Chapter 32 What is she hiding from him?
"The ultrasound can't confirm the pregnancy yet, so we can't proceed with the abortion. We need to wait for another two months to be sure the fetus is in the uterus before we can proceed," the doctor explained.
"Oh, I have to wait that long?" Victoria replied, sounding indifferent. The doctor's expression soured at her cold response. "If you don't want the baby, you should take precautions. It's still your flesh and blood."
Victoria didn't explain herself and instead took a picture of the lab results on her phone before throwing away the paper. She stared at the results on her phone, lost in thought. This was her first time becoming a mother, and she never expected it to be like this. It was all her fault for not being careful enough.
"I'm sorry, baby. I shouldn't have let you come into this world. It's all my fault," she thought to herself, her face filled with sorrow.
Victoria walked in and saw her looking lost in thought, staring at her phone. "What are you looking at without drawing?" he asked.
Victoria jumped up in surprise, flustered. "Nothing, you're back. I'll start drawing now."
"What is this woman hiding?" Brandon wondered.
"Why are you so nervous when you see me?" he asked, his scrutinizing gaze making her more anxious. Did he find out about the baby?
She thought she had been careful, using a fake name at the hospital...
"I... okay, I was actually reading a romance novel. I was afraid you'd catch me," she lied.
She lowered her head deeply.
To hide the child, she had to sacrifice her image.
Brandon was taken aback and obviously didn't expect this answer. He awkwardly glanced at her.
"I'm waiting for your follow-up drawings," he said, turning around. But he suddenly saw her relaxed expression and his eyebrows furrowed again. He discreetly glanced at her phone but didn't say anything in the end. Victoria didn't notice his expression and breathed a sigh of relief, quickly starting to draw. However, she was distracted and not satisfied with what she drew.
At this moment, a text message came in.
"Victoria, Brandon came to see me today, you know that, right? He's the best for me, you can't take him away from me. You better leave on your own and don't wait for me to drive you away."
It was from Diana?
Victoria sneered and replied, "If you want me to leave, fine. Give me a transfer of 10 million, and I'll leave right away. If you don't have the money, I'll just stay here and see what you can do."
10 million was a sky-high price for Diana. Victoria was already annoyed, and she didn't want to deal with her anymore. She knew Diana couldn't afford it, but she just wanted to make her angry.
Diana was indeed angry. 10 million was impossible for her to come up with, even if Victoria gave her money now. He would think she was obsessed with money.
Victoria looked at Diana, who was silent. Knowing her well, Victoria could tell that Diana was seething with anger. Feeling relieved, Victoria started to draw. She drew until midnight and eventually fell asleep on the desk.
Brandon came out of the study and saw the woman lying there. He walked over and picked up her phone. He wanted to see what secrets she was hiding from him.
After studying her phone, he found nothing useful on her social media or downloaded apps. He only glanced at the direction of the pictures, but didn't open them. He thought there was nothing to hide in them. Did he misunderstand something? Just as he was about to put down the phone, a message popped up. "Victoria, you asked me for ten million dollars, knowing I can't afford it. Why are you so vain?" The message was from Diana.
Brandon was stunned when he saw the name. He heard Victoria whimpering beside him. He put down the phone and walked out.
He couldn't believe that Victoria had asked Diana for ten million dollars behind his back. He knew she wasn't as innocent as she appeared. He had suspected her of being scheming, but she hadn't made any moves recently, which had confused him. How could such a simple-minded person think of using a child to manipulate him?
Brandon's mood was heavily affected that night. The next morning, Victoria woke up and found that Brandon was gone.
"How come your husband didn't have breakfast today?" These days, they would have breakfast together when they woke up, but today she was the only one at the table, and she found it strange.
"He went out early this morning," the servant explained.
Victoria didn't think much of it and finished her meal. Then she remembered that they were supposed to visit the old mansion of the Duncan Family to see the old lady, but there had been no news.
As she was thinking about it, the phone suddenly rang. She answered it. "Victoria," a somewhat unfamiliar voice said on the other end. "Victoria, it's your father. You haven't forgotten about me, have you?"
She remembered him. He was her biological father, Carson. Her biological mother had passed away a long time ago, and her father had returned to Melanie and had a son named Chen Sheng. When Erica wasn't found by the Griffin Family, her name was Chen Erica, but when she returned to the Griffin Family, she changed her name. However, Victoria never returned to the Gray Family, so she never changed her name.
They didn't contact her much because they were afraid of upsetting the Griffin Family. But why did they suddenly call her now?
"Dad..." Victoria felt very unfamiliar with this man and couldn't help but say, "What's going on?"
"Victoria, we heard that you got married, but you didn't tell us. I heard you married someone from a very prestigious family," Carson's voice sounded excited.
Victoria gripped her hand warily. She remembered that this family was very greedy and used to ask the Griffin Family for money.
"Who told you that?"
"Don't worry about who told us. Let's just meet your good husband. Besides... your younger brother just graduated from vocational school and has nowhere to work. Our house is also going to be demolished, and we have nowhere to live. You see, you married well now, you should help us out, right?"
Victoria didn't need them to say it, she already knew who they were talking about. There weren't many people who knew who she married and had contact with Carson, except for Erica.
They just wanted money from her? Victoria wasn't a fool.
She kept a straight face and spoke in a cold tone, "Dad, I call you dad because we are related by blood, but you have never raised me for a day. You have no reason to ask me for money. Go ask your good daughter who you raised for 18 years and now doesn't want anything to do with you. Who I married is none of your business." After speaking, she hung up the phone directly.
Carson, who was hung up on, was stunned.
Melanie grabbed the phone angrily. "Look at your good daughter, enjoying her own money and not caring about us. She's so selfish."
