Chapter 130
The next day, I had just arrived at the company and hadn't even sorted out today's work yet when Terry's secretary walked up to me.
"Ms. Wilson, you've been let go. You can go to HR now to process your departure. Your severance pay will be issued with this month's salary."
I froze on the spot, looking at the secretary in disbelief.
After a moment, I opened my mouth and asked softly in confusion, "Can I know the reason?"
I didn't think I had made any mistakes at work, but the dismissal came so suddenly that I found it hard to understand.
Terry's secretary looked at me deeply, shook her head, "Actually, I don't know the reason either. It was a direct order from Mr. Terry Ethan."
Seeing my silence, the secretary continued, "But honestly, I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. The company's severance package is quite generous."
That may be true, but I still felt vaguely uneasy.
Looking up at the secretary, I asked tentatively, "Can I see Mr. Ethan?"
"Mr. Ethan has something to attend to today and isn't at the company, but he specifically instructed that you must complete your departure procedures today..."
Terry's secretary didn't finish her sentence, but I already understood what she meant.
I let out a slow sigh, "Okay, I understand."
I was planning to leave anyway; this just moved up the timeline.
The secretary nodded at me gratefully and quickly turned to leave.
I sat at my desk for a while longer before going to HR to process my departure.
The moment I signed my name, I couldn't help feeling a bit emotional.
No matter what, I had worked with Brian for so long, and he had helped me a lot.
Leaving so suddenly - it would be a lie to say I wasn't affected.
After signing, I went back to my desk to pack up my things when a colleague stopped me, "Ms. Wilson, Mr. Ethan wants to see you in his office."
I was startled, then remembered that it was Terry who fired me, and I didn't know if Brian was aware of it.
I knocked on Brian's office door.
"Come in," Brian's somewhat tired voice came from inside.
I pushed the door open and saw Brian looking at me with a complicated expression.
After a moment, Brian said softly, "About what happened before, I'm sorry. I didn't expect it would turn out like this."
I shook my head, "This isn't your fault, it's all Mia's doing. You were drugged before; there should be drug residue in your body. Did you keep any evidence? Can we teach Mia a lesson, preferably send her to jail?"
I really hated Mia.
Since coming to Seaside City, she had caused me nothing but trouble!
Brian looked at me deeply and sighed, "It's no use. She's already fled abroad, we can't bring her back now."
I couldn't help but frown, feeling somewhat dissatisfied.
But I didn't say anything in the end.
Brian suddenly asked, "I heard you went to HR just now. What was it about?"
As expected, Brian didn't know about my dismissal.
"Yeah, I went to sign a contract."
I wanted to gloss over it vaguely, but Brian asked with furrowed brows, "A contract? What contract? I don't remember arranging any such work for you recently."
The tension in his eyes was obvious.
I sighed inwardly and told him honestly, "Mr. Terry fired me. I just went to sign the termination agreement."
"What?" Brian's voice immediately rose, his eyes turned red as he stared at me, "He told you to sign, and you just signed it?"
I nodded, "Mr. Terry wanted me to leave. I didn't have the right to refuse."
"What was the reason?" Brian irritably lit a cigarette and took a deep drag.
"There was no reason. Mr. Terry wasn't at the company, his secretary told me."
I shook my head.
I was also puzzled about Terry suddenly firing me.
But since it had come to this, I didn't want to dwell too much on such an unimportant matter.
"He fired you for no reason, and you agreed?"
Brian seemed angrily amused by my words. Cigarette ash fell on the documents, but he paid no attention.
"Sue, you clearly promised me, why..."
"Because it was Mr. Terry's order. Rather than fight it, I'd rather take the severance and leave."
Meeting Brian's increasingly dim gaze, I continued, "I know what you're thinking, but we both know in our hearts. Your best choice is Elizabeth. Thank you for taking care of me during this time, Mr. Ethan. Let's just leave it at that and part on good terms."
I paused and added, "Although I won't be here for your engagement to Miss Perez, I wish you both a happy engagement."
With that, without giving Brian a chance to speak again, I turned and left the office.
Not long after I came out, Brian also emerged from his office with a dark expression.
He didn't look our way, grabbed his coat, and strode toward the elevator.
All the colleagues were frightened by Brian's fierce expression.
Everyone exchanged glances, then gathered around me in unison, asking in low voices.
"Ms. Wilson, what's wrong with Mr. Ethan today? He looks so angry. Did you argue with Mr. Ethan in the office just now?"
I shrugged and distributed the files into their hands.
"I'm leaving the company today. I won't be coming in from tomorrow. These are the unfinished tasks I have. Let me brief you on the work progress."
As soon as I said this, the surroundings fell into dead silence.
Colleagues looked at each other in bewilderment, and one of them couldn't help but speak up.
"This is so sudden!"
Another person asked, "Ms. Wilson, did you resign on your own?"
I shook my head, "The company fired me."
This left everyone even more confused.
The colleague who spoke earlier even discussed in a low voice, "This doesn't make sense... I remember the company valued you highly before, and finance gave you two raises in a short time! How could they suddenly fire you?"
Honestly, I didn't know either.
I came to work as usual today, only to be suddenly notified of my dismissal.
Another person seemed to suddenly think of something and asked me carefully, "Ms. Wilson, did you break up with Mr. Cooper?"
I shook my head, "We were never together, so how could we break up?"
"Then it makes even less sense..."
Seeing they were about to continue their discussion, I helplessly interrupted.
"Let's stop talking about this. The termination contract has been signed. The workload is heavy, and I need to brief you all clearly today."
Although the colleagues still wanted to gossip, they had to shut up for now.
By the time all the work was handed over, a long time had passed.
I packed up my personal belongings from my desk and glanced at Brian's office.
He hadn't come back yet, but I should leave.
After working here for so long, the cardboard box used to pack work supplies was quite heavy.
I smiled and said goodbye to everyone, "If you have any questions or don't understand something about work in the future, you can call me."
