Chapter 142 She had a dream, dreaming that she reconciled with Zachary
After Zachary finished his grandmother's funeral, his life returned to normal. He started coming home more often.
They still didn't have much interaction, rarely talking during meals, sleeping with a gap of half a meter between them, and sometimes he even slept in the guest room.
Only on occasional nights, he would embrace her from behind and caress her swollen belly, feeling the presence of the child.
When Victoria woke up, she would remain silent and let him touch the baby.
It seemed that only the child was left between them. Nothing else remained.
She forgot that she had once loved him. He forgot that he had wanted to make it up to her. He even forgot that he had said, "Victoria, I want a daughter.
When I come home from work, I want a little girl to run to me and call me daddy." They forgot the good times they had shared and only remembered the hurt they had caused each other.
They could never go back. Neither of them could bring themselves to take the initiative to get closer, not even for a hug or a soft word.
A month after his grandmother's passing, when Victoria was eight months pregnant, she rarely went out, and Lauren helped manage a few shops for her.
In the evening, she received a call from Secretary Thomas. Secretary Thomas spoke respectfully, "Zachary is going on a business trip. Please help him pack a few sets of clothes and his passport."
'A passport? Zachary was going abroad?'
Victoria guessed that something had happened with Yara, and this trip was a last-minute decision.
She didn't inquire further and personally packed a few sets of clothes for Zachary, along with his passport.
Half an hour later, Secretary Thomas came to collect Zachary's luggage.
When she took the passport from Victoria, she couldn't help but say, "Yara's last organ transplant is experiencing rejection. She may not last much longer!
Whether Zachary goes or not doesn't make much difference! Victoria, I can see that you have feelings for Zachary.
There's no need to distance yourselves from each other because of this person.
Besides, you'll have a lovely child soon!"
Upon hearing this, Victoria didn't argue. She simply smiled faintly.
Four years of marriage had made her know well enough to judge right from wrong.
Everyone else thought that Victoria was more important to Zachary, and she used to believe that too.
But that slap from Zachary that night woke her up. It turned out that Zachary had been keeping a secret. It turned out that Yara playing the violin reminded him of his first love, the one he had loved the most.
It was absurd, but she didn't want to explain anymore because he didn't believe her. Seeing Victoria's indifferent expression, Secretary Thomas could only sigh and leave.
Zachary was only gone for a week. When he returned from his trip, they continued to be distant from each other.
He didn't say a word of retention, and Victoria didn't mention changing her mind. Their marital relationship was cold, and Lauren felt incredibly guilty.
If it weren't for her, Victoria would never have returned to Zachary. Victoria consistently claimed she was fine, yet Lauren could discern the sorrow etched on her countenance, while Mason's situation grew increasingly intricate. In the cafe, Victoria pushed a check across the table. She said lightly, "This 4 million is the dividend for the past six months. It should be even better next year. The shop in Joyvale City is running better than Redwater."
"Victoria!" Lauren held her hand and whispered, "I'm sorry!"
Victoria was taken aback for a moment, and then she understood what Lauren meant.
She lowered her head and gently caressed her swollen belly. She smiled, "Did you hear the news from outside? Lauren, you don't have to feel guilty. I heard from Zachary that I will have custody of this child.and I'll have a child to keep me company in the future! I won't be lonely."
She spoke lightly, but Lauren knew that Victoria had given up a chance for happiness for her. In the future, with a child in tow, even if she was young and beautiful, and her career was successful, it would be difficult for her to find the right person.
Lauren's eyes were filled with tears. "I will take good care of the child!" Victoria smiled faintly. Lauren sat for a while and then left. There was always a need for someone to stay in the shop.
After she left, Victoria sat alone by the French window. The setting sun shone through the glass, casting a gentle orange glow on her face, adding a touch of tenderness.
At that moment, Emily moved lightly in her womb. She seemed very happy. Victoria placed her palm on her swollen belly, feeling the presence of the child.
Her heart was filled with tenderness. She imagined what Emily would be like and just the thought of it made her smile. Emily was born in early winter.
Victoria went to the mall and bought many little clothes for Emily , all in pink and each one adorable.
As she passed by the men's section downstairs, a saleswoman approached her. The saleswoman enthusiastically introduced, "Madam, our brand is having a promotion today, with 12% off everything. You should know that we don't usually offer discounts, and it's only for this anniversary celebration."
Victoria was reminded of the time Zachary had asked her to buy two shirts for him, but she had refused. After a moment of contemplation, she walked into the store.
She thought about Zachary's age and bought him two shirts, along with a tie. In the past, she used to do these things regularly and took care of Zachary's daily life.
But now, it all felt unfamiliar. Perhaps it was because they were about to part ways. When she returned to the villa, Zachary had not come back yet.
The maid helped her bring the things upstairs, and when she saw the men's shirt, she felt relieved. "Madam, dinner won't be ready for another half an hour. You should rest for a while. I'll inform you," the maid said. Victoria was indeed tired. She nodded lightly, leaned back on the sofa, and closed her eyes to rest.
The maid considerately covered her with a blanket and quietly went downstairs. Victoria fell asleep and had a dream. She dreamed that Emily was born, and she was so adorable.
When Emily grew to a few years old, she and Zachary were walking hand in hand under the shady plane trees, with Emily asking questions incessantly.
Later, Zachary squatted down and picked up the lovely Emily . Emily lay on his shoulder and called Zachary ‘dad’ in a soft voice. Victoria woke up from her dream.
She supported her prominent belly and sat up slowly, staring blankly at the dark night outside the French window. In her dream, she vividly recalled Emily embracing Zachary, addressing him as "dad."
Her eyes were slightly moist.
At the door, the maid entered and said that she had just received the call from the study.
When she answered, it was a foreigner speaking, and she couldn't understand, so she hung up.
She wanted to tell Victoria, but suddenly there was a muffled thunder in the sky. The maid forgot what she wanted to say. She rushed to the French window, closed it tightly, and muttered, "It's already autumn, and there's thunder. It must be some scoundrel making promises! Madam, I hope you weren't startled!"
Victoria shook her head gently and asked in a hoarse voice, "Has Mr. Sackler returned?" The maid replied, "Not yet! Madam, please have your meal first. Your baby must be hungry."
Victoria smiled faintly.
The maid, being considerate, came over to support her and said, "The baby will be born in another month, but you haven't gained much weight. Unlike my daughter-in-law, who has gained a whole 30 pounds." Victoria replied with a light smile, "Having a good appetite is a blessing."
The maid helped her downstairs and continued chatting, "I'll go back tomorrow to take care of her, and I'll come back in a month, just in time for your delivery. I'll bring some nutritional supplements from our place. After you take them, you'll definitely have more breast milk, and I guarantee Emily will become chubby and healthy after drinking it."
Victoria gently caressed her small belly gently.
