Chapter 181
"Luke, I'm afraid I'm going to disappoint you."
My voice was calm as I met his angry gaze head-on, "I'm definitely going to be happy, but you—not so sure. A divorced man like you wanting happiness? Pretty much impossible."
Luke frowned but didn't respond to that.
"Sue, I don't want to talk about all this nonsense with you. Just get Mom up right now. Making your own mother kneel to you—aren't you afraid it'll shorten your life!"
"Did I make her kneel?"
I shot back.
"Her legs are her own. If she wants to kneel, who can make her get up?"
I shrugged, and under Luke's increasingly dark expression, I continued, "Besides, with so many people here, I'll just pretend she's kneeling to Grandma."
"Sue!"
Luke raised his voice, "Can't you just agree to what she's asking?"
"Agree to what?"
A cold, serious voice rang out as Jason walked in from outside.
He was tall, and the shadow he cast felt heavy, full of pressure.
I looked at him, my eyes lighting up.
Jason walked to my side and took my hand.
His warm, large hand wrapped around mine, the warmth spreading from my palm through my whole body.
I blinked, my eyes getting a bit hot, but my heart felt warm.
This is nice.
Now I'm not alone anymore.
I have many people around me who truly care about and protect me.
Luke got straight to the point, "Jason, give the Miller family's project back to them."
Jason looked at him coldly, "Who do you think you are? You think you can order me around?"
Luke said, "I'm Sue's older brother."
"You think you qualify?"
"You!"
Luke wanted to say more, but Jason's cold glance made him shut his mouth immediately.
Jason's gaze swept over everyone, his tone icy, "This is a warning to the Miller Group. If the Miller family dares to harass Sue again, they'll lose more than just a few projects."
"Don't talk to me about being relatives. I don't recognize that."
After Jason finished speaking, he pulled me by the hand and left the private room.
The other Cooper family members followed behind us.
What I didn't know was that after we left, Cora stopped kneeling too and just collapsed on the floor.
She looked defeated and helpless, "Ember, you saw it yourself. I said everything I could, did everything I could. I tried my best. Sue won't listen to me. Don't take it out on my son."
Ember glared at her viciously, "Cora, you're really useless. You can't even control your own daughter! Even if she marries Jason, you as her mother probably won't get any benefits."
Cora kept her head down, her lips moving but saying nothing.
She was full of regret.
If only she had been nicer to me back then, things probably wouldn't have turned out like this.
Jason pulled me into his car.
"Wait!"
Charles suddenly called out to us, running over with all the shopping bags I'd bought earlier, "These are Sue's things."
I turned around—I'd almost forgotten about them.
"Thanks, I can take them myself."
"It's fine, Sue. I'll put them in the back seat for you."
Charles avoided my hand and quickly placed everything in the car, then waved at us, "Bye!"
"Bye."
I waved goodbye to everyone, then left with Jason.
Jason was driving. I turned my head to look at his handsome profile, a bit surprised that Jason had actually come.
"Did Kelly call you?"
"Yeah, she mentioned it in the group chat."
Only then did I remember that Kelly had indeed been on her phone in the passenger seat when we set out.
I thought she was just complaining at the time, but she was actually calling for backup.
And so many people from the Cooper family came.
"Actually, you didn't need to come. They wouldn't dare do anything to me."
I thought for a moment and said.
After all, making the entire Cooper family mobilize because of me made me feel a bit embarrassed.
This was a feeling I'd never experienced before.
Hearing this, Jason glanced at me and said seriously, "Sue, you need to remember—from now on, you're not alone. You have me, you have the Cooper family. We're all by your side, backing you up."
My heart felt warm.
I smiled, "I know. Thank you, and thank them for me too."
Although we missed five years.
At least from now on, the outcome is good.
Jason reached out one hand to hold mine, saying softly, "Sue, let's get married."
I froze, looking at him in surprise.
Jason laughed, "Why are you looking at me like that? I thought us getting married was a done deal."
I pressed my lips together slightly, not responding.
Marriage?
Of course I'd thought about it. I really wanted to walk into the marriage hall with the person I love.
But marriage isn't just about two people.
It was fine before I knew about my background, but now that I know I'm an illegitimate child, things are different.
Although I don't care about Cora and Tyler, my identity is truly awkward. If we just get married like this, would it have a bad impact on Jason?
And Tyler is so shameless—would he use me again to go after the Cooper family?
The more I thought about these things, the more concerns I had.
The idea of marriage became increasingly shelved.
Jason didn't get my answer, and his brow furrowed, "Haven't you thought about marrying me?"
"Jason, I..."
I wanted to explain, but Jason cut me off.
"It's okay. If you haven't thought about it before, we can start thinking about it now."
I closed my mouth and swallowed my words.
Based on my understanding of Jason, if I said it out loud, he wouldn't care even if there were problems.
This was something I'd have to get past on my own.
The car drove for a while. The scenery outside looked familiar, but this wasn't the way home.
"Where are we going?"
"To the company. Keep me company at work."
My lips moved.
I'd been trying to dodge this before, but today he caught his chance and brought me straight here.
Whatever. Considering Jason specially came to back me up today, keeping him company at work isn't unacceptable.
I followed Jason to his office.
Before long, a man in a suit walked in.
The man respectfully handed Jason a document, "Mr. Jason Cooper, everything is ready."
"Mr. Thomas Cooper has already signed it. Now we just need Ms. Wilson's signature, and this share transfer agreement will take effect."
I was a bit confused listening to this.
What share transfer agreement?
And it needs my signature?
Jason handed me the document and a pen together, "Sue, sign it."
I looked at him blankly, "What does this mean?"
Jason said, "Shares in Glacier Corp that my dad is transferring to you. Two percent."
"The board has already agreed, and my dad signed it. Now you just need to sign."
The lawyer in the suit added, "Originally, Mr. Jason Cooper wanted to transfer shares under his own name to you, but Mr. Thomas Cooper, considering Mr. Jason Cooper's management rights in the group, decided to transfer part of his own shares to you instead."
Now I understood completely.
I opened my mouth but couldn't speak for a long time.
"Jason, this is too valuable. I can't accept it."
