Chapter 152 Zachary, it hurts; I'm in so much pain!
Victoria was hurt by him.
But she didn't want to cry out. She kept her eyes open, staring at the ceiling above the sofa, where the crystal chandelier shone brightly.
She remembered it was at the best time they had, ordered by Zachary from Italy.
She loved it!
On those nights they made love, she could see the shimmering light of the crystal chandelier just by looking up; luxurious and dazzling, but now it seemed cold and glaring.
Even though they were embracing, even though they were being intimate, why was her body cold? Why did their contact not bring her any pleasure, only disgust?
Victoria's frail body trembled.
When she couldn't bear it any longer, she lost her composure and cried out in pain, "Zachary, it hurts."
Zachary stopped. His face was buried in her chest, his hand still on her slender waist; their clothes were messy, their breaths hurried as if it wasn't kissing or caressing before, but a war.
He held her as they both panted.
After a while, he gently touched her lips and, in a low, hoarse voice, said, "Victoria, if it hurts, just cry out like you did now. Please don't ignore me, don't refuse to talk to me! Please tell me what you want me to do, whatever you say, I can do it for you! Let me support Whitney, appeal for your brother; I can do it all!"
Victoria's eyes welled up with tears.
For a while, she looked down, quietly watching her proud husband, who was confessing in such a rare, humble manner.
In the past, he never had time to listen to her! She said she was pregnant; he told her that they could talk about it later; she said the "Meditation" film was hers, not Yara's; he told her not to make a fuss; she begged him not to leave, he said, "What else can you do besides begging me, Victoria?"
Now, she didn't want to beg him anymore, but he was affectionate.
Victoria reached out, her fingers caressing his handsome face. Zachary looked up at her, their eyes meeting, devoid of the sweetness or resentment from before, only sadness. Zachary took her hand in his.
He listened to her absent-minded voice as she said, "Zachary, do you feel pain? I'm in pain, too."
She was finally willing to speak.
Zachary held her hand and softly said, "Tomorrow, Emily has a medical check-up at the hospital. Shall we go together? Emily is still young; she likes it when you hold her!"
Victoria didn't say anything, but Zachary knew she agreed.
The next morning, Zachary set off with his wife and daughter.
He didn't ask the driver to take them. Instead, he drove out of the garage in a black Land Rover, leaning against the car smoking.
The thin smoke rose in the early autumn morning and quickly dissipated.
Victoria came out with the maid, the maid holding Emily , and Victoria following behind. She wore a teddy bear coat, thick and warm, the warm coffee color setting off her snow-white skin.
Despite being slender, she looked particularly petite, showing no signs of having had a child.
Zachary looked deeply moved. He extinguished his cigarette, opened the back door for the maid to get in, then lightly held Victoria's arm as she was about to get in, whispering, "Sit next to me."
After saying that, he closed the back door and opened the front passenger door. Victoria hesitated for a few seconds before getting in.
Zachary clearly wanted to be close to her, to make her talk, but Victoria remained cold towards him.
The maid in the back seat was uneasy, afraid that Victoria's coldness might push Zachary away.
Men like Zachary were very attractive to women.
Victoria, however, didn't care.
She had long been disillusioned with Zachary and their marriage; she only hoped he would persist no longer and give up, then they could each find their peace!
Half an hour later, the black Land Rover slowly pulled into Sackler General Hospital.
As they got out of the car, Victoria was surprised to see familiar faces.
Yara's parents. They weren't alone; there was a girl a little younger than Yara with them, looking very pure with clear, bright eyes; in fact, she was much prettier than Yara.
The girl stared straight at Zachary. Victoria guessed that Alison had arranged this for Zachary. No wonder they had returned to Redwater.
Victoria paid no attention. She smiled faintly and walked straight past them towards the outpatient building, the maid following closely behind her.
Zachary also ignored the group of people as if he had never met them before. He closed the car door and was about to leave.
Melissa softly spoke, "Zachary, is that Victoria?" Melissa had seen photos of Victoria; she was beautiful and dignified.
Seeing her in person today was quite shocking. She used to think Victoria was the same age as Zachary, but the girl she just saw looked young and thin, with a fair complexion, showing no signs of having had a child. Melissa felt a bit strange.
Hearing this, Zachary just nodded, his attitude indifferent.
Melissa looked at his back, gently biting her lip. She didn't know what was wrong with her or why she felt unhappy after seeing Victoria. She didn't know that Alison knew exactly—Melissa had fallen for Zachary!
Alison wasn't surprised; a man like Zachary would make any woman captivated. She cursed her for not being worthy of him yet hoped Melissa would bring her wealth and glory.
On the other side, Zachary caught up with Victoria.
In the elevator, he spoke softly, "That's Yara's cousin. I've only met her a few times, but nothing more!"
Victoria looked down at Emily and said softly, "You don't need to explain."
Even so, she was momentarily absent-minded.
She remembered that night when Zachary came back drunk, holding her and telling her that Claire's gaze reminded him of her in the past.
She felt that Melissa gave Zachary the same feeling.
If he couldn't find satisfaction with her, it was normal for him to seek comfort from other women. She remained indifferent, and Zachary didn't explain further.
In the Neonatology Department, the doctor examined Emily , and the results were very good.
Emily 's physical signs were better than other children of the same age, developing exceptionally well.
Zachary was filled with tenderness.
He gently touched Emily 's face, warm and soft, just like her mother.
As they were about to leave after the examination, the doctor stopped Zachary, "Mr.Zachary, I have something I'd like to talk to you privately; it's not important."
Zachary understood her look and turned to Victoria, saying, "You hold the child in the car and turn on the heater."
The maid held Emily , reassuring him.
After they left, the specialist doctor in the Neonatology Department closed the door.
After much deliberation, she softly said, "Mr.Zachary, the child is fine, but I noticed that Mrs.Victoria doesn't seem well. She appears to have postpartum depression."
Zachary was stunned: postpartum depression?
The doctor thought for a moment and reminded him, "Try to spend more time with her and do things that make her happy; it's beneficial for the physical and mental health of the mother."
Zachary nodded and walked out of the consultation room.
Instead of going downstairs immediately, he stood in the smoking area at the end of the corridor and smoked two cigarettes.
