at me, a cold shiver run down my spine. I only felt this way when one person was around me and my instincts weren't wrong.
It was Lucian in his grey suit standing at the other side of the garden. My eyes met his. I stood still looking at him. I was lost without even realizing it.
“Hey Aria, over here.” Damien‘s voice brought me back to reality.
“Oh sure.” I smile through my teeth, almost as if I was being forced to smile.
I swallowed
I missed him and it hurt so bad not being able to talk to him. I didn't expect to see him here and an idea immediately popped up in my head. I need to get close to him. After receiving that envelope, I’m not sure who to trust or what to believe so I have decided to investigate all of it myself, and I will start by matching Lucian’s DNA with mine.
All I needed to do was get close enough and at least get a string of hair from his head, but how do I do that while everyone is watching? It was an open field. I'm not sure how I can get close to him with Celeste being all over him. it might not be possible and at the thought of celeste my chest tightened. She was pregnant for Lucian. She seems so happy although she didn’t steal my happiness. I felt a little bitter seeing how happy she is with him.
I was exposed to the public by someone unknown. It could have been anybody or maybe I just wasn’t careful enough. The truth was bound to be revealed some day. I was ready for the moment from the start. I loved Lucian that much and he always vowed to protect me in case anything went wrong, but I have come to realize they were just empty words. I rated him more than how he behaved. I always looked at him to be a man of his word but he showed otherwise.
I know deep down the test might not really change anything, but I would rather believe I lost a lover than believe I had an affair with my father.
