Chapter 310
Chapter 310
Aurelia swayed with each step, her whole demeanor like a willow bending in the wind, looking so fragile it made anyone feel sorry for her.
"Ms. Coleman, we all genuinely care about Old Wang. Elijah's life is hanging by a thread right now, we're all worried, and it's natural to be upset."
Her words were beautifully put, dissolving the awkwardness in the room.
Maya couldn't help but sneer inwardly - Aurelia truly lived up to being Elijah's most favored woman.
Not only did she speak in that soft, gentle voice, but every word struck a chord with everyone present.
Maya's tone was icy: "Are you saying I don't care about him?"
Aurelia blinked, and tears immediately fell.
She raised her hand to wipe her tears, choking up: "I didn't mean that. Ms. Coleman, you're so distinguished, naturally whatever you say goes."
Seeing Aurelia being bullied, Atticus's face immediately darkened.
He shoved aside the person in front of him and rushed to Maya, glaring at her with hostility:
"Maya, that's enough! Just because you have no filial piety doesn't mean you should doubt others! You think we're all like you, cold-hearted and cold-blooded? Dad's in emergency surgery right now and you're not even a bit sad!"
"I never thought there could be someone as cold as you. When you're accusing us, have you ever thought about how much time you've spent with Dad? Every time Dad needed you, where were you?"
Where was she?
She was abroad studying and advancing her career, of course!
She was the Coleman family's only legitimate heir, but because she was a daughter, she had to give it her all, do better than any son, to prove she was the most suitable heir!
And now Atticus was accusing her of not being filial enough?
Be a "filial" waste like him?
What good was filial piety without the ability to manage the company?
Once Elijah died, the whole Coleman Corporation would go downhill!
Aurelia's eyes were red as she gently tugged at Atticus's arm, saying softly: "Atticus, just say less."
She glanced at Maya with a timid tone.
"Ms. Coleman must have her reasons. Let's just say less, otherwise if we upset Ms. Coleman, we probably won't even have the right to stand here anymore."
On the surface, these words seemed submissive.
But between the lines, wasn't she saying that Maya was using her status to bully them?
Most people present weren't particularly distinguished, and after Aurelia's words, everyone's expressions toward Maya became much uglier.
"You're really good at stirring things up. I just came to see my dad, how did I become an unforgivable criminal in you mother and son's mouths?"
Maya's nails dug deep into her palms as she showed an elegant, proper smile on her face.
This was a smile she had practiced countless times in the mirror.
Calm and graceful.
A smile befitting an heir.
Aurelia pressed her lips together: "I didn't mean that."
"It's fine. Whatever you meant, I won't blame you. After all, compared to Atticus running to the company today demanding I give him the CEO position, your few words really aren't that offensive."
At these words, the whole room erupted.
"What does that mean? Atticus, you secretly went to the company?"
"Didn't you tell us we'd drive Maya away first, then split everything equally? You're trying to take it all for yourself!"
"Atticus, have you no shame!"
Atticus's face changed color.
He gritted his teeth: "Everyone shut up! Just because she says something makes it true? She's trying to turn us against each other! Can't you see something so obvious? Is there something wrong with your brains?"
But even so, many people no longer trusted Atticus.
Everyone talked over each other, and the area outside the emergency room suddenly became chaotic.
Maya stepped back to Kinsley's side, coldly watching this farce unfold.
She actually rarely saw these illegitimate children. Information about them either came from Kinsley or was compiled into reports by her subordinates.
This was basically the first time seeing these people.
How to put it? She found them quite boring.
They talked about how much they cared about Elijah, how filial they were, but wasn't it all just about money in the end?
They kept arguing, with Atticus's voice the loudest.
His face was flushed red, his eyes practically shooting fire: "All of you get lost! If I'm willing to share with you, that's your honor. If I'm not willing, you'll just have to deal with it! Don't forget who Dad likes best!"
A nurse couldn't take it anymore and came over with a frown to warn them:
"The patient is being resuscitated right now, please keep quiet! The hospital prohibits loud noise! Otherwise we'll have to ask security to escort you out!"
Hearing this, everyone finally quieted down.
Atticus glared at Maya unwillingly.
Maya didn't care. She turned her head and asked Kinsley in a low voice: "Mom, you said on the phone that Dad's condition suddenly deteriorated?"
Kinsley's brow carried undisguisable fatigue as she sighed:
"I never expected it would happen so fast. It was just a moment, and your dad went straight to the emergency room."
"Did anyone go to the hospital room in between?"
Maya asked.
Kinsley froze for a moment, as if suddenly thinking of something, and lowered her voice:
"Are you suspecting your dad he..."
Maya gave an imperceptible nod, interrupting Kinsley's words:
"Mom, you haven't had lunch yet, right? Let's go out and eat first."
There was no point staying here.
There were already enough people waiting here.
Kinsley understood and nodded. The two quietly left the hospital.
Private room at a café outside the hospital.
Maya carefully asked Kinsley about the details before Elijah was taken for emergency treatment.
Kinsley pressed her lips tight, her expression uncertain:
"I remember Cecilia came, with her child."
Cecilia Thorne was Elijah's youngest mistress, whose child was still in kindergarten.
Maya frowned slightly: "She has no reason to harm Dad. No matter how you look at it, her son is too young and has no competitive advantage at all."
"That's what I think too."
Kinsley sighed, worry coloring her brow:
"What do we do now? Your dad might not make it through, and I heard he made a will before. If he really gives the company to Atticus, what will we do in the future?"
She looked up at Maya, her eyes holding hidden expectation:
"Maya, how are things with you and Jason now? You two have been childhood friends, with such deep ties, it should be fine, right?"
Maya bit her lip hard.
Fine?
She thought about how Jason had rejected her.
If she hadn't made a move against me before, Jason might have helped for the sake of the two families' relationship.
But now...
Maya shook her head bitterly.
She took a deep breath, her eyes gradually becoming determined: "It's okay. Even without the Cooper family, I can still protect what belongs to us."
Kinsley understood now.
She wiped away tears: "Maya, Mom knows you're reluctant, but now that Jason is married, can you consider other people?"
