Chapter 104
"Sue, come to bed and let's sleep together."
Jason scooted over, making plenty of room.
He lay on his side, propping his head up with one hand, wearing only a bath towel, shamelessly trying to seduce me.
I walked to the bedside with a blank expression.
Under Jason's increasingly expectant gaze, I slowly reached out my hand.
"Get out of my room! Who said you could lie on my bed?"
I grabbed a pillow and threw it hard at Jason.
Jason rolled around awkwardly on the bed, wrapping himself tightly in the blanket.
"Sue, you're trying to murder your husband!"
I sneered, "When I actually kill you with a pillow, then I'll feel sorry!"
Jason covered his head, looking at me pitifully.
"Stop hitting me, stop... it hurts..."
Although I knew the pillow couldn't really hurt, facing Jason's pitiful eyes, my movements slowed down a bit.
Jason seized the opportunity and tried to hug me.
Quick as a flash, I smacked the pillow onto him again. "Get lost!"
Jason caught the pillow and held it in his arms.
With a helpless expression, he said, "Alright, looks like you've missed a great chance to share a bed with a handsome guy."
My mouth twitched. "Don't need it, thanks."
Jason left my bedroom.
I wanted to kick him out completely, but Jason went into Jessica's room instead.
Whatever, it was getting late.
I closed the door and, after thinking about it, locked it from the inside.
After Jason's disruption, the bad mood caused by Cora and Luke had completely disappeared.
Lying in bed, I fell into a deep sleep before long.
The next day.
I went to the kitchen to cook as usual. Hearing footsteps behind me, I turned to look and was instantly shocked!
"Jason!" My voice trembled uncontrollably. "Why are you still not dressed?! How long are you going to keep wearing my bath towel?!"
Jason was bare-chested, with the towel around his waist even looser than yesterday. It looked as if he moved even slightly, the towel would fall right off.
I quickly looked away, not daring to look anymore.
Jason didn't seem to think there was any problem. Instead, he leaned against the doorframe with his arms crossed, saying lazily, "Can't help it. There are no clothes here for me to change into, so I have to make do with this for now."
He paused, then added, "How about I bring some clothes over next time?"
"No," I refused without hesitation.
Jason didn't get angry at the rejection. Instead, he chuckled softly.
Just then, someone knocked on the door. Jason turned to answer it and get something.
I ignored him and continued cooking.
When I brought breakfast to the table, Jason emerged from the bathroom in a sharp suit.
He looked at me, running his fingers through his hair narcissistically. "How about it? Has my handsomeness completely captivated you?"
"Narcissist," I commented.
"This is the secret of how a confident man successfully wins over his wife."
I didn't bother arguing with him and ate quietly.
Suddenly, the phone rang. It was Luke calling.
I casually put it on speaker and set it aside, focusing on my meal.
"What is it?"
"Sue, make some food and bring it over for Mom. The hospital food is expensive and tastes terrible. Mom's not feeling well right now, and the doctor specifically said she needs to eat light meals. You don't need to make anything fancy, just cook some porridge and prepare two or three simple dishes. Oh, and get some stomach-friendly fruit for after the meal," Luke ordered matter-of-factly.
My eating paused for a moment. I softly agreed, "I got it."
I got up to find food containers in the kitchen.
I had made porridge this morning, so I packed the leftovers into a thermal container, then opened the fridge and took out some vegetables.
After washing them, I started chopping, but my mood was complicated.
"If you don't want to deal with it, then don't. They have no right to demand anything from you."
Jason's voice suddenly came from beside me. I snapped back to reality and saw that he had somehow come over to clear the dishes and was now standing next to me, washing them.
Looking down at the half-chopped vegetables, my lips moved.
In the end, I couldn't hold back. A bitter smile appeared on my lips as I shook my head helplessly at Jason.
"What if I told you I still have expectations of her? Even though I know she doesn't love me, I still secretly hope. If I just give a little more, maybe she'll notice me? At least maybe she won't hate me so much."
By the end, my voice had become hoarse.
Even though I'd been working for years, even though I'd become a mother myself, this sense of grievance and unwillingness planted in childhood still uncontrollably held onto hope.
Jason looked at me with sympathy.
He dried his hands and gently brushed my hair, saying, "It's okay, I understand. Whatever you want to do, I'll fully support you. Don't feel any pressure."
Hearing his words, my heavy mood lightened considerably.
I knew very clearly in my heart that Cora didn't love me.
But I couldn't help thinking that if I could just do a little more, maybe I could get something in return?
Looking at the man in front of me who was gazing at me so gently, my lips moved, and I finally couldn't resist the urge to confide.
"Jason, you know what? I really don't understand why she hates me so much. Ever since I was little, no matter what I did, I could never get any praise from her. It's like I'm not her daughter, but her enemy."
I was in so much pain.
I didn't understand when I was young. Now that I have Jessica, I want to give her all the best things in the world.
Jason reached out and hugged me, saying seriously, "It's okay. She doesn't love you, but you still have Jessica and me. We're a family."
I pressed my hands against Jason's chest and pushed him away forcefully, creating distance between us.
"Everything else is fine, but that last part is a bit too confident."
After venting a bit, my mood improved considerably.
After finishing the breakfast and packing everything into the thermal container, I finally turned my attention to Jason. "Aren't you leaving yet?"
"Waiting for you," Jason answered.
I frowned slightly. "If I remember correctly, we don't work at the same company."
"I'll take you to the hospital." As Jason spoke, he smoothly took the food container from my hands.
Seeing me standing still, he explained, "I'm worried you'll get bullied if you go alone."
