Chapter 232
Before Victoria could even speak, a powerful force slammed her against the wall!
She let out a wail and fell heavily to the ground, unable to get up for a moment.
"Grab her!"
Jason's voice was ice-cold, his eyes churning with a storm of rage as if he wanted to skin Victoria alive.
He rushed to my side, carefully supporting my swaying body.
The man who was usually decisive and ruthless now had red-rimmed eyes, his voice trembling with nervousness. "Honey, just hang in there, the doctor will be here soon."
I was already numb from the pain.
I seemed to have lost too much blood, and now my brain felt foggy.
So cold.
That was the last thought in my mind.
The moment before my vision completely blurred, what I saw was Jason's panicked face.
This was the first time I'd ever seen him look so frantic.
Pain, terrible pain in my stomach.
The instant my consciousness returned, that was my only sensation.
I struggled to open my eyes, but could only see the hospital's white ceiling.
I tried to sit up, but someone held me down.
"Honey, don't move. You have a wound on your stomach—if you move around, it'll tear open."
I turned my head and met Jason's bloodshot eyes.
He seemed like he hadn't rested in a long time. His eyes were ringed with dark circles, his face was stubbly, and he looked particularly haggard.
"Where's Jessica?"
As soon as I spoke, my hoarse voice startled even myself.
"She's sleeping in the next room. Don't worry, Jessica is fine."
Jason held my hand.
"Honey, you were unconscious for two days. You nearly scared me to death!"
Two days?
No wonder my whole body felt so stiff, as if it wasn't even my own anymore.
"Honey, wait a moment. I'll go get the doctor to check on you."
Jason planted a kiss on my forehead, "Don't worry, Victoria has been arrested. There's no more danger."
Only then did I feel relieved.
The doctor came and carefully examined my wound, asked a few simple questions, and then nodded.
"It's good that you're awake. You're completely out of danger now, but you need to stay in the hospital for treatment. It's best not to get out of bed so the wound can heal properly."
"Thank you, doctor."
After the doctor left, Jason sat back down by the bed.
He held my hand and pressed it against his face.
His eyes reddened in front of me.
I felt helpless and curved my lips into a smile. "What's wrong? I'm fine, aren't I? Why are you about to cry?"
"Honey, you scared me to death this time. When I saw you covered in blood, my heart almost stopped."
When Jason mentioned this, his voice was still shaking, clearly shaken by the experience.
"I had already decided—if something happened to you, I would die with you."
I quickly reached out to cover his mouth.
"Don't ever say that again! And even if that really happened, if you died with me, what about Jessica? She's still so young—could you really bear to leave her without both parents?"
But Jason was particularly stubborn about this.
He shook his head, "It's not like our family has no one left. Grandma and my dad can take care of Jessica, but I only have one wife. If you weren't here, there'd be no point in me living."
I shook my head helplessly and didn't dwell on this matter.
First of all, I was still alive!
Second, who goes around imagining scenarios where they're dead?
My stomach hurt quite a bit.
I couldn't help but furrow my brow.
Jason immediately became tense.
"Honey, is your wound uncomfortable? I'll go get the doctor right now!"
"No, no need."
I quickly stopped him, "It's just normal discomfort, no need to call the doctor."
Only then did Jason sit back down, but his eyes remained fixed on me without blinking.
Being stared at like this made me uncomfortable.
"Honey, why do you keep staring at me?"
"If I don't watch you, I feel like you'll disappear the next second."
Jason was extremely serious.
Me: "I won't. I'm lying in bed recovering right now, not going anywhere."
Jason: "Still not okay. I have to keep watching you."
Well, if he wanted to watch, then let him watch.
At noon, Lila brought food.
After I woke up, Jason immediately called her and asked her to make chicken soup.
Lila set down the thermos and looked at me with concern, "Mrs. Cooper, how are you feeling now?"
"Pretty good."
I nodded with a smile.
If I weren't stuck in bed, I'd want to go to the next room to see Jessica.
Victoria's terrifying, crazed appearance had scared me badly—Jessica must have been frightened too.
"That's good, that's good. Mrs. Cooper, you don't know—when everyone found out you were injured, they were all terrified. Mrs. Tamsin Cooper was especially anxious, praying for your safety at home!"
Only then did Lila breathe a sigh of relief.
I was surprised, "Grandma knows too?"
"Yes, Victoria's incident caused quite a stir. When the police took her away, half the hospital was disturbed—there was no way to keep it secret."
Lila explained, "That's when Mrs. Tamsin Cooper found out. She originally wanted to come to the hospital to take care of you, but she got so anxious that she felt unwell, and the family doctor required her to rest at home."
Hearing this, my heart tightened.
"Is Grandma okay?"
"She's fine. Mrs. Cooper, just focus on recovering in the hospital. Once you're better, everyone will feel at ease."
Lila comforted me.
Jason took the other thermos Lila brought and went next door to help Jessica eat.
Lila watched Jason's departing figure and couldn't help but sigh to me.
"Mrs. Cooper, your accident really worried Mr. Cooper sick. He's been staying at the hospital these past few days. We offered to replace him so he could go home and rest, but Mr. Cooper refused. He didn't say much, just stayed by the bedside until you woke up."
"Mr. Cooper really loves you to death!"
I didn't expect Jason to have watched over me for several days like that.
My heart felt both sour and full.
I really worried him this time.
After eating, my eyelids started fighting each other.
After asking Lila to check on Jessica, I couldn't resist the drowsiness and fell asleep.
When I woke up again, it was almost evening.
Looking around the room, I didn't see Jason.
Just as I was thinking he must have gone to work and was about to pass the time on my phone, I suddenly heard Jason's cold, hard voice at the door.
"Get lost. You're not welcome here."
Then came Luke's voice, "Sue is sick. We're her family—can't we come see her?"
"Jason, even though you're Sue's husband now, you can't be so selfish and heartless. You can't take away Sue's right to spend time with her family."
"We heard she was injured. We just want to come see her and show some concern. Are you going to stop us from even doing that?"
Luke's voice made me want to laugh.
Concerned about me?
More like concerned about his job prospects!
Jason: "If Sue wanted you to come, she would say so herself. Right now, you don't need to flatter yourselves."
Well said!
I gave Jason a mental thumbs up.
He understood me so well—he was truly my soulmate!
