Chapter 328: Emerging to the Surface
In the hospital room.
Cecilia quietly watched as the nurse covered Manuel with a white sheet.
Manuel had already made a will, stating that the Robinson Group and the Robinson family's assets all belonged to Tommy and Jane. Even if Timothy came, he wouldn't get any of the Robinson family's property.
Cecilia sneered inwardly.
Sam rushed to the hospital with his shirt buttons done up wrong, but he had no time to fix them. He'd been trying to reach Timothy the whole way, but couldn't get through.
By the time he got to the hospital, Timothy finally picked up.
"Mr. Timothy Robinson, Mr. Manuel Robinson just arrived in Sylvanor today. Tonight at home, he fell down the stairs. They rushed him to the hospital but couldn't save him. He's gone."
Timothy's expression changed when he heard the news. "Send me the address. Are we sure it was an accident? Get the bodyguards to secure the scene first."
Sam nodded in agreement.
After hanging up, Sam sent Timothy the address.
Timothy was currently in the country, while Sylvanor was another country. He called Joe and told him to fly to Sylvanor immediately.
Elizabeth also heard Timothy's instructions to Joe. Manuel was dead?
This was pretty sudden.
Timothy was still under travel restrictions and couldn't leave the country.
Elizabeth frowned. "Mr. Robinson, let me go to Sylvanor with Joe."
Timothy nodded and said hoarsely, "Elizabeth, thank you for this."
Elizabeth gently squeezed Timothy's hand, then let go and hurried off to pack.
Elizabeth and Joe flew from Border Ridge City to Sylvanor, then rushed to the hospital. By the time they arrived, it was past 3 AM.
When Cecilia saw it was Elizabeth and Joe, she frowned and asked in a hoarse voice, "Where's Timothy? His father is gone, and he's not coming?"
Joe said respectfully, "The boss is currently under travel restrictions and can't leave the country."
Cecilia was thrilled inside, but her face showed only grief.
Elizabeth and Joe went into the hospital room to see Manuel's body.
After they came out, Elizabeth stayed at the hospital while Joe had Sam take him to check out the scene. He also sent people to question the doctors and nurses who had treated Manuel.
When Cecilia heard Joe was investigating, she wasn't worried at all. Cecilia never left traces when she did things.
Elizabeth and Cecilia sat quietly on chairs outside the hospital room, each lost in their own thoughts.
There was no communication between them, and the atmosphere was particularly silent.
Timothy had already arranged a plane to transport Manuel's body back to Border Ridge City. Now they were just waiting for all the paperwork to be processed.
Cecilia went back into the room to stay with Manuel.
She stood by the bed, looking coldly at Manuel's body.
Cecilia reached out and pulled back the white sheet, staring at his bloodless face.
When she married Manuel years ago, she had gotten pregnant once, but she deliberately had an abortion.
She did it to gain Manuel's trust and show she wouldn't have children to compete with Annie and Timothy for anything.
Who knew Cecilia would never get pregnant again after that.
Looking at Manuel's face, Cecilia had actually been hiding another important matter all along.
Back when Annie came home to stay for a few days, Cecilia noticed that Annie might be pregnant.
But Annie had health problems, and doctors had said she'd have trouble getting pregnant. Plus her periods were irregular anyway, which meant she probably didn't know she was pregnant.
Cecilia couldn't be bothered to remind Annie to get checked out.
However, during those few days Annie was staying at home, her condition suddenly got worse and her heart stopped beating. Though they brought her back, it was an emergency situation.
Timothy had no choice but to perform an experimental surgery on Annie that hadn't been tested yet.
He didn't know Annie was pregnant. He only realized something was wrong after he'd started the operation.
Annie died on the operating table.
Manuel was furious about losing Annie. He didn't let Jake see Annie one last time and had her cremated immediately.
Cecilia secretly sent Jake a text from an unknown number, deliberately saying that Timothy had insisted on doing that experimental surgery, which led to Annie's death, and that Manuel quickly cremated the body to prevent Jake from finding out the truth.
Cecilia pulled the white sheet back over.
May Manuel rest in peace.
Manuel's body was transported back to Border Ridge City.
Joe stayed in Sylvanor to investigate Manuel's accident.
On the day of the memorial service, the atmosphere was solemn and dignified, with friends and relatives coming to pay their respects.
Timothy stood at the front with Elizabeth by his side. The relatives and friends glanced at Elizabeth, but no one dared say anything inappropriate on this occasion.
Cecilia stood nearby with tears in her eyes, looking grief-stricken.
Jane and Tommy stood on either side of Cecilia. This was Tommy and Jane's first time at such a serious event, so they didn't dare cry or make a fuss.
After the memorial service ended, friends and relatives began to leave one by one.
As Cecilia was being helped away by relatives, Jane looked timidly at Timothy, then turned to glare angrily at Elizabeth.
"Bad woman! If it weren't for you, my mom wouldn't have left us." Jane accused loudly, her voice full of hurt and anger.
Hearing Jane's words, the relatives who were about to leave all stopped in their tracks.
Everyone's eyes fell on Elizabeth and Timothy.
Timothy's expression instantly turned cold as he looked at Jane.
Jane was scared and wanted to cry. Her small body trembled slightly, tears welling up in her eyes.
Seeing this, Cecilia quickly picked up Jane and held her tight, saying urgently, "Ms. Penrose, I'm sorry. She's just a child and doesn't know better. Please don't take it to heart."
Elizabeth glanced at Cecilia, then looked at Timothy and gently patted his hand. "Today's not the right occasion to get angry."
Timothy nodded slightly, though the coldness in his eyes hadn't completely faded.
Cecilia held Jane, comforting her in a low voice, then quickly left the memorial service.
The relatives watched this scene, each with their own thoughts, but no one said much and they all left.
The Robinson family was now Timothy's to run, so they had no reason to say anything.
However, two days later, when they learned that Manuel hadn't left any inheritance to Timothy, everyone's expressions were quite a sight to see.
Apart from giving Cecilia some money and property, the Robinson family's remaining assets were all left to Tommy and Jane.
