Chapter 152
After dinner, Thomas pulled Tamsin away to leave.
Tamsin didn't want to go at first, but who knows what Thomas said to her—in the end, they both got in the car together.
Jessica went back to her room to review what she'd learned in class that afternoon.
I didn't have anything else to do at the moment, so I sat on the couch scrolling through my phone.
Ever since I stopped working, my life had become incredibly relaxing.
Apart from the household chores I was already used to, I had tons and tons of free time to myself.
This feeling was really addictive, and it was something I'd never experienced before.
Short videos are really easy to get hooked on, especially after I stumbled upon what looked like a really exciting mini-drama.
I was instantly interested.
After clicking into the mini-drama, my attention was completely glued to my phone. I didn't even notice when Jason came back from taking out the trash, poured himself some water, and sat down next to me.
Not until Jason suddenly said, "Is it really that good? You look like you're about to get sucked into the screen."
I looked up at him and saw the disdain for mini-dramas in his eyes.
But I raised my eyebrows.
A whole day and night had passed, and he was finally willing to talk to me?
"It's really good! Watch it with me!"
But I didn't bring that up. Instead, I moved my phone closer to Jason.
"I'm not watching. That stuff is just a waste of time."
Jason refused with his lips pressed tight, but his body didn't move from where he sat.
I smiled and reached out to pull his arm, leaning closer to him.
"Come on, watch with me! Mini-dramas are meant for entertainment and relaxation!"
Jason didn't say anything more and lowered his head to watch with me.
My mood improved quite a bit, and my eyes returned to the phone.
In the short video, the male lead was carrying the female lead in a princess carry—the scene was especially romantic and handsome.
I watched with sparkling eyes and couldn't help exclaiming, "Oh my god! That's so hot!"
Jason scoffed, "Really that hot?"
"Look at his face, those veiny hands, that body, those long legs!"
I counted them off one by one. "What's not hot about it?"
Jason raised his eyebrows and stood up. "Fine, you keep watching. I'm going upstairs to shower."
He paused, then added, "I'll be waiting for you."
I blinked and looked up from the mini-drama.
I only saw Jason's back as he left and went upstairs.
With his height and long legs, even a simple action like going upstairs made him look incredibly charming.
My gaze uncontrollably landed on Jason, and I belatedly realized something.
All those qualities I'd just mentioned—Jason not only had them all, but he was even better than the male lead in the mini-drama!
Especially his strong waist.
This mini-drama had stirred something in me, and now staring at Jason's back, I couldn't help thinking about some things that made my face flush and heart race.
Just then, as if sensing something, Jason turned around.
He looked at me with a half-smile, "What's the point of just looking? Come upstairs later, and I'll let you touch."
My face instantly burned hot, and I quickly looked down to avoid Jason's gaze. "Just go shower already!"
"Got it."
Jason's figure completely disappeared at the top of the stairs. Only then did I breathe a sigh of relief.
I patted my face with my hand, silently complaining to myself.
I was so unstable—fantasizing about Jason in my mind was one thing, but getting caught by him!
He was still showering. If I went up now, it would look like I was really eager. So I decided to lie on the couch and watch a bit more.
And once I started watching, I got completely absorbed.
I completely forgot that Jason was waiting for me.
Until Jason came downstairs, scooped me up from the couch without a word, and threw me over his shoulder.
I cried out, "Jason, put me down!"
"Not happening. I waited for you upstairs until the flowers wilted, and you're still down here grinning like an idiot?"
Jason slapped my butt, his tone gritting through his teeth, "Is it really that good? Better than me?"
I was afraid of falling, so I held onto him tightly.
Jason's upper body was bare, his burning skin under my palms making me think of certain things.
Jason carried me back to the bedroom like this.
He took away my phone.
He leaned over me, and before kissing me, looked deeply into my eyes and said, "This is our time now. You can only look at me."
While secretly complaining about how domineering Jason was, I also sank into a sea of tenderness.
No one mentioned the previous cold war.
We tacitly let that matter pass.
A night of passion.
That night I nestled in Jason's arms and slept very soundly.
The next afternoon, I received a message from Jason: [Company meeting today, don't wait for me for dinner.]
I was thinking I'd just make less food, but Jason didn't come home—instead, Lily showed up.
Lily ate dinner at my place, then pulled me to sit on the couch with a worried expression.
"What's wrong? Looking at your face, someone who didn't know would think the world was ending."
I teased her with a smile.
Lily propped her chin in her hands and let out a long sigh, "I think this is scarier than the end of the world!"
I got interested. "Does it have to do with Ryan?"
Lily glanced at me. "You figured that out right away."
"Come on, stop hesitating. Tell me what happened?"
"Remember how my novel's IP was sold and it's being filmed now?"
I nodded. "Yeah, I remember you've been busy going to the set lately to give readers a satisfying IP adaptation."
Lily's expression grew even more pained, "But I never expected Ryan to show up! Now he's the one handling things with me! He never came to work at his own family's company before—why is he suddenly showing up now!"
I handed her an orange, "I think when someone suddenly does something they don't normally do, they definitely have some kind of plan."
What Ryan was after seemed pretty obvious to me.
Lily's expression froze for a moment, then she shook her head hard. "No, no, work is work, and personal life is personal life. You can't mix them together."
"But he really does like you, and you're not completely indifferent to him either. Why don't you two just get together?"
I encouraged her.
"No way."
Lily refused very directly.
She had a guarded expression, "You know, I'm a bit wary of rich men."
"You can't let one jerk you met before make you reject everyone who comes after."
I felt sorry for Lily.
It was all Chris the jerk's fault—now Lily was afraid to open her heart when it came to relationships.
But this was Lily's private matter.
As a friend, what I could do more than anything was listen, not force Lily to make a decision.
Lily took a bite of the orange, scrunched up her neck at the sourness, and just tossed it all on the table.
"And even putting that aside, a wealthy family like Ryan's definitely has high standards for their future daughter-in-law. At the very least, they'd want someone from a similar background, right? My family doesn't have that kind of status. I'm just an ordinary person. Why should I be with him? I can't even accept it myself."
