Chapter 69
Grandma Cooper got in the car and immediately told the driver, "I'm not going to DT Corp anymore. Take me to Sunshine Kindergarten."
The driver found it strange but didn't say much, and drove off right away.
Along the way, Grandma Cooper gazed out the window, occasionally checking the time.
The driver thought he was driving too slowly and quickly stepped on the gas.
When they arrived at Sunshine Kindergarten, school hadn't let out yet.
Grandma Cooper told the driver to park nearby and wait for dismissal.
The bodyguards exchanged confused looks, none of them understanding why Grandma Cooper would come here.
They remembered that Mr. Jason Cooper didn't have any children...
Finally, when kindergarten let out, watching the kids come out one by one, Grandma Cooper couldn't wait to get out of the car. She clutched the photo in her hand, craning her neck to look around.
But as the crowd thinned out, Grandma Cooper still hadn't spotted Jessica.
She couldn't help but walk up and ask, "Teacher, has Class Two been dismissed yet?"
By coincidence, the person Grandma Cooper asked was the Class Two teacher.
The teacher looked at Grandma Cooper with confusion and surprise. After hesitating for a moment, she asked, "The children have already been dismissed. Which child are you looking for?"
"Jessica Wilson. I'm her great-grandma."
Hearing Grandma Cooper's answer, the teacher was clearly taken aback. "Jessica's mom enrolled her in after-school care."
Grandma Cooper asked, "What's after-school care?"
"It's when parents don't have time to pick up their kids, so teachers watch them at school until 6 PM, and parents pick them up after work." After explaining, the teacher's gaze became suspicious.
"You're Jessica's great-grandma? How come you don't know about this?"
Grandma Cooper's eyes darted around, and she smiled sheepishly. "I'm getting old, don't really understand these modern things young people do."
The teacher thought about it and didn't ask more questions.
However, she added, "But Jessica's mom never mentioned you. How about you wait a moment, and I'll call Jessica's mom to confirm? As long as everything checks out, you can take Jessica home, okay?"
At this, Grandma Cooper's expression changed instantly.
She waved her hands frantically. "No, no, no! Don't tell her mom!"
The teacher paused while pulling out her phone, staring at Grandma Cooper suspiciously, her tone becoming serious. "Wait... you're not a child trafficker, are you?"
"I'm not!" Grandma Cooper never expected the teacher would think of child trafficking and quickly denied it.
The teacher still said suspiciously, "Then why won't you let me call Jessica's mom?"
Grandma Cooper couldn't answer.
What else could it be?
Of course, it was because Jason still hadn't won Sue back!
If Jason had tried harder, Sue and Jessica would already be at home by now!
Grandma Cooper's silence made the teacher even more alert.
The teacher discreetly pulled out her phone, about to call the police.
Grandma Cooper suddenly sighed and lowered her head, wiping away tears. "Teacher, this is kind of embarrassing to say, but it's because of family matters that we can't let the child's mom know."
She paused, looking at the teacher pleadingly, and said, "I just came here today to see Jessica. Teacher, please just let me see her once, I'll just look and leave."
The teacher looked at Grandma Cooper with difficulty and said, "It's not that I don't want to help you, it's just that this goes against the rules."
Her hand holding the phone didn't relax at all.
Grandma Cooper noticed the teacher's still-vigilant gaze and sighed.
No choice, she'd have to leave for now.
"Alright then, I won't see her..." After saying this, Grandma Cooper turned and left dejectedly.
The teacher watched Grandma Cooper's departing figure from afar, her eyes full of hesitation.
According to the rules, in Grandma Cooper's situation, they definitely had to notify the student's parents.
But the teacher watched with her own eyes as Grandma Cooper, looking utterly dejected, got into a luxury car parked not far away.
Could Grandma Cooper, who rode in a luxury car, really be a child trafficker?
The teacher looked down at her phone that hadn't dialed yet, sighed quietly, and put it away.
Grandma Cooper got in the car, looking lost and dejected.
The driver hesitated for a long time before carefully asking, "Mrs. Cooper, where are we going now?"
Grandma Cooper didn't answer.
The driver waited a moment without getting a response. When he looked back, he was startled!
Grandma Cooper was sitting in the back seat, crying!
Grandma Cooper looked at the entrance of Sunshine Kindergarten with teary eyes.
She was right here at the kindergarten entrance, but couldn't even see Jessica once.
But the Cooper family finally had a descendant!
This was such wonderful news!
The bodyguards and driver exchanged confused looks, none understanding why Grandma Cooper would cry like this after visiting a kindergarten.
Since Grandma Cooper didn't say to leave, the driver didn't dare drive away.
They waited like this from 4 PM until 6 PM.
Grandma Cooper watched with her own eyes as Sue got out of a car, squatted down with a smile, and hugged Jessica.
The tears that Grandma Cooper had finally stopped began flowing again.
Just then, Jason called. "Grandma, what are we eating tonight? Why haven't you sent the address yet?"
Grandma Cooper said angrily, "All you think about is eating! No dinner for you!"
Jason asked strangely, "Grandma, what happened?"
"You have the nerve to ask!" Grandma Cooper got angrier the more she thought about it.
Jessica was already four years old, and Jason had no idea!
Who knows what he's been doing all this time!
No wonder Sue doesn't want to get back together with him!
After saying this, Grandma Cooper hung up directly. Jason held his phone, looking completely baffled.
He hadn't eaten yet and was waiting for Grandma Cooper to send him her location.
After waiting forever, instead of getting a location, he called to ask.
Who would've thought he'd get scolded for no reason?
I had no idea what was happening in the luxury car not far away.
After a hard day's work, the moment I saw Jessica's sweet, adorable smile, much of my exhaustion melted away.
"Sweetie, should we eat out today?"
"Yes! Can Jessica have McDonald's?"
Jessica's eyes lit up, looking at me with anticipation.
I thought about it. Jessica hadn't had fast food in a long time.
Having it once in a while shouldn't be a problem.
So I nodded. "Of course we can. Let's go to the mall."
I drove Jessica to a nearby mall, and we sat in the McDonald's there.
Jessica was very sensible. Even though she loved the food, she only ordered a kids' meal.
After eating, I noticed the mall had a trial taekwondo class.
Remembering that Jessica had said she was interested, I took her to try it out.
By the time the trial class ended and we headed home, it was completely dark outside.
We returned to the apartment complex's underground parking garage. Just as we stepped out of the elevator, I looked up and saw a familiar figure.
