Chapter 165
I'm in a bit of a dilemma.
I'm a softie - as soon as someone says a few more words, I can't help but waver.
Not to mention Kelly going on and on like this, acting all cute.
Jason said quietly at this moment, "She's not going."
Kelly pouted unhappily, "Jason, you're being way too controlling. Sue isn't even working yet, why can't you just let her go out and have fun? She's only saying no to me because of you!"
Jason ignored her and turned to look at me, "Am I controlling?"
I nodded quite honestly.
Didn't he realize it at all?
Jason fell into an odd silence for a moment before finally saying, "Then you decide for yourself whether to go or not."
Kelly immediately looked at me with eager eyes, "Come on, come on, Sue, just come with me! I promise it'll be super fun, you definitely won't regret it!"
I really couldn't resist her enthusiasm, so I had to nod.
"Okay, but the concert tickets..."
Although I wasn't interested in concerts, I had heard that tickets were hard to get.
Kelly immediately patted her chest, "Leave it to me! I'm a pro at getting tickets!"
I nodded, "Then I'll give you the money later."
"No need, no need!"
Kelly waved her hands repeatedly, her tone excited, "Jason will reimburse it, right..."
Kelly turned to look at Jason, successfully meeting Jason's somewhat gloomy face.
She shrank her neck, swallowed, and successfully changed her tune, "I'll treat Sue to the show! With our relationship, we don't need to split things so clearly!"
I agreed, thinking I'd look up the ticket price later and transfer the money to Kelly.
After eating at Old Mansion, Jason and I took Jessica home.
After letting Jessica put away her own gifts, I finally opened the gift George sent me.
I thought there wouldn't be much money in it, but it turned out not to be cash at all - it was a bank card.
I was a bit stunned.
Is this how rich people give gifts?
Not cash, but bank cards?
Following the bank card that fell out was also a note with the password written on it.
When Jason came out of the shower, I immediately rushed up to him, anxiously grabbing his arm, "Jason! Uncle George gave me a bank card!"
Jason's expression was very calm as he patted my head, "If he gave it to you, just keep it."
I was a bit uneasy, "How much money is in here?"
"I don't know."
"Jason!"
Only then did Jason think for a moment and gave me a number, "I'd guess at least ten million dollars."
The bank card in my hand instantly became incredibly hot to handle.
I immediately shoved the bank card into Jason's hand, "No way, this is too much!"
If I had known the gift was a bank card, there's no way I would have accepted it!
Jason grabbed my hand and pushed the card back to me.
"Keep it. This is Uncle George's goodwill, and besides, it's only ten million dollars. To Uncle George, that's not much. Just accept it and spend it however you want."
My mouth twitched, "Ten million dollars isn't much? Jason, you have a lot of money, but Uncle George is just a journalist, out in the sun and wind every day. Look how tan Uncle George got from being abroad - making money must be really hard for him. No, no, I can't take it."
I shook my head desperately.
How could I take an elder's hard-earned money! And ten million dollars at that!
Jason couldn't help but laugh.
He hugged me, kissed my cheek, and comforted me, "Don't worry, Uncle George just loves being a journalist - he doesn't rely on it for a living. As a member of the Cooper family, his annual company dividends alone are over a hundred million dollars. Don't be fooled by his casual dress - he just likes dressing that way, it's not because he's struggling. He's very wealthy. Ten million dollars is nothing to him."
I opened my mouth but couldn't speak for a long while.
So this is what rich people are like?
I really am ignorant.
Jason kissed me again, "This is just a little meeting gift. When we get married, everyone will give you wedding gifts too."
I examined the bank card. What was originally a light piece of plastic now felt somewhat heavy.
I still couldn't help but sigh, "Jason, ever since being with you, I feel like ten million dollars has become as worthless as a hundred dollars."
Jason smiled, "Sue, you need to get used to it."
I looked at him wearily, "I'm poor - I can't get used to it."
Jason smiled even brighter, "It's okay, we have plenty of time for you to slowly adjust."
Hearing him say this, a sweet feeling rose in my heart.
But this card...
Jason said at least ten million dollars, but he didn't know exactly how much. I'd have to go to the bank tomorrow to check.
With this card on my mind, I tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep.
Maybe this is what happens when you're too poor - suddenly having a huge sum of money makes it really hard to fall asleep.
Just as I was lost in thought, Jason suddenly rolled over and pinned me down.
He lowered his head and nibbled at my lips, his voice low and sticky, "Sue, you're keeping me awake. Now I have to punish you."
Without giving me a chance to react, he kissed me directly.
What followed was an intense workout that left me drenched in sweat.
After all that, I was exhausted and had no energy left to think about the bank card. I fell into a deep sleep.
The next afternoon, I got a call from Lily.
"Sue, you have no idea how awful Ryan is - he actually forced a kiss on me in the office and bit my lip!"
I answered with a smile, "You two are so wild."
Lily said irritably, "Sue!"
I cleared my throat, "Go on, go on."
Lily said, "I'm so mad!"
I was surprised, "What's there to be mad about? If he forced a kiss on you, just force one back on him. Who's afraid of who!"
There was an odd silence on the other end of the phone before Lily continued, "I really think I'm going to lose it eventually. I can't stop thinking about his body, and now we're together every day. I'm really afraid I won't be able to control myself one day."
Actually, I really wanted to say that it wasn't just Ryan's body she couldn't forget - she clearly couldn't let go of Ryan as a whole person.
But thinking about Lily's last terrible relationship, and the fact that Ryan's family was also wealthy, I swallowed those words back down.
What if Ryan was also just playing around? What would Lily do then?
Lily was still sighing on the phone, "Everyone's gossiping now. Our thing will probably reach Mr. Scott's ears before long, and the show for my book isn't even finished filming yet!"
I comforted her, "It's okay, it hasn't happened yet, right? Worst case, we'll deal with it as it comes."
Lily agreed, "I know. Talking to you about it makes me feel much better."
That evening, Jason was leaning against the headboard, looking down at his phone replying to messages.
I was lying on his lap, thinking about Lily's situation, playing with the hem of his shirt while asking, "Jason, you and Ryan are good friends, right?"
Jason looked up at me, "That's right. What's up?"
"So you know Ryan pretty well, right?"
"Pretty much. We've been good friends since childhood."
"So do you think Ryan is serious about Lily?"
