Chapter 49
I widened my eyes, staring at him in disbelief, and exclaimed, "How much?!"
"Three hundred thousand."
Jason's expression and tone were more innocent than the last. "These are custom-made by hand. Usually, if they get dirty, people just throw them away."
He looked down at me, his eyes deep. "Given our relationship, I'll give you a discount. Just two hundred ninety thousand, how about that?"
I couldn't help myself and rolled my eyes at Jason.
Damn capitalism, so awful!
Why can't I be one of the rich people in this world?
After working hard for so many years, I haven't even saved up three hundred thousand, and Jason's pair of shoes costs that much?!
Jason curved his lips and said with a smile, "You're welcome. So how do you plan to compensate me?"
I really couldn't afford it.
My attention had been focused on Jason's shoes the whole time, completely failing to notice Jason quietly moving closer.
"I just barely touched them. Can I wash them clean for you?"
I tried to negotiate with Jason.
Jason raised an eyebrow and said, "These shoes can't be washed with water. Water will ruin them."
Seeing my silence, he continued, "But there is another way. Want to hear it?"
I looked up, my eyes questioning.
Jason looked down at me, his eyes filled with only my reflection.
He opened his mouth and answered word by word, "Become my wife. Not only won't you have to pay for the shoes, but from now on you can step on them every day if you want."
"No way." I refused without hesitation.
Nice try! But the three-hundred-thousand-dollar shoes still weighed on my mind.
I thought for a moment and said sincerely, "If they can't be washed with water, can I send them to the dry cleaners? I'll definitely get them clean and return them to you."
Jason didn't answer.
My heart rose to my throat.
The next moment, I felt someone pinch my waist.
I froze all over. Looking down, I saw Jason's hand just resting on my waist, and he had just given it a light squeeze.
"You pervert!" I pushed him away hard and glared at Jason angrily.
I was discussing the shoe issue with him, and he was secretly taking advantage of me!
Jason withdrew his hand smoothly, crossed his arms, and looked down at me leisurely. "No deal. Either you pay me, or marry me."
"I don't have that much money."
"Then I can make a concession. You can be my girlfriend first, and I won't make you pay." Jason said.
"If it doesn't work out, just take me to court. At most, the court will make me pay a cleaning fee."
I backed up several steps warily, putting distance between Jason and me.
Jason was clearly stunned for a moment, then smiled helplessly and said, "When did you get so smart?"
"It's your bad intentions that are too obvious." I retorted angrily and turned to enter the elevator.
Jason followed behind me with his long strides, taking his time.
Why isn't he leaving yet?
Opening my front door, I walked in and quickly tried to close the door!
Jason stuck out his leg and blocked the door with his foot.
I stopped my door-closing motion abruptly, glared at him, and said, "Can you take off your shoes before blocking the door?"
This was three hundred thousand!
If I really damaged the shoes by jamming them, I'd really have to pay.
"If I get injured, the compensation would be even higher," Jason answered methodically. "Hospital fees for the injury, lost wages, emotional distress..."
"Stop, stop, stop! Don't say anymore!" I quickly called a halt.
Jason obediently shut his mouth. He took two steps forward and placed his slippers next to mine.
I could only angrily shuffle back to my room in my slippers.
Usually at this time, I would take a shower and get ready to rest.
I had just taken out my undergarments from the closet when I turned around and saw Jason leaning against the doorway, looking around my bedroom.
"It smells really good, exactly like the scent on your body," Jason commented seriously.
I quickly hid the clothes behind my back and asked, "Why did you come to my bedroom? Get out!"
"Are you embarrassed?" Instead of leaving, Jason took another step closer to me.
My face heated up uncontrollably.
The room that used to belong only to me was now filled with Jason's presence.
"I'm not. Get out." I said.
Jason raised an eyebrow, his fingertips brushing across my burning face. "Your face is so red. What's there to be embarrassed about? We've already done everything we should have done before."
My eyes widened, and my mind involuntarily conjured up scenes of us sleeping together in the past.
I gritted my teeth and was about to speak when a phone call interrupted the intimate moment.
Jason glanced at his phone and turned to go out and take the call.
I seized the opportunity to grab my clothes and rushed into the bathroom.
I closed the door and locked the bathroom door from inside. Only then did my heart settle down a bit.
I didn't expect that after five years, Jason had become even more of a pervert than before.
My heart was pounding hard, as if it was about to jump out of my chest.
I shook my head hard, forcing myself to stop these thoughts.
After showering, I dried my hair in the bathroom.
I had been too nervous when I rushed into the bathroom earlier. I was so focused on locking the bathroom door that I forgot to lock the bedroom door.
After drying my hair in the bathroom for a long time, watching it almost completely dry, I finally carefully pushed open the bathroom door and poked out half my head.
The bedroom was empty. Only then did I breathe a sigh of relief.
Coming out of the bedroom, I didn't see Jason anywhere in the house either.
Jessica appeared at this moment. As if seeing what I was looking for, she said directly, "Mom, Jason already left."
"I see, that's good." I nodded lightly in response, but an irrepressible sense of loss welled up in my heart.
Friday.
I followed Brian to a meeting at Glacier Corp.
When we arrived at Glacier Corp, it wasn't meeting time yet.
I sat beside Brian and asked somewhat curiously, "Mr. Ethan, did your blind date with Miss Perez go well?"
Brian leaned back in his chair. Hearing this, he turned to look at me and answered, "Not well."
"Why?" I was surprised.
Brian was handsome and rich. Although he was an illegitimate child, he was now managing DT Corp.
These conditions should be pretty good.
Brian shrugged and said, "She thinks I'm too much of a playboy and wants me to change, but that's not something I can just change even if I want to!"
I looked at him, at a loss for words, almost forgetting about his various past scandals.
Noticing my gaze, Brian raised an eyebrow and asked, "What? You look disappointed. Do you want me to get married that badly?"
I nodded sincerely. "You are indeed at the age to get married. If the blind date goes well, that would naturally be best."
Brian frowned irritably.
He curled his lips, let out a light snort, and said in an ambiguous tone, "You're really good at thinking about others."
"As Mr. Ethan's assistant, this is all part of my job," I answered calmly.
Brian stared at me, then after a moment, looked away.
