Chapter 16
"No!" I retorted without hesitation, looking away. "You deliberately went to take a shower..."
"This is my house. Do I need to report to you when I take a shower?" Jason shot back.
My heart raced, my mind filled with images of Jason's particularly attractive chest and abs. My voice trembled, "But there's someone in your house right now!"
He couldn't possibly be trying to seduce me, could he?
Jason laughed. He took a step forward, and I immediately panicked and backed away several steps. "Don't come closer!"
Jason obediently stopped where he was, crossed his arms, and spoke mockingly, "Don't worry, you're not my type."
He looked me up and down critically and said, "You're not that good-looking, but you sure think highly of yourself."
I pressed my lips together and muttered quietly, "That's still better than you running around with different women."
Not his type? Who was it that used to hold me every night?
Now he doesn't like me and thinks I'm ugly?
Whatever else, I'm quite confident about my looks.
Over the years, many men have shown interest in me. Fortunately, with Jessica around, once they see I have a child, they immediately change their attitude and leave. That saves me a lot of trouble.
"I've been waiting forever. Where's my car?" I looked up, my cheeks still a bit hot.
Jason didn't answer, just stared at me with deep, intense eyes.
I was about to press him again when Jason suddenly turned and strode toward the kitchen.
The sound of pouring water was especially obvious in the quiet room.
I secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Good thing Jason turned away first. Otherwise, if we kept staring at each other like that, I really wouldn't be able to help falling for him.
Jason's face has a huge attraction for me.
Back then, I fell for Jason at first sight and pursued him passionately.
I'd "accidentally" run into him on his usual routes, pull strings to get on the same project teams so we could spend more time together, pay attention to his preferences, and give him gifts he'd like.
I can say that to pursue Jason, I used up the greatest courage and passion of my life.
After we got together, we were sweet and loving. Life wasn't wealthy, but it was full of hope.
Back then, I really thought we'd be forever, but reality was far crueler than imagination.
My thoughts were interrupted by footsteps.
Jason came back, some water still on his lips.
I pulled back my wandering thoughts and asked, "Where's my car?"
I just wanted to grab the car and leave quickly.
Staying here any longer would only add useless worries and hopeless expectations.
Jason frowned, his voice suddenly cold. "It's not fixed yet."
"If it's not fixed, why did you call me here?" I was getting a bit angry. Was he playing me for a fool?!
"I added you on Facebook. Why didn't you accept?" Jason asked instead of answering.
I stared at him in disbelief and said, "You called me here just for this? How childish are you?"
Is this person really Jason?
"It's more convenient to message you on Facebook when the car is fixed," Jason answered seriously.
"You could just call me directly."
"I don't like phone calls."
"Texting works too."
"No."
Jason suddenly sneered, "Don't tell me you think adding me on Facebook means you still have a chance? Or is it that Brian won't let you add other men on Facebook?"
I didn't want to add Jason because I didn't want to give myself unnecessary hopes.
"Phone." Jason held out his hand to me.
Thinking I could just mute him after adding him on Facebook, I gave him my phone.
Jason skillfully added himself as a friend, and when he returned the phone to me, he smiled gently and said, "There, done."
"So when will my car be fixed?" I put away my phone and asked persistently.
Jason stared at me intently and asked, "Do you care that much about the car?"
"You don't have to squeeze onto the subway for work, so of course you don't understand us regular employees' pain."
Thinking about not getting my long-awaited car today, I felt quite resentful.
It wouldn't be convenient to take Jessica out on Saturday, and when the workweek came, I'd have to squeeze onto the subway again.
The more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I glared at Jason irritably.
Jason casually tossed me a car key and said, "That's easy to solve. Take the Lamborghini outside."
I dodged like I'd been electrocuted, shaking my head repeatedly. "I don't want it. That car is worth more than my life."
If I accidentally scratched or bumped it, wouldn't I have to work for Jason my whole life to pay him back?
Jason raised an eyebrow and said, "I'll drive you then."
I shook my head even harder! That was even worse.
If Jason drove me to DT Corp today, by tomorrow, all of Seaside City would be saying I'm Jason's mistress.
That status is even worse than being an ex-girlfriend.
Jason suddenly reached out and grabbed my chin.
The unexpected contact made me freeze instantly, staring blankly into Jason's increasingly deep gaze.
He leaned in and kissed me.
I was completely stunned.
Jason's kiss was fierce and urgent, carrying his current habitual intensity and dominance.
His familiar scent enveloped me, the familiar touch easily awakening my body that had been dormant for five years.
My eyelashes trembled slightly. In the end, I couldn't resist the stirring in my heart. I actively hooked my arms around his neck and responded to the kiss.
Just once.
I told myself.
Just cross the line this once.
The lingering kiss gradually raised the temperature around us. My body went soft, held in Jason's arms, my mind in complete chaos.
Jason gently bit my lip and murmured hoarsely, "I admit, you're very attractive to me."
My body touched something hard.
I instantly snapped back to reality and quickly pushed Jason away with force.
Jason licked his lips with satisfaction, his gaze deep and aggressive as he stared at me, like looking at prey he was determined to catch.
My heart pounded. I hurriedly turned my head away and stammered, "I'm leaving! Contact me when the car is fixed!"
My cheeks were burning, and even my ears felt hot.
I didn't dare look at Jason's face again. I turned and ran away quickly.
Fortunately, Jason just stood there and didn't chase after me.
My mind was in chaos, completely unable to think about why Jason suddenly kissed me.
I just wanted to get out of here quickly.
The moment I stepped out of the villa door, I was blocked by an old lady.
The old lady had silver hair and a kind face.
She grabbed my hand and asked curiously and warmly, "Are you my grandson's girlfriend? You're so pretty! Where do you live? How many people are in your family?"
I'd heard Jason talk to his grandmother on the phone before and knew they were very close.
Before I could figure out how to answer, the old lady had already pulled me back into the villa.
She scolded Jason, "You brat! You got a girlfriend and didn't say anything, making me worry so much!"
I frantically made eye signals at Jason, indicating he should quickly deny it.
Jason put his hands in his pockets, shrugged, and said nothing.
I was getting anxious. As soon as the old lady was distracted giving Jason instructions to prepare tea and snacks, I had to leave quickly!
