Chapter 222
When Jason heard this, he immediately shut his laptop and stood up, "Let's go."
I stared at him wide-eyed, "What about work? You're not doing it anymore?"
Jason said matter-of-factly, "So what? Employees get weekends off, and I'm the boss now, so of course I get weekends too!"
He had a point.
But I still looked at Jason sympathetically.
"Mr. Cooper, you don't even get time off. How pitiful."
Jason put on a pitiful expression to play along, "Yeah, just thinking about how much money keeps flowing in every minute makes me feel so pitiful!"
I groaned. "Ugh! You totally pulled that off!"
He took the opportunity to put his arm around me, resting his head on my shoulder.
"So what, honey? My money is your money."
"True, then let's not go out. You work hard."
I bit my lip to hold back a laugh, turned around and wrapped my arms around Jason's neck, standing on my toes to kiss him.
Jason's eyes darkened. One hand gripped my waist while the other pressed against the back of my head, deepening the kiss.
The kiss became more passionate, and the atmosphere around us grew increasingly intimate.
I quickly pushed him away, "No! This isn't a daytime activity!"
Jason's breathing was hot, his hand restlessly wandering and caressing my waist.
His voice was hoarse, "So it's a nighttime one?"
I glared at him, "Are we going out or not?"
"Yes, I'll go change."
Jason nodded and reluctantly let me go.
Actually, I hadn't planned where to go or what to do today.
It just happened to be the weekend, and I wanted to go out with Jason.
The two of us walked hand in hand down the street.
I looked down at our clasped hands, my heart filled with happiness.
"Jason."
"What is it?"
"Will you keep holding my hand like this, forever?"
I asked.
Jason's grip on my hand tightened, "Of course."
He spoke word by word, his tone serious and sincere, "I'll hold your hand forever, this life, the next life, and the life after that."
I couldn't help but laugh, "You actually talk about the next life."
Jason nodded, "Of course, one lifetime is too short. I want to be with you for all eternity."
We wandered around outside all afternoon, then picked up Jessica from school together.
We had dinner out that evening.
My phone suddenly vibrated twice.
I opened it to see a notice from Jessica's kindergarten teacher in the class group chat.
"Tomorrow afternoon, parent-teacher conference?"
I was a bit surprised.
This was the first time the school was holding a parent-teacher conference.
Jessica looked confused.
She only went to school two or three days a week and wasn't very interested in school matters.
Jessica thought for a long time but couldn't remember anything about a parent-teacher conference.
"Mom, wait, let me make a call to ask."
After Jessica said this, she directly made a call on her children's smartwatch.
The call was answered after just one ring.
"Jessica, what's up?"
It was Coco's voice.
I raised an eyebrow. These two had even exchanged contact information?
Jessica said, "Coco, are we having a parent-teacher conference tomorrow?"
Coco replied, "Yeah, the teacher mentioned it a few days ago. Oh right, Jessica, you weren't in class that day, I forgot to tell you."
"The teacher said we're graduating soon, so they're having a parent-teacher conference or something."
Jessica said, "Okay, thank you."
After hanging up, Jessica looked at me, her eyes showing a hint of anticipation.
"Mom, will you go?"
I was a bit torn.
If this was before I had a job, I would have agreed right away.
But tomorrow was Monday, a workday.
But looking at Jessica's expectant eyes, I found it hard to say no.
"Mom will try to see if she can get time off, okay?"
Jessica nodded vigorously, then added, "If Mom doesn't have time, then let Dad go."
Jason was eating his meal leisurely and raised an eyebrow, "I'm the second choice?"
Jessica pouted and didn't answer.
I laughed, "Why are you competing with a child?"
Jason said, "Just stating facts."
I looked at him helplessly.
What a petty man, competing with a child?
After dinner, on the way home.
Jason drove while I messaged Ophelia to request time off.
Actually, I was a bit nervous.
After all, Ophelia was a very strict boss in my impression.
To my surprise, Ophelia agreed quite easily.
[No problem, the project is already on track. Just don't fall behind on work.]
For my first time attending Jessica's parent-teacher conference, I got up extra early and carefully selected from my closet.
Jason had woken up too and was leaning against the headboard, watching me with an amused expression.
"You've been going back and forth for so long and still haven't decided?"
"You don't understand!"
I held up two outfits, comparing them in front of the mirror, "This is our daughter's first parent-teacher conference, of course I have to take it seriously. But I can't be too formal later, or it'll seem like I'm trying too hard."
Jason got out of bed, pulled out a beige dress from the closet, and matched it with a jacket in the same color.
"Try this one."
It looked pretty good. I took it and went to the bathroom to change.
When I came out of the bathroom, I saw Jason had also changed into a beige casual suit.
I was stunned, "What's this?"
"You said this is Jessica's first parent-teacher conference. As her dad, I naturally have to attend too."
Jason came over and put his arm around my waist.
The two of us in the mirror looked perfect together.
"This looks great."
I nodded with satisfaction and went downstairs with Jason.
When Jessica learned that both Jason and I were going to the parent-teacher conference today, she was thrilled.
After breakfast, we drove to the kindergarten.
When Jason appeared in the classroom, he immediately attracted a lot of attention.
Octavia walked over in surprise, "Mrs. Cooper, Mr. Cooper, you're both attending the parent-teacher conference?"
I nodded, "Yes, it's our child's first parent-teacher conference, so we decided to take it seriously."
There was envy in Octavia's eyes.
"Mr. Cooper is really family-oriented. My husband's mind is all on work. Forget parent-teacher conferences, he barely even looks after the kids."
She took out a delicate little box from her bag and placed it in front of me.
"Thank you so much for what happened with Coco last time. I've been in the hospital recovering and haven't been able to visit to thank you properly. This is a thank-you gift."
I tried to decline, "It was just a small favor, and Casey already gave me advantages in our business cooperation."
But Octavia insisted, "Please take it. It's not very expensive, just a token of my appreciation. Work matters are work matters, and this doesn't conflict with that."
Only then did I nod and accept it.
I chatted with Octavia for a bit more.
Jessica and Coco came over together.
Coco greeted us sweetly and softly.
"Mrs. Cooper, Mr. Cooper, hello."
Jessica added from the side, "Mom, I want to invite Coco to study with me! She's very smart, and I think she can take classes at home with me."
I was stunned and didn't agree right away, instead looking at Octavia.
Octavia was obviously surprised too.
But she wasn't angry. Instead, she gently asked Jessica, "Jessica, why do you say that?"
