Chapter 22

Chapter 22

After the plane landed, I started working with Brian right away.

I didn't have time to check on what Jason and Jessica were doing.

It wasn't until the afternoon, when my work temporarily came to a pause, that I finally had a moment to call Jessica.

I asked, "Jessica, are you doing okay with Uncle Jason?"

Jessica answered cheerfully, "I'm great! Don't worry, Uncle Jason takes really good care of me. He even brought me to work with him!"

My heart sank. Jason took Jessica to the company. What was Jason trying to do?

I couldn't help but get nervous and quickly asked, "Did anyone ask you anything?"

Given Jason's position, suddenly bringing a child to the company would definitely cause a huge stir.

Wasn't he worried at all?

"Yes, they asked if I was Uncle Jason's child." Jessica's words hit me like a ton of bricks.

"What did you say?" I asked carefully.

Right now, Jessica should still be at Glacier Corp, so I didn't dare ask too many details.

What if Jason was nearby and noticed something?

Jessica laughed and deliberately drew out her words, "Of course I let them guess!"

My anxious heart finally settled down.

Then I felt both amused and exasperated. This kid, Jessica, was quite cunning.

I gave Jessica a few more caring reminders before reluctantly hanging up.

Being separated from your child always makes you worry.

But Jessica was smart, and Jason was willing to keep her by his side, which showed he really liked Jessica.

There shouldn't be any problems.

Actually, regarding Jessica's background, I had planned to keep it secret forever.

It would be best if neither the Cooper family nor Jason knew about Jessica's existence.

But after these recent encounters, I could see clearly.

Jessica really liked Jason.

Even though Jessica didn't say it later, I knew she liked having a dad and wanted a dad by her side.

In that case, I did have plans to tell Jason about Jessica's background.

It's just that I wasn't mentally prepared yet, and hadn't figured out how to tell Jason.

But I didn't want Jessica to suffer.

I pushed the messy thoughts out of my mind and threw myself back into work.

After finishing during the day, there was a dinner party in the evening.

I sat beside Brian with a standard professional smile on my face.

My phone buzzed, and when I looked down, it was actually a video call from Jason!

I was scared to death and quickly covered my phone, saying quietly to Brian, "Mr. Ethan, let me step out to take a call."

"Your friend?" Brian asked.

"Yes, yes." I nodded quickly.

"Go ahead," Brian said.

After leaving the private room, I found a quiet hallway and finally answered just before the call automatically disconnected.

I had thought of many possibilities.

Was Jessica missing her mom? Or did Jason not have experience taking care of kids?

All my worries completely disappeared when I saw Jason's handsome face on the phone screen.

Jason was wearing casual home clothes, standing on the balcony, with dim light casting shadows on his sharp features.

"Still out socializing?" Jason asked.

"Yeah," I nodded.

"Drinking party?"

"Yeah."

"You haven't been drinking, have you?"

"No."

"Has Brian been drinking?"

"Yes."

Hearing him say this, I was even more confused.

He suddenly made a video call just to ask these things?

Jason stared at me, his thin lips moved, and then he said, "If he's been drinking, stay away from him."

I instantly understood what he meant!

"Mr. Cooper, this is my private matter; you don't need to worry about it."

I said angrily, "Jason, don't you think you're acting really strange right now? You clearly said at first that you weren't interested in me, but then you took the initiative to kiss me, you..."

Feeling wronged, I pressed my lips together hard, unable to continue.

So what if I was angry that Jason suddenly kissed me? Didn't I get lost in it, too?

Now, if I made a big fuss with him over one kiss and said all this, wouldn't that just prove that I couldn't forget him?

If Jason sensed my feelings, he'd probably think I had ulterior motives and was after his money again.

Jason's expression in the video turned cold.

The more I looked, the angrier and more wronged I felt. I bit my lip and said, "Jason, please watch your boundaries from now on!"

Jason's face turned completely dark. His eyes were deep, with anger surging.

"Sue." Jason's words were almost squeezed out through his teeth, "I'm giving you friendly advice to stay safe when you're out, what do you take me for!"

"Well, thanks for the reminder! But I'm perfectly safe!" I replied without hesitation.

"Even if you don't think about yourself, at least think about Jessica!" Jason's voice turned cold, as a bucket of cold water was poured over my head.

Was he threatening me with Jessica? I was shaking with anger, feeling wronged and furious.

I took a deep breath and shouted angrily, "Jason, you're really annoying right now!"

With that, I hung up directly.

On the other end, Jason held his phone with a rare look of shock on his face.

He was annoying?!

What was annoying about him?

He gave friendly advice, and that was wrong?!

Jason's expression was heavy.

He wanted to call back, but couldn't bring himself to do it.

Just then, Jessica came out after her bath.

Seeing Jason's grim expression, she blinked her big eyes and came over to ask, "What's wrong? Are you in a bad mood?"

Jason stared at Jessica for two seconds, then suddenly asked, "Jessica, do you miss Sue? Do you want to video call Sue?"

Jessica tilted her little head, thought for a moment, then gently shook her head and said, "No need, thank you. Sue called me during the day."

Jason wouldn't give up and continued asking, "But if you video call, you can see Sue. Don't you want to see Sue?"

Jessica looked at Jason seriously and asked, "Do you want to call Sue?"

Jason's whole body stiffened, and he acted casual. "I don't."

"Then I don't need to either. I'm a bit sleepy. Good night." After Jessica finished speaking, she went back to her room.

Jason stood there stiffly.

Why did it feel like they were both more annoying than the other?

Jessica definitely noticed something, right?

After angrily hanging up on Jason, I took deep breaths to completely calm my emotions before returning to the private room.

Mr. Phillips, who was discussing the partnership with us, saw me return.

He held his wine glass and looked at me with ill intent through his drunkenness. "Ms. Wilson was away for so long, shouldn't you drink more when you come back?"

"Mr. Phillips, I'm really sorry, my assistant can't drink. Let me do it."

Before I could speak, Brian proactively picked up his wine glass and stood up.
